What’s the best TV Series you’ve watched in the last 5 years?

For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

Mr Bates and The Post Office - I’m still shocked and angry by the whole situation those poor people found themselves in

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:09

You know, I still haven’t seen that, must get around to it.

Lucifer
Unforgotten

Florally · 10/05/2025 21:16

The Handmaids Tale I think has just consistently blown me away.

Waggytail · 10/05/2025 21:17

Probably Succession, though I still don't think I'd watch it twice.

IKillUnkillablePlants · 10/05/2025 21:17

Think either Slow Horses or Severance, but have enjoyed lots of others too, The Handmaids Tale, Yellowjackets and Squid Game are a few that spring to mind.

You've just reminded me I need to keep watching Dark, I watched the first season then stopped!

fatgirlswims · 10/05/2025 21:18

Queens Gambit I think

Ohwhatakerfuffle · 10/05/2025 21:19

This city is ours, iPlayer

The one about the police service in Belfast but I can't remember its name.

Gangs of London was good.

Bad Sisters.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:20

@Florally The thing about The Handmaids Tale is that in all the terrible things that happen so consistently as to normalise them, there’s that ONE episode that just goes that bit too far and because of it I doubt I could face a rewatch as good as the show is.

Kattovitpanic · 10/05/2025 21:21

Succession. Absolutely loved it. I can usually take or leave TV, there are a few series which I’ve loved like The West Wing, and for me Succession was right up there.

WaffleParty · 10/05/2025 21:22

Succession. Hands down.

Severance is also brilliant.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:22

@Ohwhatakerfuffle LOVED this - House Of Bamboo!

@GretaGip You mean Blue Lights which is excellent

Succession and Kin

onwardandupwards · 10/05/2025 21:25

Ozark and currently rewatching The Tudors!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:25

@WaffleParty I gave Severance a go and couldn’t get my head around it

@Kattovitpanic I gave Succession a few episodes but it didn’t grab me, is there a settling in period? Because I LOVE West Wing, seen it at least 4 times

Succession. I think it's the best drama of any type I have ever seen. TV, film or theatre.

CrossPurposes · 10/05/2025 21:27

Babylon Berlin and Undone.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:28

@onwardandupwards Oh the Tudors so bad its good

It is a bit of a slow burner. I couldn’t understand the love for it as first, hated all the characters, couldn’t see the point. Maybe give it a couple more episodes? It was infuriating at times but also laugh out loud funny, and the closest thing to Shakespearean tragedy I’ve seen on TV on occasion. I’m with you on the rewatching of West Wing, it doesn’t date for me. If you haven’t watched House MD you might want to give that a try as well, that has dated more but a couple of series are really excellent.

Fleabag (although possibly not within the five-year timeframe).

LobeliaBaggins · 10/05/2025 21:30
