The hyphen buggers everything online cos Americans don’t know how to use it and they mostly use an n rule to join words which is slightly longer and a different key. Confuses computer.

No fairy godmother would allow lifetime doomed to ringing helpline.

Chav my arse, who cares what a lot of Pearl clutchers think. Not everyone wants to be called Ptolemy or Cystitis.

I LOVE two names, just drop the hyphen. Sophia is lovely. I’m a fan of as many vowels as possible.

When baby due?!? May?!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 23/03/2023 12:38

Can I commend 'Chav my arse' as the litter tray quote of the week. This really did my me laugh out loud - just as well I wasn't drinking a cup of MN spit-able tea at the time. 😹

Cystitis

Isn't that Ollie's nickname?

Anniegetyourgun · 23/03/2023 12:43

It's his second name, as per T.S. Eliot (The Naming of Cats).

NewBootsAndRanty · 23/03/2023 12:47

Squidge has finally realised the new bed is actually quite cosy.

Thank you, guys. My first granddaughter, DD1's daughter, who was taken into care straight from hospital and subsequently adopted, is called Ella- Rose and there is no love lost between DD1 and DD2 at the moment so she has to avoid anything too similar.
Naming a child is such a huge responsibility but DD2 seems set on a hyphen. I've already persuaded her to change the spelling of Elsie from Elyse on the grounds that the poor child would have a lifetime of correcting not only the spelling but the punctuation.
She's due early May but I think she'll come early.

Supersimkin2 · 23/03/2023 14:07

Exciting times, Paper. I wouldn’t worry too much - avoid Boris/Adolf/Vlad and you’re off.

Allergictoironing · 23/03/2023 17:41

You could suggest Elisa to DD2? Shortens to Ellie, Lee or Lisa, goes well as part of a "double" name like Annie suggested with e.g. with Mae. I love Sophia (and Sophie) too.

Allergictoironing · 23/03/2023 17:43

Ah reading back saw the problem with an "E" first name. She could swap it about a bit and try something like Sophia Louise?

Papergirl1968 · 23/03/2023 18:17

Louise is one of her middle names so that's an idea.
Dd2 is having contractions which has put me into a panic but pretty sure it's just Braxton hicks!

RumNotRun · 23/03/2023 19:04

I think something like Tabitha Carol, Tamara Catherine, Tanya Clare...to honour a certain furry beast 😁

Papergirl1968 · 23/03/2023 21:16

TC - I like it!
The thread called To think your tail is your own responsibility in AIBU is funny if anyone needs a laugh.

Supersimkin2 · 23/03/2023 21:38

Squidge is most aptly named.

nettie434 · 23/03/2023 21:47

I love Supersimkin's riposte to the pearl clutching name monitors. They are not always right on that board anyway. Somebody was very dismissive of Rebekah, insisting that the spelling was very vulgar and the name should be spelled Rebecca. Then another poster pointed out that it was a biblical name and Rebekah was a more accurate rendition of the Hebrew name.

Hopefully your daughter will find something she likes, Papergirl1968. I like the idea of you gently suggesting names that start with T and C to honour our hero.

Supersimkin2 · 23/03/2023 23:22

Katherine with ‘Kit’ or ‘Kitten’ for short is nice.

HouseofHolbein · 24/03/2023 06:58

Kathryn is an excellent name and Kathryn Louise is a classic combination 🤣🤣

And actually Katie Lou is quite sweet for a little one... it's what my daddy used to call me 💕💕

The coming out party is proving to be a bit of a damp squib so far. Door opened at around 8am today. Cat still in igloo when I delivered breakfast half an hour later. Went up to check at noon, Tobias has gone into the uber security of the corner under the linen racks. He has now returned to the igloo.

Girlcat is meanwhile sulking in my wardrobe. I had a bit of an incident Thursday night - she ran between my feet as I was walking out of the room. I managed not to step on her but got my feet tangled and went crashing down with my not inconsiderable mass mainly on my left knee; injury list is very badly bruised top of left tib/fib. pulled right hamstring, pulled left triceps & deltoid, slightly bruised left elbow. Despite 2 x 30/500 co-codamol, 1 x Naproxen, ice packing and Voltarol gel, that little lot kept me awake most of Thursday night. Not only did me crashing to the ground give Girlcat a shock, but I went for a couple of hours kip this afternoon on the bed - HER BED (well it is in the daytime). Naturally she can't possibly rest on a king size bed when I'm taking up most of one side! Hence the sulking.

HouseofHolbein · 25/03/2023 19:16

Oh @Allergictoironing gentle hugs from me x that's the sort of thing I'd do. I'm currently sporting a huge bruise on my foot due to dropping something on it at work 😭😭 and it's only a matter of time before I trip over a cat really.

Hope girlcat forgives you and that Tobias ventures to the door this weekend

Allergictoironing · 25/03/2023 19:27

I can be pretty clumsy in general when it comes to tripping. Due to my bad back & leg, I have a "lazy" left foot which means it's not all that uncommon for me to catch either the toe going upstairs, or the heel going down - not YET managed to fall the whole way down the stairs! This also means I have shit balance, never a strong point with me but pretty poor now. I've ignored the fact that I've jarred my back out a bit as well, as I have chiropractor on Monday anyway.

Tobias is still in the igloo, Girlcat is still kipping in the wardrobe. I may have to resign myself to a cat-less evening at this rare.

Papergirl1968 · 25/03/2023 23:13

Oh, Allergic, so sorry to hear that. It sounds so painful and is also the sort of thing I'd do. I'm forever saying "move, Matt" as it tends to be him getting under my feet.

Allergictoironing · 26/03/2023 08:40

Tobias was still in his igloo this morning, looking out of the bedroom door. However I did hear a couple of "thump, scrabble" noises during the night which suggests that either he emerged or Girlcat had a look in, then one or the other panicked. His supper bowl from last night was also empty & licked clean (def not girlcat, she always just licks off the gravy & leaves the meat behind). Both are behaving as though there's been no change i.e. the door

Supersimkin2 · 26/03/2023 10:50

💐 for your poor battered self Allergic. Can you chill out today? Girlcat will want to nurse you. You’re not going to work tomorrow are you.

Scuffles of progress are A Good Sign.

It’s raining so hard Prince won’t go out. I’ve cancelled family cos the thought of DF in wheelchair being drenched in a bus shelter isn’t very springlike. Neither was DF language at prospect of Lovely Day Out.

Allergictoironing · 26/03/2023 11:25

You jest Lana - I was in work Friday all day, despite the lack of sleep Thursday night post fall. The only really painful bit is the left knee, the rest is just aches & pains, and my car is an auto as that's my bad leg. But tomorrow is WFH short day anyway, as I have a fair bit of flexi hours I can take.

Tobias still in the igloo.

Papergirl1968 · 26/03/2023 11:56

You look after yourself, Allergic.
It is a day to do nothing other than cuddle our furry overlords. I have Matt snuggled up.on my chest.
We need a new thread but I don't know how to link it. Can anyone who is more proficient than me oblige?
