What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

I can't see it either. Today, according to Royal.uk, the Countess of Wessex is planting a tree in honour of something. In this weather. While tomorrow, the Princess Royal is launching… a barge. Can you honestly see MM doing something anything like that? In fact, it's only when you look at the calendar that you realise the amount of tedious engagements the Royals carry out!

Yes I think a lot of people don't realise as most of these smaller engagements aren't reported on albeit in local press, so lots assume they're lazy and don't do anything. Not trying to argue its the hardest job in the world, but i imagine it's quite boring and repetitive to act enthused about doing the same thing you've done hundreds of times before. Some royals seem to really take a genuine interest in the people they meet though- especially Kate, the late Queen, William and Anne.

I don't think H&M had any desire to do those sorts of engagements and just wanted the big, glamorous parts, or the topical stuff that would make them look good in the press. Thing is if they hadn't burned all their bridges they could have moved away and still returned to a big welcome and taken part in those big events. It seems like Charles is happy to give them what they want though so I'm sure with time they will be back on their terms. Something he seems to lack is remembering that the queen never did is that public perception and support is actually very important to keep the monarchy going in modern times. Sure its not like people can abolish it themselves, but if support dwindles and people get fed up of supporting it then I'm sure things like funding and a forced slimming down would be considered by the powers that be.

80% of your post is you projecting your own feelings onto them, feelings no doubt seeded and fertilised by a rabid tabloid press. Literally none of us know them (apart from the Kensington Palace PR team posting here !) or Kate, and if ye are here then ye are to declare it.

Pot, kettle, black springs to mind...

That's incorrect.

"The conversation was notable for a number of reasons, not least of which because it involved the heir to the throne saying that he would like to “live inside [her] trousers” and joking that he would be reincarnated as a tampon, hence the name of the scandal." (Time Magazine)

Transcript here;

CHARLES: Oh, God. I’ll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!
CAMILLA: (laughing) What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? (Both laugh). Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.
CHARLES: Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck! (Laughs)
CAMILLA: You are a complete idiot! (Laughs) Oh, what a wonderful idea

My point is absolutely correct.

He did not, as the PP and others repeatedly state, say he wanted to be a tampon.

He was joking after his comment about living in her trousers (which is grim, but not the worst random thing a man has said in a smutty chat with a lover) that in his bad luck that’s what would happen.

Very different from the repeated comments suggesting that he said “I want to be your tampon”.

Its an icky enough chat wow thou totally misrepresenting the man.

I mean, he’s says specifically ‘god forbid, a tampax’ which is saying he doesn’t want to be a tampon.

Anyway, imagine if the media hacked and realised Harry and Meghans private ‘pillow talk’.
I’m sure the posters constantly bringing this up would be ‘frothing’. Such double standards

Roussette · 09/03/2023 08:27

I do feel a bit sorry for Charles and tampongate. It will never go away and it should never ever have reached the public's ears. Very unfair. And - to me - highlights how awful hacking is.

So I'm going to say it here... well done Harry for persisting with your hacking case against the Mirror. It is due to be heard at the High Court in May.

21 famous people have accepted damages. He hasn't. And there are a handful of other celebs who are with him on this (Cheryl Cole, the estate of George Michael, Ian Wright etc). This was hacking on an industrial scale. For Harry some 148 articles published in the 14 years included information that was allegedly obtained through unlawful means. Just disgusting.

Charles should be proud of him for this being subjected to hacking himself. And he should receive some recognition from anti Harry people on here, for hanging on in there. No doubt he will be ridiculed for it though. Because no anti H&M people recognise any good in anything this couple do.

I hope this case wins through.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/03/2023 07:33

You are right, but if Charles is as long lived as his mother, that will be about 20 years from now, in which case one hopes Harry, Meg and the kids will have moved on with their lives, ad there will be no need for William to take his "revenge".

The revenge could be President Meghan on her first state visit to England (UK having broken up, sadly) along wih her First Man Harry being greeted by King William and his newer wife who has finally made William happy in his dotage and the brothers are friends once more.

See my previous post. He is actively fighting against hacking. And as I said, I think it was abhorrent that Charles's private phone conversation was made public.

And Diana now cries happy tears, whilst still reigning in heaven?

Hmm - can I commend Norman Baker to the thread...

What’s that got to do with the double standards of posters though?
As I said, the people gleefully talking about C&Cs convo, when people would freak if the same was done to H&M.

And I wish Harry well in his court case.

Maybe if he proves hacks were where the stories about him came from, he can stop the ridiculous smear campaign about his brother ‘leaking and briefing and planting’ about him, to which he’s never presented a single shred of evidence.

There is no way that someone with a reputation for making any part of their life public is going to become a candidate for either of the major parties (because to achieve that you need to strike all sorts of deals to get there, and that simply won't happen with anyone with a reputation for indiscretion).

And they're just not rich enough to go it alone (like Ross Perot, or even like Trump, the only "independent" who won, but only because he managed to wangle a party's backing)

Accompanied by the Tyler Perry gospel choir - oh that's already happened at the christening, apparently. Elton and Diana will be besties once again, but he will like to be called plain 'Reg'.

Honestly? The "Royal Family" brand was lowered forever when a phone call between the current King and Queen was released in which one wanted to live forever as a tampon inside the other.

After that it could only go up!!

That is a misquote. He did not say that.

Why are you supporting phone hacking and invasion of privacy by repeating this?

This personal and private conversation has zero relevance to the public - but you choose to repeat it as a smear with apparent glee.

Do you apply the same standards to H&M?

user1465390476 · 09/03/2023 08:41

People give an awful lot of their energy supporting Meghan and Harry. I don’t understand it.

EdithWeston · 09/03/2023 08:42

Inkpotlover · 09/03/2023 08:10

Yes, interesting timing. It's very easy to look up future Royal engagements on the Royal.uk and see which Royal is doing what where…

You need to aim off a bit for that, because not all engagements are announced in advance (security reasons, I've always assumed) but the Court Circular/Gazette issued the following working day usually lists them all.

I walked by chance almost in to (then) Prince Charles when he visited my local food bank and community hub, and I looked to see if he'd been anywhere else nearby, but that visit wasn't ever listed on royal.uk. It was in the retrospective.

louise5754 · 09/03/2023 08:43

They are acting more like 90s posh and becks than royal.

Now the queen has gone they really don't care.

sydneysunset · 09/03/2023 08:43

America doesn’t really need totality to feel special there are so many influential old money families like Mellon , Getty , Hearst , even newer dynasties like Bush , these names are far more acknowledged and important

Indeed. And H&M have so far failed to make any impression on American society. The great & the good haven't exactly been beating a path to their door & they've been snubbed from all the blue ribbon events, such as the Obama party, Met gala etc. The American establishment will no doubt be curling its collective lip at the princess announcement in much the same way as most in the UK are.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 09/03/2023 08:48

Has Meghan ever mentioned she would run for president- or is this just more gossip? I don't believe she will but I guess the idea sells papers.

It reminds me of the question frequently asked during Barak'Is campaign "Is America ready for a black president"

One comedians reply was "well we just had a (slur) meaning Bush,

I think after Trump anything is possible!
