This whole thing (all of the stuff about W and H’s relationship) reminds me of The Script that gets used in (usually romantic) relationship breakups by men. The rewriting of past history to make it look like everything was bad and wrong, all the time, versus the reality, which was probably always somewhere in between. Then used as the catalyst and justification for a rift. Sadly I think time out and apart would probably have been a good thing for their future relationship, but now it’s so huge it seems impossible.

I hadn't thought of it like that but that does ring true. He's said it started at school so going way back. Interesting perspective.

Harry's mum died when he was 12 years old. His father does not appear to have been a very nurturing or involved father. Of course his relationship with his brother assumed greater importance than normal.

I think this is symptomatic of Harry's sense of propriety and exclusivity over William that is a repeated theme.

Harry complains that William didn't want to know him at school. William would have had his own friends and would not want a younger sibling hanging on. Perfectly normal reaction by William. He didn't stop being Harry's brother, I am sure he would have been there for Harry in a crisis, but he was no longer exclusive to Harry in the day to day.

William gets married and wants to include close friends in the wedding as well as his brother. Perfectly reasonable compromise is found that allows William's friends to do some speeches. His brother has a huge and very visible role as best man and does a speech, but he's not exclusively his brother's groomsman.

William gets married to Kate. Harry feels a disproportionate level of abandonment. He clearly still spends plenty of time with his brother, but William is no longer exclusively his.

I think this is one of the things I've noticed most about Harry from his own comments. It's this sense of codependency or control over William.

It's a reoccurring theme in what Harry himself says.

William can't forge his own path or have his own life without 'being inclusive' of Harry at all points.

I can't imagine being expected to both work and socialise with your sibling until your 40s.

Also, in what's coming out it looks like Harry frequently went for older women. Or perhaps women who could act as the adult in the relationship. That might make sense of Meghan but wouldn't be Meghan to blame but a manchild who never learnt to take responsibility for himself.

This rang true for me too, when it went wrong their whole history is reframed in a negative light. Suddenly it's an "I was never happy" type tale.

Harry would have been explaining all this to an American who probably has a different perspective on royalty.

I can imagine the ghost writer trying to understand why Harry felt so negatively towards his brother when he had been his best man, and Harry explaining that a royal wedding is pageantry or ‘a bald faced lie’ if he was feeling particularly bitter about the whole thing. His feelings are probably a bit more nuanced, but he is being paid for a tell all autobiography that needs to recoup its costs.

Totally agree @RedToothBrush & @MoirasSaggyBundles - sad really that that's the case and has now led to this current situation.
