My mini poodle attacked by Bull Mastiff

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/07/2022 14:19

I'm sitting in my home waiting to hear from the vet how my little mini poodle is😢

Walking in our local woods this morning, as we do every morning, she's pootling about sniffing etc when this bloody great dog came charging out from a side path...off lead...no owner...and just full on attacked her.

She's screaming, the big dog is biting her...suddenly 2 more big dogs😱 also charging towards us followed by man.

The man jumps on the dog and managed to drag it off...my little girl is bloody and crying, lying there...the other dogs are circling. I was feckin terrified. This has all happened so fast.

Now waiting. Just need to tell someone as she is my only family now.😭

How horrific 🥲

Hugasauras · 10/07/2022 14:22

Oh how terrifying for you both. I really hope your little girl is okay. Sending gentle hugs from me and DDog. You will be in shock so make sure you eat and drink something. Is there anyone who can come sit with you? Flowers

Catsdrool · 10/07/2022 14:23

Oh that’s awful I hope you get good news soon

runforyourdog · 10/07/2022 14:23

Omg you poor thing and your poor little dog! Sounds absolutely awful.

I hope your little girl is ok. Flowers

LightDrizzle · 10/07/2022 14:25

I hope you get good news from the vet. What a terrible experience, your poor girl. Have you contacted the police on the non-emergency number? If not, please do when you get the chance. His dogs were dangerously out of control and it needs to be prevented in future.

Crazycatlady83 · 10/07/2022 14:27

I'm so sorry to hear this, I hope you get some positive news from the vet shortly.

When you feel stronger, consider reporting this man to the police for having out of control dogs - it's such a horrific incident, the authorities need to deal with it

Thank you. Yes. I find I am having waves of crying and shaking...teeth chattering etc. Have massive pounding headache also. It was terrifying. I wasn't sure if the other dogs were also going to attack her...or me!

She has a slight heart murmur so the vets are worried about the sedation they need to give her in order to attend to her wound...they want her to calm down a bit first.

I'm so sorry! This is my worst nightmare as a fellow small dog owner!

I will keep absolutely everything crossed for her ! Sending you lots of well wishes to as it must have been so scary

ComDummings · 10/07/2022 14:32

Please report this to the police. Hope your little one is OK

BiteyShark · 10/07/2022 14:33

How awful.

We had a dog deliberately run a very long distance to start growling and barking aggressively at mine which I managed to get in between to be more scary shouting at the dog to scare it off.

My heart was thumping and it was terrifying and that was without mine being physically attacked so I can't imagine how awful it must have been for you and your poor dog.

I hope you are both ok Flowers and you get good news from the vets.

Whitney168 · 10/07/2022 14:33

How horrific. I hope all goes well with the poor girl's treatment, and look after yourself too.

The dreadful thing about this is that the police and dog warden will probably have no 'interest' (wrong word, but not a legal issue for them to follow up) as no human was injured. I would be publicising it on local sites though.

272Newnames · 10/07/2022 14:40

Blimey, that’s scary. I do hope your little one is ok and that the other owner pays the vets bills.

Will keep fingers crossed for you.

woodblock · 10/07/2022 14:42

Hope your girl is ok.

This is one of my fears whenever I walk my dog in the woods - lots of 'aggressive' type dogs off the lead. I try to steer clear x

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/07/2022 14:43

The owner was really apologetic. Got his dogs under control. Then he took his dogs back to his vehicle. Drove it back down track to find me.

I was struggling to carry her (osteoarthritis in knees, couldn't use my walking stick while carrying her)..had her in my arms with the wound pressed tight to my body as I had no spare clothing etc to put round her. I thought if I could keep pressure and stop bleeding till I could get help. I could feel the blood soaking through to my belly.

He came back and drove us to my vet, gave me his t-shirt to cover her, stayed with me, admitted to vet his responsibility, told vet he would cover all costs and paid substantial deposit there and then. He seems fully aware of the seriousness of his dogs behaviour.

how awful and your poor little dog
hope she pulls through and you both recover from this.
that man should at the very least be paying all costs associated with her treatment

SirVixofVixHall · 10/07/2022 14:45

Everything crossed for your little dog OP.
Did you get any details of the other dog’s owner ?

ElegantlyTouched · 10/07/2022 14:45

How awful! Paws crossed she comes through this ok. At least the owner seems decent.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 10/07/2022 14:47

This is utterly horrific, you must be in complete shock, what a terrifying thing to happen, I really hope your dog pulls through, I’m so sorry you and your dog are going through this, I hope someone is looking after you?

BiteyShark · 10/07/2022 14:47

It's good that the owner has taken full responsibility and also helped you in the aftermath although that won't lesson the terror that you both went through Flowers

Whitney168 · 10/07/2022 14:47

Well, flawless response by him at least. Let's hope he learns from it and doesn't let it happen to anyone else and their poor dog.

PetersRabbitt · 10/07/2022 14:49

That is awful but atleast the bloke is being decent, most of them do a runner making the whole thing even worse!!

Hope your pup is better soon!

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/07/2022 14:56

Couldn't fault the behaviour of the owner in how he dealt with situation after the attack. I have all details and he has mine. He was kind to me, assisting me in and out of his vehicle, fetching a seat for me at vets etc.

He has 8 dogs. I have previously seen him in the distance (once spotted I have always chosen to take a different route) walking 4, all off lead, black and brindled. Big buggers. Bull Mastiffs (3), Dogue de Bordeaux (3) and Labrador (2).

Thinking of your wee dog OP. I have two small dogs of my own and one of them had an accident a month ago (not involving another dog though) so I know how awful the waiting for news is. In a way you just want to know even if it is bad news so you can start to process it. I have everything crossed for good news. Little dogs are stronger than we give them credit for.

At least the owner was decent enough, I'm sure he feels awful and I hope he never lets his dog off the lead again and out without a muzzle.

NellesVilla · 10/07/2022 15:06

So sorry, OP 💐

Hope your little girlie is ok and you too.
Take care of yourself and have a quiet, peaceful day.

Please keep us updated and I’m sure she’s receiving the best care x

pilates · 10/07/2022 15:08

How awful for you op, I hope she will be ok. 😞 My puppy, who was on a lead at the time, was about to be attacked by a bull mastiff who broke his link chain. I was with my son and he stepped in and managed to pick him up. It was a very scary situation and traumatised both of us. He’s now quite reactive on his lead. At least the owner has done the honourable thing and paid for the treatment they normally run off.
