Hmm. Ginger cat should have waited until it was his turn with the one brain cell timeshare!

Supersimkin2 · 14/03/2023 21:57

Am watching the ‘Are Big Cats roaming Free in Our Countryside’ with interest and frankly hope.

Little Cedric will be reported by a breathless poster soon. As for TC, it’s a miracle the Sun aren’t camping on Grumpy’s doorstep. Unless they’ve tried, caught one look at the striped invader, and fled. This piece made the nationals earlier.

Shit shit shit shit shit! Tobias just escaped from his room when I went to give him breakfast just now!

Headed straight for the stairs, there was a brief encounter at the bottom and both cats fled in opposite directions. He's now hiding behind the big PC in my study, she's hiding somewhere in the living room.

Can't work from home today as being trained on new stuff that I need to be in for.

Plan A is to shut Girlcat in the living room (has her food, water, litter tray in there) and leave him to roam the study, hallways and his room until I get home. Closing my bedroom door, as there's FAR too many hiding places in there!

😱😟🙀

nettie434 · 15/03/2023 08:11

That sounds a good plan, Allergic. With luck, you will come home to find Tobias draped languidly over the PC. Things like that ALWAYS happen on the most inconvenient days.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/03/2023 08:24

Plan A sounds good, probably better than the nuclear option of leaving all the doors open and letting the cats get on with it in your absence today 😹.
Being positive, hopefully Tobias was taking the opportunity to explore rather than run away, so sounds as if he's growing in confidence?

OP posts:
Supersimkin2 · 15/03/2023 08:47

Yes! He’s come out to explore….

Good luck 🤞 with the training (his and yours).

Quite a good idea to let them get on with it by themselves in peace.

Papergirl1968 · 15/03/2023 10:16

I know it's easy for me to say but don't stress, Allergic. Tobias will be ok.
Love that, Lana. A neighbour knocked on our door yesterday to ask if Matt was the fat tabby who had gone in through their car flap late at night and eaten their cat's food, to the understandable annoyance of their ginger. It wasn't Matt as he rarely goes out these days.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/03/2023 10:27

Sybil (as usual) joined us for breakfast. I noticed a brown mark on her face, while she was finishing Mrs Grumpy's porridge. Closer examination showed it to be a crunchy nut cornflake stuck in her fur. 🤣

Well I've come home to find him still wedged behind the filing cabinet, I can just about see the back of his bum. I don't know if he's moved all day as no sign of food being eaten or tray being used upstairs. Tried to encourage him out with one of those "grabbers" that elderly people have (have one for bad back days, & for when I had my shoulder op) - he tried to wedge himself in even tighter if that's possible (sigh).

Can't move the filing cabinet out, as there's piles of stuff in front of it holding it there, there's a wall one side, and the PC desk the other.

Girlcat was very disgruntled when I let her out of the living room & shot upstairs to hide in the wardrobe, but ofc that door was shut. She's had a decent cuddle then gone up there again.

Really not sure what to do. I THINK my only real option is to close up the other rooms again then knacker my back pulling stuff around in the study so I can move the filing cabinet out of the corner. You never know, me huffing & puffing moving heavy things may make him move out on his own!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 15/03/2023 21:45

DS & friends went camping on Bodmin Moor last night. They had not heard of The Beast of Bodmin Moor... until I mentioned it 😂 Tbh DS would have just offered Dreamies, a belly rub and a butt scritch 😁

(I checked this morning - all kids survived the night.)

Allergictoironing · 15/03/2023 22:14

Tobias is still wedged in behind the filing cabinet. I managed to move it a couple of inches, but TBH my back won't take any more tonight.

In-office duty the next 2 days so won't have the time or energy to move stuff until the weekend. He's sure to be getting hungry soon and need to use the tray, and he's moved around a bit behind there so can't see any reason he can't get himself out OK.

So I think I'm going to have to leave him there and just hope the cats don't try to kill each other during the night! Ah well, didn't plan to let them mingle yet but he's forced my hand hasn't he! 🙄

NewBootsAndRanty · 15/03/2023 22:16

Could you get a broom down the back of it and gently but firmly encourage him out that way?

Supersimkin2 · 16/03/2023 06:50

Allergic I reckon he’ll come out of his own accord. How long your nerves can stand it is another question.

Yes, if anyone could get the Beast out it’s DS. I half expect the next pic to be DS taking Beast for a walk on a lead through Bodmin Asda to the pets aisle. Leroy would approve.

Allergictoironing · 16/03/2023 07:30

The prodigal has returned!

First thing I did when I came down was look behind the filing cabinet - no Tobias. Girlcat sitting upright on the back of the sofa looking very alert. On investigation discovered him in his favorite hiding place in his room, under the linen rack. Food & water untouched, but he'd clearly been driven upstairs by the need to use the tray.

Cat now fed, a couple of bits of his fave cooked chicken tossed under the rack with him, and the door FIRMLY closed! In office duty today & tomorrow, so will attempt to prevent any more exploring until at least the weekend.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/03/2023 10:09

The prodigal has returned!

Goid news. Of course you'll never know what Tobias and Girlcat actually got up to last night 🙀.

Yay for Tobias extracting himself!

I've been shopping for a new litter tray for Squidge this morning , slightly alarmed by the first caption in the pictures..

Allergictoironing · 16/03/2023 19:24

Home quite late for me (WHY do people call with a query at 4:45, that ends up as 3 complex queries???). Girlcat has relaxed & was akip on my bed until she heard the door. Tobias is in his igloo; he's eaten maybe half of his breakfast only, which surprised me bearing in mind he missed breakfast yesterday morning and supper last night.

But he did let me briefly touch the end of his nose again 😁

nettie434 · 16/03/2023 23:16

Glad that Tobias is safely back in his zone.

(WHY do people call with a query at 4:45, that ends up as 3 complex queries???).

If they're like me, they will have worried and procrastinated about phoning all day until they realise that it's nearly the end of the day and not phoning means another night not being able to sleep because the query hasn't been resolved.

An explanation for you but no practical help when you need to be home to perform your feline ministrations!

Allergictoironing · 17/03/2023 07:25

Well the first query was relevant for her to be calling me, and directly related to some work I'd been doing. But then we had the "while I've got you..." questions on something that isn't technically mine, but closely related enough so I could help her. I don't resent the call at all - the caller is new, her boss went on holiday 2 days after she started, she's lovely, and helping her now will save a lot of misunderstandings & hassles down the line.

Tobias is pretending that the jail break was a figment of my imagination & never happened. Girlcat doesn't care either way as long as she can lie on her back or side for hours with all 4 feet wrapped round my hand & arm while I squidge her tummy.

Happy feast of St Gertrude, patron saint of cats and those who love them.

Sounds like a Patron Saint I can align myself with 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

YesItsMeIDontCare · 17/03/2023 18:59

I have crossed out Patrick on my calendar and put Gertrude there instead.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 18/03/2023 19:53

You've gotta help me out here guys!

Why, for the love of all that is furry, does Leroy hate, loathe, detest and despise... black cats?
