My mini poodle attacked by Bull Mastiff

I'm sitting in my home waiting to hear from the vet how my little mini poodle is😢

Walking in our local woods this morning, as we do every morning, she's pootling about sniffing etc when this bloody great dog came charging out from a side path...off lead...no owner...and just full on attacked her.

She's screaming, the big dog is biting her...suddenly 2 more big dogs😱 also charging towards us followed by man.

The man jumps on the dog and managed to drag it off...my little girl is bloody and crying, lying there...the other dogs are circling. I was feckin terrified. This has all happened so fast.

Now waiting. Just need to tell someone as she is my only family now.😭

The vet said to call if they hadn't contacted me by 4pm. About to do so.

I'm not a dog owner but would love one. That sounds awful.
Are they an illegal breed?

LINABE · 10/07/2022 16:02

Oh I'm so terribly sorry to read this, you poor darling and your poor little one. I'm praying for some good news for your precious sweetheart xx

Glenthebattleostrich · 10/07/2022 16:02

My little poo was attacked when she was 11 months old by a husky x malamut. It was her second off lead walk after breaking her leg.

It's absolutely bloody terrifying and the owner still tries to have a go if he sees me cos apparently it's not fair his dog has to be muzzled in public (mine wasn't the only dog it has attacked).

Moo was fine after a night at the vets and some stitches but is still scared of big dogs after it

Your girl is gorgeous and I hope you hear from the vet soon.

minesalargered · 10/07/2022 16:03

Sending you much good will.

My Spaniel was attacked a few years ago, ironically by another Spaniel. He had to have most of this ride side stitched up.

It hasn't changed him at all, he's still the same friendly, calm and happy dog that he always way. Hoping the same for you.

Let us know how you get one with the vet.

Pawtucketbrew · 10/07/2022 16:15

From another small dog owner sending you much love. My dog was attacked recently by another small dog, thankfully she was fine. Just shook up but hearing her cry was awful. I dread to think what would have happened had it been a big dog.

I walk my dog off the lead but she has very good recall and I never let her out of my sight. I don't think anyone should let their dogs roam so far they can't catch up and grab them quickly - sorry probably unpopular opinion but no dog is 100%

crowsfeet57 · 10/07/2022 16:16

Hope your girl makes a full recovery. She is really cute.

We have a giant breed dog, he is gentle but very poor at recall and owners and dogs are often nervous when he runs towards them. For that reason we do not walk him off lead.

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/07/2022 16:18

I phoned. Vet is attending to my little dog at the moment...they have had a busy day...will call me as soon as news.

Getting on my rebounder...too much nervous adrenaline...too stressed 😖...mind you not sure watching YouTube clips of Tory party leader wannabees being questioned will help😆

LightSpeeds · 10/07/2022 16:38

Thinking of you and your little girl... x

caramac04 · 10/07/2022 16:43

Hope your wee dog is ok and is soon home and back to normal. If my dog attacked another I would feel sick to my stomach. The owner seems to be decent and hopefully he will muzzle his dog in future. I would in that situation unless I thought more drastic measures were necessary.
looking forward to hearing a positive update.

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/07/2022 16:43

I can't settle, but can't get anything done either.

When I got home (owner waited with me at vets, then drove me back to woods and my car) I went to change and shower. Her blood had soaked through to my skin, through tunic, bra even jeans. So much blood I was shocked. I called vet to let them know she had lost more than originally visible on her and me. They had already put her on fluids thankfully.

"No news is good news" is what my mum always said. Hope she was right.

You poor thing. How traumatic for you all. Sending healing vibes to your lovely girl.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 10/07/2022 17:06

Hopefully you get some news soon.

I've found that sometimes dog wounds bleed a LOT but it often looks worse than it is. My own dog has been attacked and it was like a bloodbath, but once he was cleaned up, the actual wound was surprisingly small.

DaysLikeThis1 · 10/07/2022 17:32

What a horrendous experience no wonder you are so shaken by it. Really hoping you get good news about your little dog soon. Flowers
