My mini poodle attacked by Bull Mastiff

I'm sitting in my home waiting to hear from the vet how my little mini poodle is😢

Walking in our local woods this morning, as we do every morning, she's pootling about sniffing etc when this bloody great dog came charging out from a side path...off lead...no owner...and just full on attacked her.

She's screaming, the big dog is biting her...suddenly 2 more big dogs😱 also charging towards us followed by man.

The man jumps on the dog and managed to drag it off...my little girl is bloody and crying, lying there...the other dogs are circling. I was feckin terrified. This has all happened so fast.

Now waiting. Just need to tell someone as she is my only family now.😭

What a nightmare for you and your poor little dog. Glad the owner was decent about it though but he needs to be more responsible if his dogs are capable of this. Please update us on your pooch. Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery for her and make sure you look after yourself - it must have been terrifying for you 💐

Wonder if he’s a dog walker rather than those all being his own dogs? I agree that was a good response after the event but it would have been so much better to prevent it in the first place. Best wishes to your little dog.

He told me that he won't walk that particular dog anymore.

Bull Mastiffs and Dogue de Boudreaux are seriously powerful breeds. No one should walking that number of them off lead, it’s a recipe for disaster.

The man sounds like he did a lot to help in the aftermath but should be able to control his dogs so that things like this don’t happen.

That's horrendous but I think his behaviour afterwards shows he's not a bad person.

A little dog near us was killed by a pack of lurchers recently - it's so scary to see the damage dogs can do 😞.

Aww, bless her. I hope you sill both be ok. As the owner of a large powerful dog, why the hell has he got his dogs off lead, with no recall. This is contrary to the control of dogs act as the dog is clearly dangerously out of control. Ridiculous to have so many large breed dogs running off lead. Even with one large breed i would not allow it. His dogs should be under control at all times, he should at least be spoken to by authorities.

Agreed , I've had 4 Bullmastiffs and never a problem but 8 big dogs is asking for trouble. Bullmastiffs don't come in black though so not sure it is a BM , not really the point though , the owner was faultless but doesn't detract from your poor girls experience, wishing her a speedy recovery .

Oh god, OP - that sounds absolutely horrendous, what a shock for you both I hope you get good news from the vet and that she (and you) gets better soon. I know it’s of little comfort at the moment but he does sound like a responsible owner - hopefully he’s had a massive fright too and will adjust his dog walking accordingly so that it never happens again.

I think the black were the labs, but to be honest, I never previously got close to them...always just saw 3-4 bloody big dogs off lead in distance with a bloke...and kept a very long way from them.

Only ever saw him with 4 max at a time. But as they were off lead I just never felt comfortable with relying on him having control if one or more misbehaved.

My little dog only weighs 6kg. Snack size

The one that attacked today was a brindle bitch. The other two? Just a blur/can't recall...fear does that I guess😳

Sending lots of love. My dog was attacked when she was a puppy 6 years ago and it is the most frightening experience. Don't be afraid to ring the vets if you have not heard from them - they won't mind a follow up call.
