The issue with pen and paper is that many Deaf people who have ASL as their primary language have poor English literacy, since phonics mean nothing to them. Did you notice that she didn’t understand the CT scan and santos misunderstood what she was asking? This is why it can be an ADA violation to rely on paper instead of an interpreter. There’s going to be a mistake in her care. They need to find someone who is fluent in ASL.

Dr. Al-Hashimi called a neurologist. Something is going on with her. It looked like an absence seizure to me, but I’m not a doctor.

@knitnerd90 - thank you for explaining that. It had genuinely never occurred to me about Deaf people having issues with literacy and phonics, but it makes so much sense now you've said it.

Oh my this was an awesome episode.
Back to the old skool ER days.
Big giant white board, paper charts, chart racks, ye olde fax machine, actual landline phone ringing....
Poor Huckleberry - his photo didn't work.
Yay to Joy for having a creepy memory.
The whole department started to seem busier and noiser. If you watch early ER episodes there always just seems to be so many people just cluttering around. This so reminded me of that (especially right at the end with Robby and Dana just staring at the chaos).
I loved how so much just didn't seem obvious to the younger staff - like using a felt tip pen to fill out triplicate forms 😂
I still have worries for the deaf lady. I think she might come back later.
Someone needs to slap Oglivie. Unfortunately he's so tall they'd need to stand on a ladder.

Yes, I concur re deaf lady - Santos was a bit too quick to be relieved she hadn't ordered the other tests and that injection possibly hurt a little too much. Perhaps Langdon will save the day and she'll lay off him a bit.

The reaction of the young 'uns to the fax machine whirring and Dana saying "it's just aliens" was hilarious.

That was a very full episode! 'Is this how you did it in the 1900s?' was a bit galling!! 😭😂

The deaf lady will definitely come back somehow. I felt sorry for that very big guy when Ogilvie was asking him about Mounjaro and exercise. So many assumptions!

I don’t think that Deaf woman is done with either. Santos was too happy about avoiding the CT.

would like to slap Ogilvie. That was a good bit of writing about what fat people face from doctors. I like how McKay pushed back. She has a lot more people smarts.

There are still ominous signs about Dr. Robby upcoming trip. Why did the mechanic friend not show up ? Fourth of July casualty maybe . Will this make bike unsafe . Found the lime and sunshine guy fascinating but wondering if it is because it spills on you . And what about the baby ??

So I managed to watch the episode on Friday morning before setting off for my weekend away.

Yes to Santos being a bit too quick to "dismiss" the deaf lady.
Also, I would not be surprised if it emerged that there are errors on the board created from Joy's memory. Likewise I can see things going wrong with the "ancient" methods used during the computer shut down. I mean anyone who's ever used faxes will know it only takes as much as putting the wrong side up for things to go wrong.
PS Ancient is meant in jest - I used faxes until about three years ago and used type writers for customs forms until about twenty years ago

Episode 8....so much going on that I need to re watch it to remember it all.

I may have screamed "arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh omg" far to loud for watching this at 6 o'clock in the morning when they handed Oglivie the leg !
And then he stands there cradling it like a baby.
