Grey's Anatomy rewatch

Will have spoilers below!

Have loved GA since it was first broadcast although don't think it's anywhere near as good as it used to be, so have been re-watching since the start.

I now can pinpoint its demise - season 6!

Starts with George's funeral, then the merger with the horrible people from Mercy West, Izzy leaving, the Chief drinking, Teddy arriving and all the angst with the Owen & Teddy! Too much change and too many new characters in a short period!

Before this, it was practically perfect & then season 6 onward is downhill all the way (with a few amazing bursts - the shooting episode; the musical episode - can't remember others right now but no doubt there will have been a few more to keep me watching).

Anyone else agree or think otherwise?

Or realistic, which makes it all the more infuriating that when a doctor has a premie they waltz out with a fully formed healthy baby who has no ongoing issues.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 12/03/2024 19:55

Another thing that annoys me about the Grey’s kids is how they just have them around the hospital. Take a toddler on their rounds (Bailey’s adopted daughter) because she’s scared of leaving her in daycare. Zola just hanging out anywhere and watching surgeries. Babies left in their buggies around the place. Never a childcare nightmare because they can just let them loose around a hospital.

Does it annoy anyone else that Sofia had no health issues despite being born at 23weeks? She seemed to recover easy and had no long term issues?
And Luna had a few more problems in hospital but still seems relatively unaffected despite being born at 26weeks.

Yes it's completely unrealistic

I really hated the DeLuca gets beaten up storyline. I hated how everyone just let Alex off.

Yes and expected deluca to forgive. There was a lot of victim blaming

whosaidtha · 16/03/2024 07:32

Jo mentions that she lived in her car every single episode.

Uk release date 28th march. I don't think I'll have finished my rewatch by then. But I'm in season 18 so could do.

Do you know what channel? Will Disney have it?

whosaidtha · 17/03/2024 12:50

Yeah. Disney+

Just finished rewatching & got to the end of season 19 (just in time for the new series!)

On rewatching, I take back what I said in my opening post and thought it was all much better and loved it all!

Still think the earlier series were practically perfect & desperately miss Yang (& others plus Karev's ending was crap) but the latter series weren't as bad as I thought when I watched them initially.

The character development was all great and even Maggie & Amelia are less annoying to me (still can't stand Owen but Teddy has grown on me).

Still don't like the Station 19 crossover episodes as it does mean you miss key chunks of stories in GA, but that annoyed me less now too!

And loved Bailey winning the Katherine Fox award for her work (although surely Addison deserved to win it too?!!)

Season 19 felt like it was trying to get the magic back, so hoping for good things for season 20!

You mean MAGIC back!

(Being Meredith Alex George Izzy and Christina)

And

The 5 new interns. I love blue! And the one who is maybe dating helm. And in fact helm now.

I generally liked teddy -she always seemed a bit tragic and never quite getting what she wanted. Hopefully Greg also back (the one from ally mcbeale who had an affair with teddy) as he was funny (in everything)

burnoutbabe · 22/03/2024 09:07

(5 new interns surnames make MAGYK)

I agree it's better but 17&18 were hard. Really hard to get through. I basically didn't watch and had it on in the background. Just restarted 19 and it is much better.

theconfidenceofwho · 22/03/2024 09:46

I agree covid season was awful, but so was the situation so I've even forgiven that!

that's fab!

whosaidtha · 27/03/2024 08:59

When they shout 'page shepherd' or whoever. Who are they talking to? Everyone seems busy resuscitating the patient. Is that how it actually works in a hospital?

TesticularHeft · 30/03/2024 20:02

I'm on the singing episode where Callie and Arizona crash. I want to skip it but I don't want to miss the story.

I'm not watching the new series til it's out in full at the earliest but ideally not until I remember everything that happened before. I've seen some memes online tho and it's intriguing!

Arconialiving · 30/03/2024 20:04

I adore the singing episode - I hated it at the time but loved it on rewatch & Sara Ramirez singing her song is amazing!

GildedAge · 30/03/2024 20:09

I’m not watching the new series straight away either so no spoilers please. I am on series 16 but no watching many atm, will get there eventually.

SheilaFentiman · 30/03/2024 22:05

ditto, no spoilers for new seasons please

I've roped DP into watching it with me and I started that episode on my own but I had to skip through the last ten mins as he practically begged me to turn it off. I was happy to oblige.

I also didn't like how Callie acted in the episode after. Really angry like a bull and a bit nasty to her colleagues and friends. Understandable but not a fan. Lover her otherwise.

Itsmychristmasdress · 31/03/2024 11:42

I'm on season 19. I really like Helm and don't mind the girl dating her.
I cannot tolerate Owen. The most selfish man going,or Maggie who was just bloody awful to Winston. She makes him leave his life in Boston so she can feck off?
And I am surprised by Jo is really annoying. Her laugh grates on me.
I like the story line with the new interns though.
I think it really shows a difference to how interns were treated in season 1 vs now.

SheilaFentiman · 31/03/2024 11:48

I hate Owen, because he totally wants a baby (fair enough) but then keeps gettibg serious with women who are against (Cristina) or ambiguous (Amelia) and then pressuring them. Grrr.

Arconialiving · 31/03/2024 12:20

I imagine over the last 20 years how medical interns are treated has changed a lot, with a lot more care & support going into their wellbeing.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 31/03/2024 15:13

I was surprisingly glad Maggie left. Just not a good character anymore.

TherapistInATabard · 31/03/2024 17:24

I’ve been watching from the beginning for the first time, am a few episodes in on s19 now.

I HATED George! So whiny and entitled, awful to Meredith because she dared to not fancy him. Ugh.

Amelia annoys me intensely, I think it’s the actor’s delivery. And as for her non-binary lover Kai, oh my god, so wooden. Terrible actor, not believable at all.
