For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

I watched it as it was going out on rte but they were hopeless at advertising when it was a new season coming out , meaning I'd accidentally come across it and have missed the first episode. If you can get the rte player where you are all seasons of the good fight are on it

It looks like it's not available in the UK without a VPN, the 2 series are available to buy on Prime so may appear for free eventually. It's a fairly old series now so not quite sure why Amazon charge for it.

The Capture.
Dark.
Slow Horses.
Foundation.
3 Body Problem.
Extrapolations.
Bad Sisters.
Kin.
Derry Girls.
Severance.
Secrets We Keep which is new on Netflix. Just binge watched it.

I love Scandi stuff but not enjoying Secrets We Keep thus far. I think it might be all the botox on the main actress and possibly the sex plots which aren't my cup of tea. Hopefully it improves? Three episodes in.

I liked the German programme, Dear Child recently. After what I said about sex, oddly I quite like Knokke Off ( can't remember the English title!) .

In case anyone else wanted to know Dark Winds is actually NOW TV / Sky not Netflix as has been stated. Dark is on Netflix possibly causing some confusion

I watched two series of magnum. The other six series I have to buy. It's annoying for a 40 year old series.

Happy Valley and Line of Duty. Both first series are older than five years

I really enjoyed Monsters The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, 1883, This City is Ours, A Thousand Blows and American Primeval

HRTQueen · 25/05/2025 15:44

Bad Sisters series 1 was great too

Ludwig
A Spy Among Friends
Miss Austen

Miss Austen was good.

I also like the Parisian Agency for something a bit different.

Wisting (Norwegian) is excellent but it can be tricky to find it

GeorgeSmiley1969 · 26/05/2025 12:07

Undercover/Ferry on Netflix

ohyesido · 26/05/2025 12:12

Modern Family.

Surprisingly, Bob’s Burgers. If you have rejected that because of the crude animation, persevere with it I promise it’s worth it

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 26/05/2025 14:05

The Last Kingdom, Netflix. It’s actually the best series I’ve ever watched

I really enjoy The Parisian Agency too. I find it inexplicably soothing after a fraught and long day at work. I feel like they're trying to ramp up the drama with an eye to things like Selling Sunset, but they're basically all too nice and too civilised for it to work!
I do think some of the super-high-end houses, especially the ones overseas, are getting a bit silly though. I like it best when they find somewhere beautiful but quirky in Paris itself.

Yes I agree. And if they really let this Alex guy muscle in I will be most disappointed!

But it’s an interesting and easy to watch formula switching between family developments and real estate and family life, and gives a good insight into how family business is never really “off the clock.”

I don't feel like Alex is in it very much at the moment. I don't know if they've quietly sidelined him having realised that it changes the vibe a bit. I suspect they brought him in just to manufacture some drama, and it felt a bit flat.

I really love how the grandmother always has another jaw-dropping story of her youth, whatever the situation!

And I think it's genuinely fascinating how they intersperse film of the sons showing clients round the houses with their own commentary on how they're doing, what tactics they're deciding to use as they go round etc.

I wouldn’t say no to Alexander Dreymon although am far too old!

beetr00 · 28/05/2025 21:16

@justasking111

that's annoying. I wonder if it's because I use *whispers, an adblocker?

Sorry it wasn't useful though.

I’m far too old too, but he is gorgeous, and that voice 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

He has to be Uhtred though, the modern clean cut, clean shaven doesn’t do it for me.

Life On Mars/Ashes to Ashes (the latter the best ending to a TV series ever imo)

Manifest

OMG! I so agree with you on the ending on Ashes to Ashes! BEST EVER ENDING EVER!!
