I was thinking about some tv shows I loved but realise that I hated the main characters in! My initial list is:

OITNB- I didn’t always hate Piper but I definitely did at times throughout!

Breaking Bad- hate Walter so much.

This Is England- I class Shaun as the main character and can’t stand him.

What about you?

My one criticism of Succession was there needed to be more of Harriet Walter’s character

kendall roy was a complete ass, and expected the top position at the end of the series, he didnt even have the balls or strategy to pull the coup its like someone told him he should be god and he believe it

I’ve always thought that Gavin and Stacey were the most boring people in Gavin and Stacey. Selfish individuals.

That whole show was a lesson in how not to do comedy. The whole thing was awful I was disappointed cos i love Ruth Jones. But I have rarely hated a show more, my husband loved it.

Oh and another one is Sarah Braverman from the Parenthood. Hate how she runs back to Seth any time he reappears 😩

Actually, I found pretty much every Braverman family member fairly annoying in their own way. They were way too much in each others business and completely self-absorbed. The ones that married into the drama, slightly less so.

Stacey in Gavin and Stacey
Eve in Killing Eve
Cristina in Grey’s Anatomy (maybe I just dislike Sandra Oh..)
Daphne in Bridgerton

Yes, his fatal flaw is basically cowardice, coupled with his sense of entitlement and having been given everything his whole life.
Toxic. He’s a genuinely tragic figure, IMO.

It was a fantastic ending for him. He didn’t get what he wanted.

Love Modern Family, hate Phil Dunphy. Think he is supposed to be a lovable goofball but is really an extremely annoying man-child.

I do have to wonder/worry what would happen to him. He’s vile, yes, but also very fragile and self-destructive.

Motherland. Hated Julia. She was a perfect example of piss poor planning, put up with too much shit from her husband and was awful to her mother. She was a massive, lazy stereotype and did a huge disservice to working mums.

All the Motherland characters were pretty stereotyped, but Julia was the worst.

RedRiverShore6 · 21/06/2026 11:30

Beth in Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch, absolutely terrible, I think she keeps trying to look sultry or something but just looks like she has something wrong with her mouth.

I'm still watching and dislike Sarah even more now that she decided to have a baby with Mark after being with him for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, her kids are the most troubled on the show as she was always too busy with her boyfriends instead of actually supporting and parenting her kids.

Gardenflowering · 21/06/2026 13:40

Landman. The ex wife and daughter. Terrible terrible characters and story lines. Ruined it so I couldn’t watch any more.

I actually had a stupid argument with my sister over him and Claire. I said I felt sorry for him putting up with Claire but she said she felt sorry for Claire for putting up with him! They were a terrible combination. Her controlling interfering ways with her kids was just awful IMO. To be fair they are a great pair of actors.

lets assume he was given the top position he would not last 5 mins with the sharks, so to speak

No, definitely not. Imagine him with Lukas Matsson? He’d get eaten alive. And his huge but fragile ego wouldn’t be able to take it.

Somnambule · 22/06/2026 08:00

This has probably already been said, but Dawson's Creek. Dawson is an absolute twat.

Not a TV show but a film.. loved for weddings and a funeral but can't stand andie mcdowell

Same! It made no sense that everybody loved her, she had no presence or personality at all, and no chemistry with High Grant I thought it was a really odd bit of casting

TheGoddessFrigg · 22/06/2026 08:18

Syd in The Bear. She annoyed me so much I had to stop watching. So smug and written to be basically perfect and always right. And her verbal tics are so wearing

Kingsleadhat · 22/06/2026 08:21

Mabel in only Murders in the Building. Apparently the monotone delivery is meant to be deadpan but I find her really irritating and can't catch half of what she says

Princejoffyjaffur · 22/06/2026 08:29

I love Friends. I really dislied Phoebe

He is all of these things but he has me literally crying with laughter at some of the things he says

Corryvreckan · 20/06/2026 07:30

And bloody Rory.

In the GG updates Rory was such a disappointment! So much hooha about how amazingly clever and womderful she was and she turns out to be a bit of a loser, no home of her own, having an affair with her now-engaged former boyfriend Logan, can't remember her work situation but they had all fawned over her, treating her as though she was destined for great things!

RedFluffyElephant · 22/06/2026 09:13

Gavin and Stacey; can't stand them in the show. Nessa and Smithy were the best characters.

I don't mind her personality, but I agree about the verbal tics. It seemed like great acting for a bit but then got samey.
