Oddly, Miranda looks like Miranda Hart!

I’m on episode 4, I’m not enjoying it and finding it a bit rubbish but my husband and I are bored. 🥱 he seems to be watching it with a little more interest than me.

really hate the mothers character….shes a piece of work.
really find Ember smug and one dimensional. Not sure if it’s the character or jenna Coleman but god I dislike her. Total know it all with zero likeable qualities.
why is ember telling everyone confidential police intel?
the daughter is also horrible
all the characters seem horrible and unlikeable so im not rooting for anyone.
Everyone of the characters seems to hate each other so much is silly.

I only watched one episode as I found Jenna Coleman really annoying, not sure why. It didn't grab me at all, very formulaic.

Freysimo · 22/07/2024 08:31

And the unnecessary sex scenes, especially the horse one.

purpleme12 · 22/07/2024 21:34

Bit baffling why that forensic person wasn't wearing gloves when going through Riz's things

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2024 22:14

Oh. Wow. So wasn't Mack. And he did it to save her as he loved her

I knew friend ajl was dodgy

I watched all 4 episodes ( it was a rainy day)
JC uses exhaling in lieu of actual acting
The story is straight out of The top of the lake and others ( dodgy men get drunk girls pregnant etc and don’t give a shit)
Some of the forensics dont add up
Amelia B was wasted in this
Dialogue was dodgy

And its the usually cop out with the ending
Wasted 4 hours of my life

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2024 22:38

Yup, all of those things.

Although it was about time when Ember pointed out her mother was a really shit mother.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2024 22:40

Also, there was nothing at all likeable about Malachy. Are we supposed to think he became nice??

KnickerlessParsons · 22/07/2024 22:49

So Ember lied then?

(Can we talk about the ending now?)

Restinggoddess · 22/07/2024 22:52

The ending is
one that is becoming too easy to use in dramas - no bad guy, no external baddie, if only a woman had a brain ..,,, ( trying not to spoil but FFS all the dramas these days are on the same formula)

PrincessScarlett · 22/07/2024 23:12

Liked the twist that Ember killed Amy. Malachy was still a predatory man with a liking for underage girls at best. What Amy and Malachy did to Kitty/Caitlin was just plain nasty. Knew his mate Arj was dodgy.

Yes Ember lied in the end. She did it as she wouldn't get justice for Miranda and all the other girls if she was in prison. Not sure how Ember will live with the fact she's killed someone though.

Bit disappointed to not see all those nasty men arrested for grooming and rape.

Oh and Ember's mother was just absolutely awful. Almost pimping her daughter out to Malachy knowing that he was sleeping around with other young girls. And flirting with him to boot. Really couldn't stand her. Brilliant acting by Amelia Bull to make me dislike her so much.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2024 00:55

So how did Ember get away with basically knowing nothing all these years and then saying she was there? Did they just believe her that it had only just come to her?

Mind you on here women appearing not to have a brain seems fairly normal, I have so many questions with the show but not really sure I enjoyed it enough to worry now

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 07:34

Ember was driving, right? Someone (either Arj or Malachy, couldn't care less who) said 'no , you can't drive. You haven't been learning long enough' or words to that effect. Whose car was it? And how could she drive at all?? It was her 17th birthday!

Also, was it only Amy in the road? I swear I saw a bloke too?

The ending was typical - take a minor character (played by a suspiciously well known actor) and make him matter far more than he did all along.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 07:41

I also don't get how on Earth Ember didn't know Mack had a brother. Everything about the past timeframe makes almost zero sense. Thsi is a small tightknit ' everyone knows everyone ' place , yet no one seemed to know Caitlin, or Joe ,existed until 3 - 4 episodes into 'many years later'.

Joe was literally in the plot for a silly red herring.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 07:48

O, right, yeah, Mack was in the road.

And Mack and Arj remained best buddies after all that?? Yeah, right.

Edited

Very good points.
Also on the wall at the police station it had written under Mack's photo his Mum's name, his Dad's name and siblings n/a.

So while Mack was seeing and sleeping with Amy he was also seeing and sleeping with Ember ?

I guessed Arj was involved and thought he was the killer from the start.

Did we find out who was the father of the baby ?

PrincessScarlett · 23/07/2024 10:08

Felt quite sorry for Arj in the end. Spent his life thinking he'd killed Amy. Probably wouldn't have killed Riz if he knew he hadn't killed Amy. Creepy character but only creepy because of the lies Malachy fed him. Not surprised he tried to kill Ember. Malachy was a piece of work setting up his best friend to take the blame.

PrincessScarlett · 23/07/2024 10:10

@deeahgwitch no, didn't find out the father of the baby. Seems it could have been any of a long list as Liam was pimping out Miranda to many. Ember asked Miranda for a list of all the men who had sex with her so she could go after them.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2024 10:12

I thought Arj knew that Ember did it and he was always covering for her cos he loved her
Obviously he wasn't right in the head on top of that

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 10:16

No, he thought he did it. Mack/Malachy/ whatevs gaslighted him into believing this. Because he was such a flat character no sympathy was expended on him - because the plot needed him as the shock reveal murderer of Riz.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2024 10:22

Really, Ember, in a different writer's hands (say , Sally Wainwright) , could have been an interesting study of a woman who hauled herself out of toxic parenting and a toxic, controlling teen relationship to become an admirable career woman and mother who made it despite her past.

But- no- she loved Mack, he was a great guy (who somehow had enough money to buy a boathouse! I mean , what even was his job??), she knew and suspected nothing and he was a beloved dad, SIL and husband. She ended up holding hands with her dreadful mum whilst scattering his ashes after he died tragically young of cancer. She wasn't even all that good a mother herself, imo - on two occasions her daughter swigged beer (I think we were supposed to think that tis was excellent parenting because she restricted the amount her 16 year old daughter drank .... at breakfast...) all against a backdrop of her apparently being very protective of Hannah. (although they did at least write in a line from AB about post it notes on the fridge - but that was more because she was the dreaded - shock- career woman)

I mean FFS when you write it out , it's ridiculous.

As a side note - whose favourite meal is beer and waffles??

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/07/2024 13:22

I did enjoy but regulars know I'm easily pleased

It was a good twist. She thought it was Mack

Mack knew it was her and saved her by burying the body

And making /blaming arj that he did it

Was trying to work out bow much older he was then the girls

If jo aka brother was actually blackmailing Mach for underage sex then Amy must have been year younger - is that right - so 15 heading up for 16
