My mini poodle attacked by Bull Mastiff

I'm sitting in my home waiting to hear from the vet how my little mini poodle is😢

Walking in our local woods this morning, as we do every morning, she's pootling about sniffing etc when this bloody great dog came charging out from a side path...off lead...no owner...and just full on attacked her.

She's screaming, the big dog is biting her...suddenly 2 more big dogs😱 also charging towards us followed by man.

The man jumps on the dog and managed to drag it off...my little girl is bloody and crying, lying there...the other dogs are circling. I was feckin terrified. This has all happened so fast.

Now waiting. Just need to tell someone as she is my only family now.😭

How terrifying. Hopefully she'll have a good rest tonight and you'll have good news in the morning.

RhannionKPSS · 10/07/2022 22:17

I hope you both get rest tonight and your wee sweetheart is better tomorrow. Sending you & her hugs.

allboysherebutme · 10/07/2022 22:20

Aww bless you, this happened to my little boy, when my sister was looking after him, he recovered after eight weeks and it look him a lot longer to trust again.
His was by the same breed. X

LINABE · 10/07/2022 22:25

Try to rest tonight and wishing you all the best with news of your little one tomorrow, she sounds so adorable. xx

minmooch · 10/07/2022 22:28

I would report this to the police as the owner needs to have the dog assessed. If it is not safe to be out then it should be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Had it attacked a small child it would be out to sleep immediately.

I hope your dog recovers quickly.

Frequency · 10/07/2022 22:32

The police won't act for dog on dog attacks. It's not a crime. The owner of the other dog sounds like a decent bloke. He helped OP, he's taken responsiblity and he's assured OP he will take steps to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Dog aggressive does not mean child aggressive.

OP, try and get some sleep and fingers crossed for good news for your lovely pup in the morning.

RandomMess · 10/07/2022 22:34

Where we live the dog warden would take action and would issue restrictive measures on the attacking dog/owner.

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 10/07/2022 22:34

Glad you had support op.. Even if it was from the owner. Sounds like a responsible owner and a very unfortunate incident.. We have 4 ddogs and 1 - a Husky - struggles to see fluffy white ddogs as ddogs. She acts like when she sees our dcat!! She looks puzzled and wants to stand on them(to lick and groom) . She shows absolutely no interest in any sort ddog. Maybe a case of similar mistaken identity... Hope your ddoggy recovers well op. What an awful day you have had..

HobnobsChoice · 10/07/2022 22:44

We had a mini poodle when I was a child who was badly attacked on my birthday after he escaped the garden. He was dumped back by the dog owner and we found him and had to dash to the vets, all before my 10th birthday. He was quite poorly but pulled through after surgery and was still a very happy and very loved dog when I left for uni 8 years later. We used to say he was really a cat as we had rescued him as a stray and got him through serious illness as well as the dog attack. Poodles are such lovely dogs, I hope your girl is recovering well. She must have felt very reassured by having you carrying her and knowing you were right there with her.

longcoffeebreak · 10/07/2022 22:51

Argh this is awful to read @onedayiwillmissthis
I have two apricot mini poodles
So hope she has a good night - and you

Northernlurker · 10/07/2022 22:57

The owner does sound like a reasonable person who's just had something awful and unpredictable happen. As long as he covers the bill and ensures this dog can't do this again he will have done everything he should. Contacting the police wouldn't advance matters.

Handmaid2019 · 10/07/2022 23:09

Aww you're poor beautiful girl

Handmaid2019 · 10/07/2022 23:10

NiceTwin · 11/07/2022 06:10

Hope you get your girl home soon and that she heals well with no mental scars.

Must have been terrifying for you both.
Good to hear the owner has stepped up to his responsibility and not done a runner as you so often hear.

pilates · 11/07/2022 06:17

Thanks for the update.
Hope she has a speedy recovery and in the meantime I would report to police and dog warden. Although they might not do anything it would make me feel better.
