I'm sure there were a lot more people planning the wedding than just a couple of best mates

wishingyouwell · 07/01/2023 21:01

No we have heard for years and years from William and Kate through their endless briefings.
Enough and yes, let's hear the other side. At last.

Article here from 2017 about why royal bridegrooms usually don't have a 'best man' but rather supporter(s) who fulfil the same rule

www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/2017120444484/prince-william-not-prince-harry-best-man-royal-wedding/

Though it also says that, breaking with tradition, Harry was William's best man, but William was Harry's supporter.

So if he was/wasn't, it's minor quibbling about whether the ordinary word was used, or the rarified alternative from royal circles. Bur somehow it's become another area for implied criticism

GermanFrench22 · 07/01/2023 21:01

It's like he wants to deny now that he ever got on well with his brother amd his wife in the past.

What party planning experience does he have?

He and William apparently organised their dad birthday party... But that's all?

They could have ordered some mini frostbitten willy straws from somewhere like Party Pieces, it’s a shame Pippa’s book wasn’t out in time.

Seriously though - this sounds like standard family pettiness about not feeling wanted. Maybe something was said about how W couldn’t choose his friends and it got blown out of proportion. Who knows. Lots of people misbehave and get stressed about wedding arrangements.

SD1978 · 07/01/2023 21:02

His speech was at night, during the evening reception, not the wedding breakfast, so he doesn't class it as a best man's speech, as that was done by one of Williams friends, I assume that's what he's saying? So he got to speak, but not in the official best man way straight after the ceremony, and instead got a slot in the evening engagement? I assume that's the gripe with this?

milveycrohn · 07/01/2023 21:02

Well first you have to define exactly what a Best Man is.
If he supports the groom, looks after the ring, accompanies him to the wedding, then surely he is the Best Man. Does it have to be the same person who made a speech at the reception?

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 21:02

What have we heard @wishingyouwell over the years?

Yes and most people realise it’s wedding stress and move on. They don’t hold a grudge

Netflix?
Omid Scobie?

indeed !

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 21:04

Well seeing what things he talks about in his book, like giving details of his frost bitten willy, how he lost his virginity it is a wonder William let him speak at all at the wedding!

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 07/01/2023 21:04

This whole thing (all of the stuff about W and H’s relationship) reminds me of The Script that gets used in (usually romantic) relationship breakups by men. The rewriting of past history to make it look like everything was bad and wrong, all the time, versus the reality, which was probably always somewhere in between. Then used as the catalyst and justification for a rift. Sadly I think time out and apart would probably have been a good thing for their future relationship, but now it’s so huge it seems impossible.

Elayna · 07/01/2023 21:05

After seeing his book extracts, I can well believe Willy had reservations about Harry giving a speech 😂

anywya there are photos where he appears to be the best man, what an odd thing to lie about

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 07/01/2023 21:06

Yes and I think lots of people just grow up a lot after their wedding, particularly if it’s their first and they’re young, you go on to have children afterwards. You look back and realise how irrelevant it all was in the scheme of things.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 07/01/2023 21:07

I think Harry has to come up with all these perceived injustices to justify what he’s done. Otherwise he has to live with what he’s done.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 07/01/2023 21:07

(And I think they’re all far from perfect in the situation)

whynotwhatknot · 07/01/2023 21:08

dear god-is anything real harry

what is the point of all this

Placcyboel · 07/01/2023 21:08

What on earth 🤣 He does realise that this was televised and there were guests. Maybe he feels he should have got a badge so there was no doubt who was the top man/winner.

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 21:10

The problem was the wedding wasn't all about Harry, that's where William and Kate went wrong

wishingyouwell · 07/01/2023 21:10

To give but a few examples, the Daily Mail, Express, Sun and all the other Murdoch outlets... not to mention all the sycophant 'journalists' on TV and fake biographers...day after day after day...

Enough. The other side at last. If Harry did an interview every day for the rest of his life he wouldn't be able to compete.

The other side at last. Sick to the teeth of the William Kate agenda.

It has to be something like this. It's all a bit 'Dear Diary, today Willy called me a poo head'.

mateysmum · 07/01/2023 21:10

If it had rained on Harry's wedding day. Harry would have blamed it on William. Millions of people saw Harry standing next to William at the altar, a broad grin on his face. Now it seems that his recollections do indeed vary. FFS Harry, just because W wanted his two oldest friends to have a part in the wedding doesn't mean you weren't best man. And in case you forgot it was William's wedding, it wasn't all about you.

Is there nothing in Harry's life that can't be turned into a bitter memory, that doesn't make him the victim. You only need to be on Mumsnet for 5 minutes to know that wedding dramas are two a penny.

Elayna · 07/01/2023 21:10

Yes it is like the script! He’d re writing their relationship to say it was all a lie he never loved him or understood him and he drove him away into the arms of another !

Abccde · 07/01/2023 21:10

Even if its true - why is it Harry that feels hard done by?

William could not have whi he wanted as Best Men. It was his and Kates day.

It's as if Harry needs to hurt his brother in so many different ways.

It's not normal. It's paranoid behaviour.

Harry is the lucky one, he is the spare.
