For those who have seen all five episodes and binged it all.
Thought it was ok, very funny at times.

EvilOnion,
Yeah I loved that episode as well especially the G&T’s.
Hadn’t laughed out loud for ages until watching season 3.

lollipoprainbow · 14/05/2021 07:01

@Creamcrackersandricecakes interesting! I only knew her as a comedian.

Confusedandshaken · 14/05/2021 08:52

I totally get Julia's crush on Garry. I felt something very similar years ago when I was all at sea in a new job. It was a new role and no one really knew what was expected of me, least of all me. In my lonely confusion I fixated on a colleague who had the closest idea to what was needed (in hindsight he was miles off but he was the best of a bad lot). I imbued our passing conversations with way too much significance and got little thrills every time I saw him or spoke to him. Even at the time I knew he was smelly, unattractive and taken (and I was fragrant, attractive and happily married) but he was a competent, reliable fixture in a very insecure environment and that was a comfort. Once I found my feet and created my role the feelings passed very quickly!

I love the way the characters are so rounded in this series. It's funny and touching and I wish the episodes were longer.

thedevilinablackdress · 14/05/2021 11:38

Has anyone mentioned Anne's filthy comment about fantasising about Kevin?? Brilliant

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2021 11:40

Because I ' binged ' on this the other day I think I've missed a few good bits! I also tend to go on my phone whilst watching tv and that is very bad too for missing things etc.
I'll have to just watch it all again..

Anne was awesome. I loved her relationship with her mammy to contrast with Amanda and Julia. I loved how Irish she got telling Amanda what for. I love that she can see Kevin's sex appeal. And I loved her "do you not feel guilty about that?! Then you're not Catholic." She and Liz are the most relatable characters for me.

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2021 12:44

I love how awkwardly Sam Shepherd climbed that fence! Why didn't Liz just open the gate for him ? Lol 😂
I didn't realize before that the kids don't speak at all !
My favourite one ever is the swimming party one in series one. I could almost smell the chlorine and Liz asking Julia ' why are you dressed like Hilary Clinton ' ?
She has had some funny one liners.

littleburn · 14/05/2021 18:47

I'm also developing such a girl crush on Tanya Moodie (Meg). She's so striking looking and just glows! Although maybe not the best look for someone whose character is seriously ill.

scully29 · 14/05/2021 18:57

Oh its sooo hilarius all the way through, so slick. I loved Julias 70s parenting comment, I loved the Catholic guilt line from Anne, I loved the lets get out of this' nit storm'. Just so brilliant. Patricia Carmichael is amazing. They are all amazing! Really hope for a next season soon.

plumpuddisnice · 14/05/2021 19:55

Just binged watched season 3. Loved it. I laughed at the part where Meg said I went to St Paul's Girls and probably beat you at hockey to Amanda, to which Amanda replies " I think I would remember if I'd met you at hockey " Meg: "oh yeah why's that". Amanda: 😳
It's the unsaid, because you're black. It just resonated so much with experiences I've had. I say that as a black female. The silent comedy moments are so well done.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 14/05/2021 19:58

Meg’s Kemi Telford wardrobe is fab too.

FelicityBeedle · 14/05/2021 20:07

If we’re doing inaccuracies hospitals don’t phone people’s daughters to tell them they can’t live independently, they don’t tell people things like that full stop. And Marion was portrayed as very capable with a magic walking stick that helped as long as it was mentioned every so often!
I loved Anne and Her mammy and previously being head of product devo at GSK, yes she’s flustered but I can believe it considering she does all the actual work at the PTA

I thought that was an amazing piece of social commentary.

And when she says "to be sure to be sure" in an Irish accent
alfafabean · 14/05/2021 20:49

@selfieelf you are so right on the Irish nonsense. She was trying to show affinity but was outstandingly xenophobic in the process. I am clearly too invested!
I think Julia will post and say she's carrying it all, her mother is a bitch and her mil is incompetent. Her DH has a busy and important job and she can't find 'staff' aka a pushover nanny
Amanda will totes have a gifted and talented child but will be under the sex board about the squaddie and johnnies jealousy issues.
Liz would just troll us all but not in a malicious way but in a I need to get a job fix the time kind of way.
Meg would waltz in with sensible and robust advice and fuck off as she has no times for the comments.
Anne would be kind and suggest sensible but insipid advice and would be lost in 999 comments

Hahahaha brilliant!

I'm sure the writers are on mumsnet ! .. ( I've no idea , but a few comments were very suspiciously Mumsnet )
Amanda's mum would probably be on the style and beauty board telling people to buy 500 quid boots even though they are after ' mid priced ranged ones'

Binge watched over two evenings and loved it. Is this the last series what with the older kids going off to secondary school? The last episode felt like it could be the ‘final’ one, particularly as you finally see Julia and her DH actually together for the first time in the entire series. I really hope they make more though!

ApplyWithin · 14/05/2021 23:01

Speaking of Julia’s husband, did they change the actor?

Same actor! He looked quite different though

Graham Linehan posts in FWR but I don’t know if he has writing credits on the latest series. I can imagine Sharon Horgan lurking though!
Delatron · 15/05/2021 08:08

I really loved this series and all the subtle nuances and mixture of sadness and humour.

Completely get the builder and Julia storyline. I currently have a slight crush on our not very attractive, heavily bearded guy who’s working on our garden. So resonate with the poster who mentioned her friend and the tree surgeon. It’s often the people we least expect!

The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the cancer storyline. I think it was purposely done so not too heavy and so it didn’t dominate etc. I’ve had breast cancer and they could have made her look a bit knackered. She glowed! The ‘all clear’ is a bug bear of mine. You don’t get an ‘all clear’. For me I had surgery (so tumour removed) then I had chemo. Then I was sent off and basically had to cross my fingers it didn’t come back. There’s no ‘all clear’ ‘you’re cured’ moment. But anyway. Apart from that all good.

Totally didn’t recognise Sonia from Eastenders.

Think Liz and Kevin just have a lovely friendship rather than anything more. So pleased she is still with shepherd guy.

BigGreen · 15/05/2021 08:30

There were fewer side splitting one liners this series (is that the lack of Sharon Horgan in the writer's room?) but I still really enjoyed it especially the characters deepening a lot, as you've all said.

LuluJakey1 · 15/05/2021 08:34

My only criticism is why are there only 5 episodes? Should be 8 in each series, I think.

Thirtyrock39 · 15/05/2021 09:17

Oh my god I totally hadn't realised Jackie clune was Mrs lamb !! I watched a documentary when I was pregnant with my oldest when she had triplets !
Also baby racist mum was 'the new dawn' in office xmas specials I think
I really loved series three def not as laugh out loud as series one and second half of series two but I loved the character development - they definitely made Kevin look a lot fitter
Another nerdy plot mistake though was in series one when Amanda is having a threesome with a squaddie from Aldershot Kevin says his mum lives near there (although I suppose he could be referring to her grave) thought Paul at the end was a great touch. I was slightly shooting daggers at my dh at the end as he is a bit of a Paul !!
I hope there's another series but maybe should be left here as others have said it's very primary school focused and might not work as kids get older and more independent
