For those who have seen all five episodes and binged it all.
Thought it was ok, very funny at times.

No, nor did I foresee Kevin's measured and kind approach later in the loo. I thought he might be needy and silly.

Nowmum43 · 16/05/2021 17:56

I feel like I feel about the whole cast the same way Julia did with GaRRy the plumber 😍

the80sweregreat · 16/05/2021 19:37

Amanda did lean on Kevin a bit in the first series but I thought it was because she is a CF and a bit needy.
I was shocked she had sex with him though. She always seemed a bit repelled by him.
Would be funny if series four has Amanda pregnant but not sure if it's Kevs baby or her ex's ( after a brief reconciliation with him ) or even someone else.
I wonder if they will make anymore?
( hope so)

You should write the storylines!

ApplyWithin · 16/05/2021 19:57

Actually as soon as they opened the champagne in the shop I could see how it was going to end. Still enjoyed it though. Keep the gloves on! Grin

1000umbrellas · 16/05/2021 20:04

I'm so glad it was them, I had a terrible feeling earlier on when Kevin and Liz were driving that they were going to get together. It would have been so wrong!

I loved Anne and her Mammy so much I've actually gone back and rewatched the scene a couple of times. Joanna Lumley's face when Anne's mammy asked her if she wants to hold the baby! Grin

the80sweregreat · 16/05/2021 20:06

I'm glad that Liz and Kev are just good friends. She is good to him ( sometimes!)

Nope!
desperatehousewife21 · 18/05/2021 16:39

Just started from the beginning again, watching the pilot right now.
Wow Kevin actually looks...really good with a beard??! Wink

Karwomannghia · 18/05/2021 20:25

In the first series it’s more obvious that Kevin fancies amanda when her friend who’s almost identical to Kevin goes swimming with them and Kevin hides his trousers because he’s jealous and Amanda blatantly wants him to fancy her.

ApplyWithin · 18/05/2021 20:28

I always felt Kevin was jealous of that guy (I forget his name) being a better SAHD than him. I didn’t connect it to Amanda tbh.

Lucaslucas1612 · 18/05/2021 20:32

How do you watch it in advance?

EvilOnion · 18/05/2021 20:45

@Lucaslucas1612 it's all on BBC iPlayer :)

TheChosenTwo · 18/05/2021 21:36

Was the other SAHD called James?

rooarsome · 19/05/2021 15:12

Finished it today as I've been taking my time. I really enjoyed this one! It wasn't as laugh out loud funny but it had its moments- I loved the character development though.
I found the racism storyline needed a better resolution though. That mother was truly awful. However, as my husband pointed out, often these instances don't have a satisfying ending in real life either.

Oh yes I think it’s because I watched it again so soon after I had that in my head and was looking for signs. I know that first time round I definitely thought it was sahd competition but I’d forgotten!

I was in admiration of the writers with the racism storyline. My ds had a problem with some boys in year 6 and 7 (he’s mixed race). The way the school handled it and the reaction of the other parents was eerily similar. I ended up having a very similar conversation as Meg did with Mrs Lamb - I even said I felt no one had his back. As pp said these things are not easily sorted but I’m glad they included it as schools aren’t great at dealing with racism and we need to get better.

I thought Julia’s message to Garry at the end was clever. It summed up the way we can be made to feel if we are the ones who carry the mental load etc. Being made to feel that we have become unlovable because we are always having to try to get others to pull their weight or do the things that need to be done.

Friendofdennis · 20/05/2021 10:29

I loved all three series However Julia’s husband suddenly turning into a caring person at the end didn’t ring true as he had been disengaged and selfish all along.

desperatehousewife21 · 20/05/2021 13:02

I know a real life Amanda, she even looks just like her. Went to her kids birthday party years ago (when my DD was 4) and it was the most Amanda-like party ever. She even has a white, pristine show home style house too.

Delatron · 20/05/2021 18:53

I felt with Paul it was just revelling a bit more about him and their relationship? My friends and I laugh because we have husbands not quite as bad but they’re off doing their sport and triathlon stuff. Endless parcels being delivered. Work jollies. He’s like an extreme version. Bit thoughtless and selfish but does love her. Whether that’s enough for her (clearly not with builder guy).

It’s quite typical to rock up and be the good guy at the end. Bit clueless but not awful.

Sylvan92 · 20/05/2021 21:43

@Delatron I agree Paul is an exaggerated version of a lot of husbands just as Julia is an exaggerated version of a lot of women trying to juggle everything. At a certain point in our lives, I felt my dh was a bit of a Paul. He, after three dcs and 22 years of marriage, admits he was a bit of a selfish prick when the dcs were young.

Ejk80 · 20/05/2021 22:48

I could totally relate to how Julia was feeling in her message to Garry and I loved that we saw that side of her. I had been hoping we would get a scene with her and Paul together this series. I know it’s a running joke that he’s never around but I think at some point we needed to see them together and I thought it was a nice ending. He’d obviously noticed Julia fawning over Garry so maybe that’s what motivated him at that point

Delatron · 20/05/2021 23:22

I liked he didn’t appear jealous or threatened.
Just kind of accepted it.
