This thread was requested on my previous thread ("How to watch The Pitt") so here goes.
What did you think? Favourite character? Better than ER?

I will start.
I LOVED it. I loved ER but really it was very soap opera and The Pitt seemed more realistic.
The "real time" concept was good. You gradually get to know the characters (although I can't remember half the names) and when you are several episodes in you forget that some of them had never met each other before just a few hours ago.
Dr Robby I'm a bit "meh" on. He clearly has trauma but when he launched into yet another big motivational speech I could feel his co workers silently rolling their eyes.
I liked the male med student (Whittaker?).
Looked like a terrified bunny but when he caught the rat and you heard it's neck snap.... that was funny and gross.
The younger med student (the genius one) - when she finally snapped back at her mother. I was like "go girl".
I liked how the department was more modern with all the tech - yet was clearly an old building with the brick columns and old solid staircase.
It's going to be such a long wait until we get to see season 2 😭

Just finished it this evening. LOVED it - it's probably the best thing I've watched this year. I liked how the characters were getting to know each other at the same time that we were, rather than being presented as an existing group. Really liked Whittaker and Mel (who is clearly on the spectrum herself as well as caring for her autistic sister, but I'm glad they didn't over-egg it too much). I predicted the shooting as soon as the festival tickets were mentioned but I thought the son with the list was going to be the gunman. I can't compare it to ER because I haven't seen it but it was definitely better than the last few series of Grey's Anatomy. If they stick to the real-time single-shift format, which I hope they do, it will hopefully keep more of a medical focus without too much of the soapy who's-shagging-who backstory from the characters' outside lives - bit like old-school Casualty before the patients became glorified wallpaper!

Needmorelego · 30/08/2025 12:58

Happy to hear you liked it 🙂
Unfortunately by the time I got to actually watch it I had seen so many clips and read articles I knew some of what was going to happen.
So I knew about the mass shooting although I didn't know who the shooter was going to be.
At one point I thought it was going to be the angry bloke who punched the Charge Nurse (his way of actually getting seen by a doctor?).
I knew about the stolen meds too.
I would really love to know exactly what Cassie (?) did to have to wear the ankle tag. I wanted to slap her ex's smug girlfriend though 😂
I've already seen a trailer for season 2 so I don't think I'm going to be able to avoid spoilers.
I don't mind though. It was still awesome even though I knew what was coming.

Ooh, that big punchy bloke being the shooter would have been a good twist! I hadn't thought of that. I managed to avoid spoilers entirely, thankfully!!

spiderlight · 02/09/2025 14:37

I've just learned from Reddit that Mel is played by the daughter of Bryan Cranston (Walt in Breaking Bad) - I can see the resemblance now that I know!

I'm not sure how to link but I think I called it "How to watch The Pitt".
It's in Telly Addicts same as this one 🙂

Joining in. I have just finished. I thought it was the best tele I have seen in a long long time. Something reassuring about Noah Wylie in his role from his ER days but completely different too. DH isn’t into box sets but even he watched it and exclaimed how on earth do they remember the lines!

For anyone waiting for UK TV release you are in for a treat. It’s brilliant.

Needmorelego · 20/09/2025 09:02

@waltercrimble apparently back in the early ER days George Clooney couldn't remember all the medical speak so he would have it written down but out of shot.
If you watch old episodes it does seem like he is looking down a lot like he is reading from something 😂😂
(I don't know how true that story is)

Considering all the awards it's just won it's crazy that it's not being shown on UK telly.

It will probably come round eventually on one of the UK streaming services or one of the paid Sky channels. I'm glad I spent money to watch it though - it was so, so good. Can't wait for the next series. I wonder if it will be the next day.

I kind of want to watch ER now. I don't know why I've never watched it because I'm a sucker for a medical drama. Will it be horribly dated now?

Needmorelego · 20/09/2025 15:23

@spiderlight some of the early ER episodes seem really dated.
For example they use the R word (for learning disabilities) as a standard medical word.
Apparently Sky are planning to launch MAX next year and are saving The Pitt until then.
Bit daft of them if you ask me.

Ok Pitt fans....if you are managing to watch season 2 we are on episode 3.
I was up at 7am to watch 😂
Episode 3 was a bit slow.
Not enough Huckleberry and we didn't see the baby once 😭
I had to Google what had happened at the Synagogue that Robby's patient was talking about (it was an actual real life incident).
So Dr McKay's slightly weird patient has a brain tumour which is why he was acting odd but now I am more worried about the old guy who keeps flirting with her - he is giving me a creepy vibe.
Dr Robby...."I always wear a helmet" oh no you don't you fibber.
Only a week until episode 4....

Thanks for this thread. Placemarking for when I've watched ep 3.

scaredysquiggle · 23/01/2026 10:39

Watching E3 after work. Cannot wait

spiderlight · 24/01/2026 14:22

I was horrified at the lack of the helmet at the start of episode 1. Surely an emergency doctor of all people would know how vital it is to wear one??

There's obviously some reason..... something PTSD related. Doesn't care about himself maybe?
The doctor who was using a wheelchair said something about "I wanted to talk to you before you leave".
Is that doctor using a wheelchair due to a motorcycle accident? Does he want to make sure Robby isn't being deliberately reckless.
The plot thickens........🏍️

Noah Wyle is 54 apparently 🙂
I loved that patients response. Essentially "don't do something so ridiculous" 😂

'She turned my sabbatical into a mid-life crisis'

She wasn't wrong.

Maerchentante · 24/01/2026 20:38

Living in Germany, HBO Max was released here last week on Thursday - by Saturday I had seen all available episoded of The Pitt - result of being signed off sick after slipping on ice and injuring myself.
Love it - feels the most realistic medical show since ER. The wait for the next episode is a bit of torture. Came home from work on Thursday thinking the new episode had dropped - of course I was wrong.

Just a gut feeling: I think Robbies's replacement knows something about the baby, her reaction was a bit too "spaced out" for the want of a better expression. Next week, I feel, sh!t might hit the fan after that cliff hanger.
