Will have spoilers below!

Have loved GA since it was first broadcast although don't think it's anywhere near as good as it used to be, so have been re-watching since the start.

I now can pinpoint its demise - season 6!

Starts with George's funeral, then the merger with the horrible people from Mercy West, Izzy leaving, the Chief drinking, Teddy arriving and all the angst with the Owen & Teddy! Too much change and too many new characters in a short period!

Before this, it was practically perfect & then season 6 onward is downhill all the way (with a few amazing bursts - the shooting episode; the musical episode - can't remember others right now but no doubt there will have been a few more to keep me watching).

Anyone else agree or think otherwise?

Amelia is really pissing me off. She's not wanting to marry Link, nicest guy ever, because she hated the humdrum and monotony of raising kids over lockdown but she's stuck being the second parent to Meredith's kids with or without him! He's just making the best of a bad situation.

Schmitt also pisses me off. His whole personality is based on him being useless until he knows a little about something and then he's really patronising and cunty. Examples being the time in the hyperbaric chamber and when he's killed the podcaster which is where I am now.

It's definitely gone downhill season 17 onwards. Still, I don't know what I'm going to do with my time when I get to the end which is increasingly near!

Seattle Grace Mercy Death has the most inconsistent firing policy ever. Bitch about not being taught by Meredith Grey - you are out. Cut an LVAD or kill a podcaster through hubris - you are fine.

AFAIC tell, amelia made it very clear to link that she didn’t want to get married, and he still set up a massively manipulative proposal at Maggie’s wedding. She was right to say no, he didn’t respect what she was saying.

This comment is so interesting.

I've just watched the bit where she tells link he demanded she marry him and gaslit her. I thought she was pulling that out of her arse but your take makes me think maybe I have misread her viewpoint and he did what he wanted rather than listen.

Did she initially say marriage is ok but not right now then it grew from there to not at all? That's my memory but a lot of this season and last has been background noise rather than avidly watching.

SheilaFentiman · 31/05/2024 09:05

I agree with the gist of this article too - Amelia went on a massive journey to heal from Christopher’s birth and Owen (typical Owen, see also Cristina) wouldn’t listen to his partner saying she didn’t want kids. Link made a jump to MORRRRE kids after the unplanned birth of Scout and didn’t really listen to Amelia.

Also, anyone dragging 3 kids into a proposal should be firmly discouraged

Rewatching now and it's so fucking annoying how self absorbed and oblivious Meredith is, to the point of stupidity. She misses and ignores so many things/signs that things are wrong with people she claims to care about and considers "family".

It's annoying the crap out of me.

SheilaFentiman · 02/06/2024 13:17

Yy @ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat

I am glad Amelia called out Meredith for not getting her (and the mother and other sisters) to the hospital to say good bye to Derek.

Yes! That was my thought especially as Amelia is neuro. Just in case. Incredibly selfish. There are quite a few storylines where families aren't notified until quite late and I hope that's not true to life.

I'm still not sure how I feel about link and Amelia but agree that she made it clear and he ignored her. I just think her wording was strong.

I'm watching Private Practice and Bailey has turned up with a kidney transplant patient. There seems to be back story that was probably in Grey's but I don't remember it at all. They seem to have screwed something up and Bailey has spirited her down to do a transplant from her sister. Can anyone remember the story in Greys and fill in the blanks for me?

Yes, I remember this! She was due to get a transplant but Izzy fucked up - she had an argument with one of the new mercy west doctors (the man who gets shot in the shooting episode), gets distracted, and orders the wrong amount of medication to be given and it means she can't get the transplant.

There's a (small) chance I've seen greys too many times... it's my go to re-watch whenever I'm ill, or when I was bored breastfeeding on maternity leave, or when I had really bad morning sickness and didn't get out of bed.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 06/06/2024 23:01

Thank you @YellowHairband. I have no memory of that at all. I did enjoy having Bailey pop up though, it was prime Bailey time.

Private Practice makes zero sense though. Why are there no surgeons or doctors at that hospital? Why is it always the clinic staff rushing there?

I’m watching for the first time and am only on about season 7 and already think Meredith is by far the worst character in the show.

Obviously, I’ve heard about Grey’s for years and was always under the impression that Meredith and Derek was meant to be this great romantic love story. But they’re awful! I would say they spend 90% of their time arguing and Bailey and Karev have more chemistry than they do!

GildedAge · 07/06/2024 07:03

I don’t know, I quite like the way greys portrays relationships. None of the smarmy unrealistic rubbish we get in romcoms. In real life people do have disagreements but work through them and stay together.

Arconialiving · 07/06/2024 07:53

I agree @GildedAge

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 07/06/2024 08:07

The couples annoy me a lot and everyone is so pig headed. But that's probably an accurate representation of surgeons, you've got to be pretty stubborn and self centred to make it through all the training.

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2024 08:14

And then you get Ben building Bailey a tree house, and you get the absolute goosebumps ❤️

Rockfordpeach · 07/06/2024 20:08

I like the relationship portrayals mostly. The thing that irritates me the most is almost every single pregnancy is accidental. I think Meredith's son, Bailey was planned and... That's it? How are a group of medical professionals so clueless about contraception and conception?

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 07/06/2024 20:11

The births are also always dramatic. You can't just have a nice, straight forward birth. You've got to have a c section on a kitchen table.

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2024 20:16

Scout’s birth was reasonably straightforward, but I take your point!

Rockfordpeach · 07/06/2024 21:14

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2024 20:16

But also frustrating, there is no other surgeon possibly capable enough of operating on Richard's leg so Bailey HAS to demand Link misses the birth of his first child

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2024 21:28

Hahahah yep, true.

piss poor hospital management, only having one competent surgeon in each specialism 😀

TesticularHeft · 08/06/2024 00:06

My boyfriend watches this with me. His third time too in parts. He calls Meredith "Mezza" and he says Mezza is the worst. Walks around oblivious to everyone else's feelings but causes loads of problems.

TesticularHeft · 09/06/2024 14:03

Ha, I don't remember writing the last comment. Too many cocktails.

I've started season 20 today. Are we talking about it yet?
