Puppy changed mind 😭

After saving months for a £2000 Maltipoo I’m getting cold feet. Come here for different prospectives so please don’t hate me but tell me the truth, as I feel like a horrendous person..

Puppy is from a breeder, saw her at a week, lovely put deposit down. Very excited…
Puppy is 4 weeks old and still has the pinkest nose I have ever seen, I have googled the breed with pink noses and as shallow as I am it wasn’t something I really wanted and after saving month for a particular breed feeling a little upset. Mainly upset with my self that it bothers me.

I’m a previous dog owner last dog passed away earlier this year at 15. Dogs are fantastic and hard work, have a family and wanted like our previous dog to do everything together but worried about the amount of sun the dog will take before getting burned..

Im not fussed about liver colour, some pink etc. This is pig pink, dog is white too….

I know this is what you get for a cross breeds. I feel so many people have cross breeds and it’s not happened to them.
He is a beautiful put, but I’m concerned to get over the pig nose esp as his not cheap.

@godmum56 our last one was hyper allergenic :).
dd has asthma and it’s always worse when we are away as go to dog friendly caravans/lodges which have dog hair and it does set her off.

Do you have help for puppy training, walking etc on top of 3 kids with additional needs?

We chose our breed based on what worked with us but I did purposefully choose a puppy that was tricolour as that’s what I liked the look of. I do think people aren’t being honest when they say looks aren’t important eg I prefer hounds and find flat nosed breeds hideous and fluffy teddy bear dogs awful.

Have you planned for puppy hood and what to do if any of your kids are having a difficult day and you don’t have time/energy for the puppy?

Stormyweatheroutthere · 20/10/2024 13:44

Subconsciously you are looking for an excuse not to get ddog..

WTAF have I just read?! Confused

@Mummy289 Rehome the poor dog. You don't deserve her. And never get another pet!

She hasn't got the puppy yet.

godmum56 · 20/10/2024 13:37

so why do you need hypoallergenic?

There are no guarantees with ''hypoallergenic''dog types anyway.

It's a huge myth. Some in the same litter can provoke allergies and others not. {According to someone who looked into it ~ a lovely woman who is desperate for a dog, and her husband has very severe asthma, so much so that they cannot even risk a so called 'hypoallergenic' breed, as the woman said some still make his chest tighten and struggle to breathe- she said the only way she can have a dog is if she divorces!.

She's not prepared to get a puppy and then discover that as the coat comes through it makes her husband allergic, and this means the dog would need to be given back.

It's not worth it she says in case the dog would need to go back. Heartbreaking for the dog and her, so she just admires other people's dogs.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 13:45

@HappiestSleeping we are well use to grooming. We did our previous. Actually have a 400 ft garden as rural so sure he would get his energy off with some ball games :).
Mixed with a toy poodle.

Where do I begin? You are paying £2k to a back yard breeder for a mongrel? Madness. Your feelings about the dog are influenced by the colour of his nose? I have recently adopted two dogs from a local rescue place whose previously miserable lives were caused by people like you. A tired out tiny ex stud dog who has previously sired many litters And a sweet puppy who remained unsold at 9 months presumably because he didn’t meet someone’s exacting standards of loveliness. They were neglected, had ear mites and lice, the younger needed surgery and the older one has had a lot of dental work. It is people like you who keep the cycle of overbreeding and cruelty going, thank goodness there are a few real dog lovers out there to whom a pink nose means nothing and who won’t pay a kings ransom to keep this cruel over breeding going, you don’t sound mature enough to have another dog.

redtrain123 · 20/10/2024 13:47

Out of curiosity, just looked at Maktipoo prices n Pets at Home and must seemed to be between £1500-£2000. I’m surprised as well.

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/10/2024 13:48

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, and all dogs shed both fur and dander.

Some breeds shed far far less and due to coat type/texture don't drop that coat everywhere (it stays stuck to the other fur on the dog and you have to brush it off), however hair grows, hair dies, hair loosens and comes out. All hair does this, there is no way to stop it and it wouldn't be healthy if you could.

Dander (skin and dried saliva) is what triggers most allergies, and all dogs will shed this, again to a greater or lesser degree.

If you have second thoughts about a puppy, for any reason, then back out. Raising a puppy is intense and hard work, trying to raise a puppy you have doubts about or second thoughts about is a lot harder!

As for the price, decent for a super well bred dog who has been put through an early socialisation/habituation/training program like Smart Pup or Puppy Culture... absolute rip off if that puppy is back yard bred simply sticking together two cute breeds the owner happens to have with no health testing, no early socialisation etc, probably left alone hours on end whilst the owner/breeder works (puppies are expensive because it takes a lot of money and time a breeder is not earning a wage elsewhere, to produce...).

Lavenderblossoms · 20/10/2024 13:49

Do not be a pet owner!

An animal is not a bloody accessory for you to wear and show off.

Jesus christ and yes I am judging. The most ridiculous thing I've read on here.

Just get a virtual pet then you can make it up as you like. I hope someone else gets that little baby and adores it's pink nose and all.

Utterly bizarre.

People should adopt not shop!

grumpypedestrian · 20/10/2024 13:49

Having a big garden is an advantage but no substitute for walks and having a good explore and sniff.

What socialising do you plan on doing? Will the breeder accept the dog back if you change your mind? I’m guessing not at 2k for a cross breed.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 13:51

@grumpypedestrian
we managed before not always easy. Eldest is 14 so we are planning to do this as a family.
our previous dog we did get the training in just before we found out we were pregnant with the first so know it will be harder this time. I do feel a little anxious to how difficult it will be. But does anyone go in to it thinking it will be easy?
We have all been learning how to train a pup not that’s I’m expecting the kids to look after it. The last dog was well loved and everyone helped out.

I think your not ready for another dog
This is your minds way of letting you know that it's not the right time

Absolutely this, OP. So far you have done no harm. You haven't taken the pup, the breeder will absolutely find another buyer. Give yourself time to get your head into the right space so that you don't end up making a costly and emotionally devastating mistake

Attelina · 20/10/2024 13:51

Of course some dog breeds, colours and sizes appeal to us more than others but a nose colour seems such a trivial thing.

One of mine is a rescue Doberman. He had his ears and tail illegally cropped/docked as a puppy.

If you came across him in a dark alley he would scare the living daylights out of you but he is the most loving and affectionate dog.

Why are you fixating on the nose and not the dog as a whole?

Contrastinggrassstates · 20/10/2024 13:51

What the f have I just read? It’s a living, breathing, feeling being. Not a bloody accessory. I don’t think you should get a dog full stop. Sorry.

I've never had anything but Whippety sighthound types... They fit with lifestyle, and I find them aesthetically pleasing.

Most people DO have preferences as to the type of dog they like.

Pup Parade as seen in local park...all owned by different people.

berksandbeyond · 20/10/2024 13:52

This is the dumbest thing I’ve read in a while and honestly there is stiff competition. I wouldn’t even be getting a dog if I had 3 disabled children (one of whom is only 3) but I certainly wouldn’t be paying 2 grand for a mutt.. that isn’t as insta perfect as you want. Get a cuddly toy!

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 13:53

@grumpypedestrian don’t have the dog yet, I wouldn’t give the dog back, that’s why I feel I have this week to have a good think. I’m thinking it’s just cold feet and a bit of anxiety but whether there is a big reason for that. I know it’s a big responsibility.
already enquired about dog training classes. Also rural and everyone has dogs, well use to the people here with dogs from my pup before.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 20/10/2024 13:54

What hell

you bought a mongrel for 2K did I read that right

plus if given back to the breeder expect to loss your deposit if you paid one or worse they saw you coming and now have changed numbers.

RoachFish · 20/10/2024 13:55

I don’t think it’s the right time for you to get a puppy. You have 4 kids, 3 of them disabled and the youngest only 3. Puppies are a huge commitment and a huge amount of work. You won’t be able to leave the dog alone even for 5 minutes to start with, they will cry and keep you up at night, they will bite you and the kids with their tiny sharp teeth.

HappiestSleeping · 20/10/2024 13:57

It seems like @Mummy289 is resolved to get this dog despite how inadvisable it is. I wouldn't bother pointing out all the reasons it isn't a good idea anymore. I agree with some of the PP's that it is likely a wind up post.

Sorbiecorner · 20/10/2024 13:58

£2k for a crossbreed it utterly bonkers. Ridiculous price to pay and it will come with no history.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 13:58

@RoachFish I appreciate your honesty!
our old pup never did bite like ever so didn’t realise that. I just assumed some did and some didn’t 🤦🏼‍♀️. You never know what you will get.

OP posts:
Demonhunter · 20/10/2024 14:01

If you're changing your mind over the colour of her nose, you shouldn't be getting a dog. Just back out now so the puppy can go to someone who will love her just as she is. Please refrain from ever getting a puppy, as they can change over time and you may not be happy at some point, there's enough discarded dogs as it is.
