Grey's Anatomy rewatch

Will have spoilers below!

Have loved GA since it was first broadcast although don't think it's anywhere near as good as it used to be, so have been re-watching since the start.

I now can pinpoint its demise - season 6!

Starts with George's funeral, then the merger with the horrible people from Mercy West, Izzy leaving, the Chief drinking, Teddy arriving and all the angst with the Owen & Teddy! Too much change and too many new characters in a short period!

Before this, it was practically perfect & then season 6 onward is downhill all the way (with a few amazing bursts - the shooting episode; the musical episode - can't remember others right now but no doubt there will have been a few more to keep me watching).

Anyone else agree or think otherwise?

Chicago med is on prime with adverts.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 07/03/2024 19:00

I tried Chicago Med but didn’t like it. The Resident was ok but I got bored when it hit the covid times. Same with New Amsterdam actually. I also felt they were a bit samey.

I’m tempted to do an ER rewatch, now that’s a show.

Totally agree with this! I adored ER!

GildedAge · 07/03/2024 19:36

I loved ER, watched some of it in the 90s with some medic friends who all swooned over Clooney. Think I have watched it through 2 or 3 times but not recently so might be tempted to watch it over.

whosaidtha · 07/03/2024 20:38

I think the writers were wrong to get rid of half the interns in Schmidt's year. Qadri, Roy and Sam were all good characters who could of developed. It was a mistake to get rid of them.

Don't start with season 1, start a bit further in, maybe s4

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 08/03/2024 07:44

If you started ER in season 4 you'd miss George Clooney in the water, which is season 2. Also the Susan and Chloe storyline which has one of the most moving episodes.

It is very old now though so maybe it doesn't hold up well to new watchers as opposed to rewatchers. Although Doug in the water ought to hold up.

merrymelodies · 08/03/2024 08:01

DD and I just (re)watched the plane crash episode.😭 I thought I was prepared for it but Lexie dying while Mark tells her he loves her broke me. And DD. We sobbed.

I didn't realise that Alex left mid-season. He gave his reasons for leaving as wanting to diversify his roles. But surely they are contracted for each season? Did someone say he was ill? Or had poor mental health?

GildedAge · 09/03/2024 16:21

There has been lots of conjecture about why Alex left but as far as I know that is all it is.

Hopingitsahornyfinger · 09/03/2024 17:00

Has he been in anything else since leaving? I've not seen him in anything at all.

GildedAge · 09/03/2024 17:03

Wikipedia has him playing Marlon Brando in The Offer in 2022.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 09/03/2024 17:03

He played Marlon Brando in The Offer, which I think was about the making of the Godfather.

I've not even heard of that! He looks good as MB!

They really do love an adoption storyline. Totally forgot Bailey adopting that teenager. At least he's 18 so less red tape for me to be annoyed about.

whosaidtha · 11/03/2024 17:59

I really enjoyed the end of season 16. Wasn't prepared for Covid season.
Is season 19 airing on Disney+ at the same time as it airs in the us?

Starts two weeks after the US I think.

Do you mean 20? I assume series 19 is already on there.

Doug in the water more than holds up 😬

whosaidtha · 12/03/2024 09:58

Probably. I think I was thinking it went from Covid season 17 straight to new interns.

whosaidtha · 12/03/2024 17:50

Does it annoy anyone else that Sofia had no health issues despite being born at 23weeks? She seemed to recover easy and had no long term issues?
And Luna had a few more problems in hospital but still seems relatively unaffected despite being born at 26weeks.

Zola's spina bifida which apparently causes her zero issues after surgery despite being 6 months old by the time she is treated and likely to have sustained a fair amount of nerve damage irritates me

SheilaFentiman · 12/03/2024 18:53

God, yes, no issues for Sofia is deeply annoying! She was in hospital straight after birth but after that, nothing!

It also annoyed me that Arizona never mentioned how premature her baby was to other parents delivering early. Or even that it made her more hopeful that other babies could thrive like Sofia. She was always pessimistic about the chances of premies.
