Puppy changed mind 😭

After saving months for a £2000 Maltipoo I’m getting cold feet. Come here for different prospectives so please don’t hate me but tell me the truth, as I feel like a horrendous person..

Puppy is from a breeder, saw her at a week, lovely put deposit down. Very excited…
Puppy is 4 weeks old and still has the pinkest nose I have ever seen, I have googled the breed with pink noses and as shallow as I am it wasn’t something I really wanted and after saving month for a particular breed feeling a little upset. Mainly upset with my self that it bothers me.

I’m a previous dog owner last dog passed away earlier this year at 15. Dogs are fantastic and hard work, have a family and wanted like our previous dog to do everything together but worried about the amount of sun the dog will take before getting burned..

Im not fussed about liver colour, some pink etc. This is pig pink, dog is white too….

I know this is what you get for a cross breeds. I feel so many people have cross breeds and it’s not happened to them.
He is a beautiful put, but I’m concerned to get over the pig nose esp as his not cheap.

You’re right. Very shallow

Hardly shallow, loads of people choose their pets based on how pretty they think they are?

Jollyjoy · 20/10/2024 11:31

I can’t relate to how you feel but if you think you are going to dislike the dog because of how it looks then maybe you are best to walk away and wait for what you want.

Attelina · 20/10/2024 11:32

You're already detaching yourself from the dog so please don't get it as the resentment and dislike will deepen over time and you will ruin the dogs life by rehoming it.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/10/2024 11:33

I see dogs as individuals with different personalities. What they look like is irrelevant, but yes, walk away as you don’t sound the right owner for this pup.

Would you be disappointed to have a brown eyed child if you preferred blue eyes?

FiveShelties · 20/10/2024 11:35

I would not get a dog if you are worried about this.

TheBelleOfBelfastCity · 20/10/2024 11:35

OP, you are being ridiculous. Return the poor dog back to the breeder if this is really how you feel.

Our (pedigree, equally expensive) golden retriever was born with a black nose - fast forward 18 months and it is now pink. Yes, I would’ve preferred it to stay black but I’m not upset or worked up about it.

EnfysHeulenEira · 20/10/2024 11:36

Dogs noses can turn black. I had a puppy with a pink nose and by the age of 2 it was black

The fact that many people do it doesn't mean it isn't shallow.

Appleblum · 20/10/2024 11:38

Puppies are a huge commitment. If you're not 100% sure let the breeder know now, it's much easier for a younger puppy to find a new home than an older one.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:43

Thanks. I suppose I have not seen the dogs personality yet so it’s making it difficult to only see looks…
we have had rescues before and nearly got a rescue a few years ago. Not at one point was I bothered about looks. I suppose it’s because I had this idea in my mind of a teddy bear for months and now I need to change that.
i actually have 3 disabled children so get you can’t always choose….
I suppose I wanted to feel in control about a choice, I didn’t care about colour of the dog but just would of liked that bear look…
Im also worried about the sun as dog is pink all over, I know her nose I will have to sun cream up but will her body be ok

£2,000 for a crossbreed? I will never understand that reasoning. If you want your dog to look a particular way, don't buy a crossbreed. I wanted a black labrador, so I bought a black labrador.
To answer your question, don't take this puppy home - they deserve someone who loves them regardless of nose colour.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:44

@TheBelleOfBelfastCity what suncream do you use? Is hers bright pink, I know liver noses are quite common with that bread, which are lovely in my opinion 🤣.
do you find you have to keep her in when it’s nice?

OP posts:
Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:46

@Indianajet im sure I will love them once I have seen his personality. Have seen lots of cockapoo and not one with a bright pink nose 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sethera · 20/10/2024 11:47

It sounds as though you are looking for reasons not to get the dog - if you really wanted it, the nose colour wouldn't bother you. Perhaps you're not ready yet after losing your dog of 15 years?

Monstermunch10 · 20/10/2024 11:49

I think your not ready for another dog
This is your minds way of letting you know that it's not the right time

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:50

@Sethera I’m a little concerned it’s that too. She looked like a teddy too 🤦🏼‍♀️. I wasn’t trying to get the same dog.
However there was a few times she got me to the end of my teather and them cure eyes kept me from going 🤪🤪. Like when I bathed her and she ran out the garden and rolled birds poo straigh after and I was 9 months pregnant 🤣. Luckily she had them eyes I forgave her quickly 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣.
I already know it’s a big commitment.
or she got out and chased a cat and ran after her miles bear footed.

Witchyandtwitchy · 20/10/2024 11:50

You can’t put sunscreen all over its nose! Smell is their main sense, it’d drive the poor thing mad.

You are being unreasonable to spend £2000 on a crossbreed.

Pandasnacks · 20/10/2024 11:51

I don't understand really, you said you wanted to feel in control of the choice but you literally went and chose her in person and put the deposit down... is this not just cold feet because it's a big purchase? If you don't want the dog walk away now and choose a different one, so that that puppy can get a home with someone who wants it and not be messed around. The breeder will get to keep your deposit and still have time to find another home so they won't care

AutumnLeaves24 · 20/10/2024 11:53

I think the puppy is only 4 weeks (& still at the breeders) now is the time to decide.

puppies are hard work, you need to love & adore them.

why not look at a rescue again? It shouldn't be that hard to find even a cross breed through a breed specific rescue.

JMSA · 20/10/2024 11:55

Umm, this has to be a wind-up, surely.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:56

I do want a dog the look is just a massive difference by the nose colour 🤦🏼‍♀️.
@AutumnLeaves24 i can’t as have a 3 year old. None give when you have a little one, reason we stopped looking. Also needs to hyperallengic.

Megifer · 20/10/2024 12:01

No guarantee a mutt is going to be hypoallergenic op.

I wouldn't get this dog because of that, and that you're already doubtful just over it's nose colour. Or maybe make sure the breeder will take it back at any point (doubtful though if they breed mutts and sell them for that extortionate price, doesn't sound very reputable tbh)

SidekickSylvia · 20/10/2024 12:02

I think you should pass on this one, op. It's not the dog for you. I'm not keen on white dogs with pink noses either, I see one on my walks sometimes (an EBT I think), and I just can't see him as cute. I know it's considered shallow, but I do think you have to think your dog's adorable - particularly during the annoying puppy stage as it helps you to forgive them anything, as you found with your last dog.
Leave him to someone who does want the white/pink combo, and can see his appeal.
