Which tv shows that you loved did you hate the main character?

I was thinking about some tv shows I loved but realise that I hated the main characters in! My initial list is:

OITNB- I didn’t always hate Piper but I definitely did at times throughout!

Breaking Bad- hate Walter so much.

This Is England- I class Shaun as the main character and can’t stand him.

What about you?

Loved Industry. Loathed most of the characters but it was compelling.
Really enjoyed The Responder but can’t stand Martin Freeman.
As for Adolescence - I can’t stand Stephen Graham. I just don’t get it at all. I liked him in Boardwalk Empire and that was it.
The Diplomat - I absolutely love it and I do really like Keri Russell but can’t be doing with the ticks, the greasy hair and sweaty armpits.

To add I really liked Broadchurch but Olivia Colman does my head in. I’m sure she thinks very highly of me! 🤣
Just watching the new Nicola Walker show on Disney, Alice & Steve. Loved her in Last Tango and The Spilt but she’s packing so many of her signature mannerisms in I’ve switched it off.

I looked it up as I've never heard of it. Do you mean Billy Bob Thornton? I love him as an actor

Dawn in the UK Office got on my nerves, right up until THAT scene with Tim! I just don't think the character was interesting at all, or maybe the actress just was a bit wooden.

I agree, I can't stand her in anything. All those weird mouth movements and vacant staring.

I hated Rebecca too. What a boring mingebag and the wrong character to end the series focusing on. Poor Miguel.

I also hated Rory in Gilmore Girls and Andy out of The Office who was a decent background character but an awful main.

I think Olivia Colman and Nicola Walker are quite similar in that you see them in one production and think they're great. Then you slowly discover that that's 'it' for them and they basically play the same character in everything they're cast in!

Yes. I never really got the love for Nicola Walker. Especially in The Split. He was good looking.

The Sopranos.

Even if we ignore the violence (it is a show about gangsters) Tony Sporano is a bigoted, racist, mysogenist who is violent to numerous women including his wife. Frankly there are almost no likeable characters in that show, yet it is brilliant TV.

Youngsters. Sme of us remember the constant screaming that was Bonnie Langford's portrayal of Mel. There were many angry letters written to Points of View and the Radio Times I can tell you.

I'm 65 and I well remember the Bonnie Langford fiasco. But Amy Pond was WORSE! Her treatment of Rory was heartbreaking.

Sex and the City. Carrie was so vacuous.

Ted in How I Met Your Mother. He was a useless colossal idiot.

I was basically watching it because Lily's hair was amazing. Marshall and Lily were way better than bloody Ted.

Yellowstone. HATED Beth and Rip.

Suits, I watched that whole show for Louis Litt and Louis Litt only. 😆I absolutely loathed almost every other character

I was going to say Greys, because I didn't like Meredith (poor George!)... but yes, Derek was a bellend too.

Yes! I loved poldark so much but he was so awful at times.

Agree with piper in oitnb it made me stop watching.

and lorelai drove me nuts.

Oh yes Beth. Had to stop watching

I cheered when she finally got killed off 🤣

I didn’t really hate him but Angel was my least favourite member of the main gang in Angel.

Oh and I only watched the first series or two of Virgin River but that nosy cow who had to interfere in absolutely everything. Hope was her name.

Absolutely agree about James Nesbitt. Last thing I watched with him in (can't for the life of me recall the name) he had the grand total of two expressions.

Stacey from Gavin and Stacey. Spoilt, narrow minded and a bit thick. Awful combination
