What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

Bowing or curtseying is not an issue with Americans. Protocol has long been that Americans don't bow or curtsey to foreign monarchs, much less their progeny. Some might choose to, but there is certainly no expectation.

Fabled · 08/03/2023 12:54

Well if Charles can have the gall to get hitched to his affair partner and call her Queen then I have no objections to Meghan and Harry calling their ‘royal blood’ child Princess.

Its all ridiculous, but H&M are probably the least grubby of the lot, so crack on.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 08/03/2023 12:56

Lots of very funny comments relating to the World Wide Privacy Tour.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 08/03/2023 12:57

I think this absolutely underlines their desperation to hang on with a death grip to the Royal Family, amazing isn’t it that they want their daughter associated with the toxic, racist, bullying family that they found ‘freedom’ from, all for the dollar, they are utterly shameful the pair of them.

IkBenDeMol · 08/03/2023 12:58

Of course she will use the title. Or rather, the parents will use the title on her behalf. A proper princess - that's so much more attractive to the American ear than a Duchess or Countess or anything of those titles. Or plain "Miss". Opens a lot of doors, the title "princess". 🙄

I honestly think the opportunity was missed over 20 years ago. The change should have been made at the time of Edward's wedding - either to include his future children or for all born after that. Clearly QEII didn't want to change it.

Perhaps if relations hadn't soured Charles would have been able to do it amicably with Harry's blessing. But it would surely be a PR disaster at this stage, he would look incredibly petty.

I think you are right about this. Also I remember there was some discussion in the press at the time that there had actually been some consideration of this in the RF (prompted by Charles) at the time of Edward's wedding, but the sticking point was Beatrice and Eugenie. Prince Andrew did not want them to lose HRH and the Queen backed him up.

Well said as a true Royle would have said "Royal titles my arse ...".

Before he was King he was...

His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, PC, ADC, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.

Badger1970 · 08/03/2023 12:59

I thought they wanted freedom from the toxicity of the royal family...

Yiayoula · 08/03/2023 13:00

@purpledalmation and @LadyVictoriaSponge

Agree 100% with both of you . 👏👏

miri1985 · 08/03/2023 13:00

Apparently they were all invited but no one came"King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton were invited to the intimate gathering, a source tells PEOPLE" people.com/royals/meghan-markle-prince-harry-invite-royal-family-princess-lilibet-christening/

I imagine now Charles is King that popping over to the States for a quick visit is infinitely more complicated.

Also interesting from that that they seem to just have had one Godfather and Godmother, isn't the British tradition like 6? "An insider tells PEOPLE there were between 20-30 guests at Friday's intimate gathering, including Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, Lilibet's godfather, Tyler Perry, and an unnamed godmother."

The world is full of descendants of defunct royal houses calling themselves King, Queen, Prince, Princess etc

People can call themselves anything they want - its just airs and graces though if they aren't actually performing a role

whatchaos · 08/03/2023 13:01

Having an archbishop christen her too - absolutely having their cake and eating it!

Inkpotlover · 08/03/2023 13:02

I honestly don't get their thinking. He says that being a Royal mentally damaged him in such a way he's needed years of therapy to recover, and then they go and very clear stake their children's place in that very same institution. If I were him, I'd be wanting my kids to run a mile from it, but clearly their mental health is less important than his.

LanaDelRabies · 08/03/2023 13:02

I mean, she is a princess. H&M renounced their own titles but that doesn't make their children any the less a prince or princess.

That aside, imagine coming onto a thread on a parenting forum to be nasty and judgy about a baby. Not to mention all the childish, sneery comments about people you don't know. It's not surprising they left the country with people like you lot judging their every move.

It's also funny how those who claim that H&M are trashy and vulgar are always the ones who carry on like audience members on the Jeremy Kyle show whenever H&M (and even their children) are mentioned. And you have the brass neck to call them undignified. Oh, the irony.

The difference is that Harry's children are equally as entitled to those titles as William's. They are an actual prince and an actual princess of an actual, current, present day royal family.

Spanielsarepainless · 08/03/2023 13:03

So much for leaving his poisonous family behind.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/03/2023 13:04

They did not renounce their titles though- they are still the Duke and Duchess of Hazard Sussex.

Removing it from B&E would have looked petty as well. They should have taken advantage of the gap in generations, but hindsight is always 20/20.

I wonder if the Archbishop will need to issue a statement about when the real Christening happened?

H&M renounced their own titles

They still have all their titles. They only thing they no longer have is the style HRH

be nasty and judgy about a baby

Absolutely no one is being nasty about or judging a baby/child.

like audience members on the Jeremy Kyle show

Never watched in my life. But you clearly have so tell us all about it.

By leaking that they were invited but didn't attend, H&M can now play the 'our peace offering invite was snubbed' card.

Plus, with my constant refrain that the whole system is batshit crazy, Harry and Archie remain one tragic accident from the throne until William becomes a grandfather. I think it makes sense for Harry, his DC and anyone in his position in future generations to have the title so that if that eventuality were to arise it wouldn't seem so jarring for them to go from lord/lady to future monarch in a day.

Googled him and he seems to be just a regular Bishop, I don't think the Episcopal church in the US have archdiocese, the Catholic Bishop of LA is an Archbishop as the Catholic church classify it as an archdiocese but not the Episcopal

Seems like an interesting fellow, worked for Nixon for years

We are all Prince's and Princesses' it's just the Royal "my ancestors killed and thieved better than yours" Family nicked these made up titles as well. Bloody cheeky Germans !

Queen Vera 99

I am sure you are going to say ‘oh it’s only a joke’

But this pisses me off. Not on behalf of the RF. But on behalf of anyone who has had the ‘where are you really from question?’

How many generations does a family need to live here for you to consider them British?

German isn’t an insult and you are questioning the citizenship of anyone with a near ancestor who isn’t British. So you can have a joke.
