After a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town is destroyed by a fire, Jenna Coleman's Detective Ember Manning draws a connection between a "podcast journalist investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls".

The Jetty which sees a fire tear through a holiday home in a scenic Lancashire lake town.
Detective Ember Manning (played by Jenna Coleman) is tasked with working out how the fire connects to a podcast journalist who is investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit love triangle between a man in his 20s and two underage girls.

But as Manning hurtles towards the truth, "it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she's always called home".

Jenna Coleman leads the cast as Detective Ember Manning, who is investigating a case that "threatens to unravel the threads of her past".

And the retired police officer who was mates with Amy's dad was massively aggressive and defensive when Ember spoke to him so there must be something going on there.

I didn't realise there were 2 timelines running... they didn't make that very obvious at all. I really didn't like it...

I'm fed up of revolting, grooming underage girls 'thrillers'. There's nothing thrilling about it. I wish they'd put some of the money they spend on making this shit into actually stopping this shit happening!

Agree that instead of pumping money into dramas about grooming and abuse of young people , it should be used to try and stop it happening in the first place.
I didn't watch episode one that well and missed the end so wasn't sure how the dead husband of Embers could be involved, but he clearly is ( or that's a red herring, probably!)
Maybe embers mum has killed Riz to stop the truth coming out? Ember is having flash backs too.

While looking through dead husbands Mack stuff hannah finds a photo of Mack and girl

She asks who it is and mum ember releises it is Amy

We then work out Mack is same bloke who is seeing Amy

Tho I worked out amy was flashbacks due to her name and knowing she was dead 17yrs

Why didn't ember go back to see Riz instead of just phoning her?
Amy's dad and the retired policeman at the bowling club were both really horrible.
They were going to sell the big house , but clearly didn't in the end. How did they manage to stay there without any money ? Did they say the insurance paid out immediately after Amy was missing?

I had to google when The Killers When We Were Young was released as thought it was far to modern to be 17 years old but no, I stand corrected, it was released in 2006.

It paid out eventually after they said they thought she was dead

Hmm, so Amy's parents still managed to stay in the same house then despite his money woes.
Ember trying to sober up in front of her mum was funny , it's weird that we revert to being children again around our own parents!
She is questioning why her mum didn't stop her seeing an older man. It was different times back then, but it was also irresponsible of her not to say anything or warn her off him as she was so young. Maybe the mum realized it would be a waste of time ?

Ember questioned Amy's dad about his hands and the mum said it was due to Japanese knotweed and it doesn't go away , so there's a connection .

I'm curious about Kitty as well as others , she's not even been mentioned .

I know if costs thousands do get rid of it

I enjoyed episode 1. It seemed fairly obvious it was 2 timelines as the 2 girls had no mobiles. And she was dating makckie who I assumed was sane as mackie (the husband)

Only thing unclear was how old he was when dating our police lady (who was 16)
Are they saying he was a serial peeve /rapist/killer now as well as then?
But current pregnant girl can't be his doing as been dead a year? And wouldn't "current source" reveal who he is if he has now died. You can't libel the dead!

Just finished episode 2.
Was wondering if body in lake would be very blonde and therefore Caitlin.

But no!

So where is Caitlin. We don't have any ladies of right age to be her in current if she did her mate in /accidental death.
Not sure why embers mum would know of Amy and Mack? Her kid was a year older at school and she only knew Mack via her daughter. So no reason for her to know Amy before she died.

Oh and child life insurance is generally only £10k or so. To pay for a funeral. You can't insure them for tons unless they produce an income thus creating a financial loss when they die
