For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

I absolutely loved Disclaimer on Apple. I couldn’t watch anything else for days after I finished it.

@Kattovitpanic watched House as it aired back in the days of DVD Boxset. I do think WW HAS dated SLIGHTLY in terms of how the women are spoken to and about and also obviously with some social issues such as gay rights. I still love it though.

My Brilliant Friend

I loved this. Almost ready for a rewatch - though in a way it was quite plot-heavy which will make it less compelling. But I loved it.

I also liked that short series with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman. He’s having an affair with a mum in their son’s class. I forget the name. I thought both he and Kidman were brilliant in it.

Haven’t heard of this, can you tell me more?

The Detectorists. It’s amazing, the writing, the acting, the soundtrack. I wish I could go back and watch it for the first time again, it’s beautiful.

Andor (might be influenced by the fact I'm eagerly awaiting the last three episodes) but I am blown away by it.

Also The last of us, squid game, the boys, yellow jackets

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:35

@marmitegirl01 Paradise is DEFINITELY the best thing I’ve seen this year

The Boys, Yellowjackets, Criminal Minds (technically still last 5 years as they did the evolution reboot)

LadyWhitwell · 10/05/2025 21:36

Outlander. I have watched the first 3 seasons over 10 times.

Fellow Travelers on Paramount +

I loved this!

WingBingo · 10/05/2025 21:38

Succession!

Rumpoleoftheballet · 10/05/2025 21:38

Ted Lasso.

LoneRangecooker · 10/05/2025 21:38

I liked Dark, but I found the episode that ended series two really annoying so didn’t carry on. Maybe I should give it another go. I think it was a bit Twin Peaks meets Stranger Things (but I don’t like ST, too violent for me these days).

Chernobyl was exquisite. Apart from Mad Men and the Sopranos (both old now), TV doesn’t get any better than that.

I thought The English with Emily Blunt was pretty damn good.

And as another PP said up thread, My Brilliant Friend. That was also spectacular. Stunning.

In the last 5 days... The Mantis, streaming on Channel 4 Walter Presents. It probably needs trigger warnings but they'd give the game away, so just brace yourselves.

It's a French murder thing with lots of twists.

BoredZelda · 10/05/2025 21:39

Working moms. Very funny.

Currently re-watching This Is Us.

I did love succession too, but to be honest, there is some great drama out there, pretty much any of them on BBC or iPlayer is worth a watch.

Ted Lasso.

Is this available on streaming anywhere at the moment?

Yiayoula · 10/05/2025 21:40

Happy Valley.

MrsWilbertonsWardrobe · 10/05/2025 21:41

I echo the Bear, series 1 and 2. Utterly brilliant. Andor, because it’s Star Wars for grownups. And the absolute top of all: Slow Horses.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/05/2025 21:41

@LoneRangecooker Definitely give Dark another try, the ending does pay off

The Ozarks, The Bridge, Breaking Bad and House of Cards, Line of Duty. Not sure they're in the 5 year time frame though
