What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

I wonder if the Archbishop will need to issue a statement about when the real Christening happened?

oops, this Archbishop ?

He has praised Meghan, saying: 'She's a person of profound humanity and deep concern for people, seeking to carry out her role with every ounce of her being – and I think she's a remarkable person.'

In 2021 he expressed sympathy for Harry, telling the Financial Times that being in the Royal Family was 'life without parole' and the public expected them to be 'superhuman'.

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/03/2023 13:09

Having an archbishop christen her too - absolutely having their cake and eating it!

The article is wrong about this. There are no archbishops in the US Episcopal Church. He is a bishop, and it's not that unusual for bishops to perform baptisms. Even the primate is not an archbishop, but the Presiding Bishop.

Eyerollcentral · 08/03/2023 13:09

Why did they christen her now? Is this child not nearly two? I know a lot of people especially in non-catholic churches who also practise infant baptism tend not to necessarily rush to get a baby baptised, but aren’t most of the royal children done pretty young about six months ish? In my mind all the others seemed pretty young in any pics I remember seeing. At the end of the day it’s sad as they have used their child yet again to try and snatch positive attention and frankly made a mockery out of the sacrament of baptism. Neither of them attend church do they? I am pretty sure Harry said he wasn’t religious in his book and Meghan I think was unbaptised until before her wedding. It’s just more attention seeking and then broadcasting WE’LL call her princess if we want. It’s pretty pathetic.

Inkpotlover · 08/03/2023 13:10

That aside, imagine coming onto a thread on a parenting forum to be nasty and judgy about a baby.

No one is being nasty and judgy about the baby. Posters are commenting on them using the Princess title when they've spent the last two years trashing the Royal family and how it operates. It's baffling they'd willingly endorse her as being part an institution they say has driven at least one of them to the brink of suicide.

Not to mention all the childish, sneery comments about people you don't know.

So comparing posters you don't know to Jeremy Kyle audience members isn't being childish and sneery? Riiiiighhht...

Viviennemary · 08/03/2023 13:10

Princess Lilibet. Cringe.

toomuchlaundry · 08/03/2023 13:10

Why did they complain that their children wouldn't have titles?

Princess Lilibet. Fact.

My irony meter just exploded.

SpookyBlackCat · 08/03/2023 13:12

I watched a tiny bit of Real Housewives of New York and one of the cast made a HUGE deal over her being a countess. I’m not surprised H&M are using the Princess title. They are spectacularly entitled.

Eyerollcentral · 08/03/2023 13:13

JenniferBarkley · 08/03/2023 13:10

Princess Lilibet. Fact.

Come on, remove the personalities and politics, lilibet is a ludicrous name for a child and Princess Lilibet, sorry, is mega cringe.

Ignorance? Wilful ignorance? Performative bafflement for the benefit of Oprah? Impatience to get at the 'good stuff' of being royal? I honestly don't know.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/03/2023 13:14

German isn’t an insult and you are questioning the citizenship of anyone with a near ancestor who isn’t British. So you can have a joke

Apparently when it's certain royals it's not racist to sneer at someone's supposed ethnicity and descent.

Eqs · 08/03/2023 13:14

God, after ALL the whinging about what a burden it’s been to his life….. what a proper tool he is, it’s just embarrassing🙈😆

He's not the world's greatest thinker, is he?

LadyVictoriaSponge · 08/03/2023 13:15

Somehow I don’t think Princess Lilibet will be doing work experience in a garden centre when she grows up.

sydneysunset · 08/03/2023 13:15

Now if only someone would leak Kate & Will’s WhatsApp messages, Hancock-style…

Well the idea of princes and princesses, kings and queens is fairly ridiculous and cringe but if we're not going to become a republic then Princess Lilibet she is, and we have no say in that.

Starflecked · 08/03/2023 13:15

I doubt anyone is surprised, I think it's worse she was given the queen's nickname amongst all of the shite they had caused, ew.

Serenster · 08/03/2023 13:15

Prince Charles played chicken with them, and they got desperate enough to take the bait?

(Opinions will obviously vary wildly on this depending on your thoughts on the Sussexes, but personally I think this makes them look utterly ridiculous and hypocritical. This is the couple who have their royal monogram on their doormat and their writing paper, though, so it’s not at all surprising).

Eqs · 08/03/2023 13:16

It does sound a bit like a cartoon character doesn’t it?! But maybe that’s where they’re headed for the next wodge of wonga🤷🏼‍♀️

Arapawa · 08/03/2023 13:16

Prince (the artist formerly known as) called himself Prince. Katie Price's daughter is called Princess.

Some people like that. It's tacky but let them get on with it.

JoanThursday1972 · 08/03/2023 13:16

I read it as they had baptised her with three given names - Princess Lilibet Diana. So it is a name, not a title. Like Princess Tiaamii Crystal Esther Andre. Who is also not a princess. Or Prince John James Fury, Prince Adonis Amaziah Fury and Prince Tyson Fury II. They aren't princes, either. (Was there a Prince Tyson Fury I? Thought not 😉)

whynotwhatknot · 08/03/2023 13:16

they do make me laugh-they want it all but then they dont

Personally I think the whole thing is HILARIOUS. Grin
