Was on Friday night , bbc one and stars Daisy May Cooper ( this country , taskmasters)

Thought I'd start a spoiler thread as it's all on the I player and I know a few of us have binged it!
I did love this. It had an unusual manic start , but it grew in me and seeing the different episodes through a different lens was clever
I felt sorry for her with Alex and how easy it was for her to fall for his charms.

On me, not in ! Hate my phone sometimes

Lenny Rush is a good little actor and I suspected he was older - apparently 13 years old in real life. I know they are acting but I was thinking he's around a lot of Adult material and conversations, and also central to the cat demise!

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:21

The poor cat! :(

I really didn’t see the ending coming - I often don’t. I really liked it but then wondered whether every other flash back was accurate or she was softening them.

But I found the explanation of her friend’s story satisfying (brain fog means I am so poor at names right now) and, horrible though it was to watch, I thought the cat story was very brave and strong.

happinessischocolate · 25/09/2022 10:25

Sooooo Nic was watching the video of Jens date with Dan when she chucked the red wine over him. I assume she didn't know it was Jen though?

Doubleraspberry · 25/09/2022 10:29

Jen!

No, it was Jen that chucked the wine on him at the end the date, I thought?

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:29

She could have pulled that pull cord straight away and the driver would have seen them I think , so a lot of that was poetic license.
It might have made more sense to have him fall onto the tracks following his announcements that he didn't really love her :(
Telling her she was fat was horrible too.
He seemed really into her , but that was a curve ball I wasn't expecting.
Jen was wonderful, but Nic had her head in the sand about all of it. I did wonder if she was so dismissive once she realized she was poor and living in poverty. She didn't really seem to understand where she was at ( if that makes any sense )

I know - how callous and cruel was he! Didn't see that coming.

I assume the train doors can open up in real life if you get get stuck. What a nightmare situation and still being in possession of the button and thread!

My big laugh out loud was all the squeaky voice sounds coming out during the emotional speech. Went on and on ..

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:33

Her husband , Dan . was such a tool.
Those girls working in the shop were taking about Dean.
Same person :(
The men did not come out of this well at all.

OP posts:
Blossomhoney · 25/09/2022 10:34

I thought the ending was so good, I really didn’t expect it.

happinessischocolate · 25/09/2022 10:36

Doubleraspberry · 25/09/2022 10:29

Jen!

No, it was Jen that chucked the wine on him at the end the date, I thought?

Yes Jen threw it, but she was videoing the date, and Nic was watching a video on her phone in the graveyard whilst avoiding the cleaner and she said "yes, chuck the red wine over the bastard" or words to that effect then he came home with red wine on his trousers.

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:38

I suppose we had to pick up on that wedding video , how he went on about how good Dan was at everything. He didn't make it sound like rivalry though.
Clearly jealous of him and his home and the whole set up and always had been: he knew that Nic was insecure really and hides it away by being a bit brash and uncaring
Reminding her they had sex in the kitchen , marking his territory. A really nasty character all round.

Doubleraspberry · 25/09/2022 10:39

Ah, I see. Sorry, I misread your post. And I missed her doing that - I was watching and working so will have missed a lot of details I expect.

I HAD twigged that it was her husband that the girls in the shop were talking about though!

happinessischocolate · 25/09/2022 10:40

She could have pulled that pull cord straight away and the driver would have seen them I think , so a lot of that was poetic license.

Yes she could but she didn't, in the real memory probably through shock and initial anger not properly realising what would happen, and in the false memory she has changed everything due to the trauma.

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:44

I didn't guess the bit about the husband having an affair with the young girl.
Yes, her memories were all different regarding the train accident.

OP posts:
happinessischocolate · 25/09/2022 10:46

I didn't like Alex from the start, and then when he was messing around with her in the kitchen when his wife and brother were there I just despised him even more.

If people are having an affair through genuine love for each other they don't do things to deliberately take risks. Messing around like that when your partners are there shows it's about the risk and the challenge rather than genuine feelings. So I didn't have much sympathy for NIc after seeing that either.

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:49

I don't think we were meant to like Nic much anyway. They probably deserved each other tbh.
They were all horrible apart from Jen and Suzy who I felt sorry for.

I think she meant it to happen!

Inkanta · 25/09/2022 10:57

So Daisy May and Selin Hizli (who plays Jen) wrote this together! A refreshing change - not the usual comedy screenplay formula we're used to.

Alex was your classic cruel narcissistic bastard - straight out of AIBU thread and the other men were bastards as well.

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:57

She probably did expect him to suffer!

foxlover47 · 25/09/2022 10:57

When Nic had sex with him after interrupting him
Having sex , in her bed , with suze I thought ... woman what the heck 🙈
I liked the end , I'm
Glad she didn't pull the thing to stop the train , I could watch DMC in anything she's just so easy to watch , her facial expressions etc and I loved Kerry in this country too much lol
I did think the shop girl was the one in the photos he was showing Alex , didn't like the husband either

HalleLouja · 25/09/2022 10:58

Poor Suzy. She was in the middle of all that drama. To be fair her life was probably better without Alex in it.

I didn’t guess the twist, but am wondering how / if they could do a second series….

the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 10:58

Yes, the men came out of it all really badly !
Not one nice character.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 25/09/2022 11:00

Defo the girl in the shop was in that photo on Dan's phone he showed Alex.
Such a sleaze.

Yes when Nic got so drunk the night before her son's birthday and was not present for his opening of presents - I didn't like her much for that.
