For those who have seen all five episodes and binged it all.
Thought it was ok, very funny at times.

I'm on board with ' justice for Kevin ' !
Liz has always been (her version) of nice to him from day one. Amanda just uses him. Julia is indifferent to him , but happy to use as child care if the opportunity comes up and Meg is a tad bemused by him.
His wife treats him like poo!
He does deserve better! A new love interest who likes cycling and outdoor pursuits.

I loved it, it wasn't veering too much into slapstick which I though the last series was in danger of doing.
Why was there no teacher on the school trip?

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2021 12:22

I wondered where the teacher was on that coach! Just Mrs Lamb and the TA ( Sonia in Eastenders!)
They obviously only needed mum helpers !!

I did bristle at no teacher on the school trip having done many school trips as a teacher. You're always on a knife edge and something always goes wrong. It was unfair to portray TAs as drippy. They're usually more like Mrs Lamb Some nice touches like the Shepherd being knee deep in placenta- absolutely true although he was far too clean. Poor Amanda. She's lost a lot and it seemed like the scriptwriters were punishing her for being beautiful and having it all at one point. Lol at Head of Product Development at GSK. The cancer story had so many holes in it. I've had BC twice and it didn't ring true. The racist bullying story was good because it wasn't properly sorted out. Just like real life. Hope this isn't the last series.
the80sweregreat · 12/05/2021 13:22

I suppose we have to just assume that Meg hid a lot from the others about how she really felt and only did the school runs occasionally etc.
Schools do not come out in a good light do they ? ( true, just like real life!!)

In the Christmas special Amanda was being called out by Julia over something and she said ' this will be the last Christmas in this house' and I did feel a bit sorry for her! A climb down on the house front will be so hard for her to take.

My favourite episode was the school trip one. As a teacher of REALLY made me laugh that the TA was throwing up from the moment they set off Grin there's ALWAYS one though it's usually a pupil. And all the parents "telling" on people to the teacher - I've often thought you're an adult sort it out yourself. They're worse than kids sometimes.

I also thought the racist downplaying was very well done. And so true to life. Ie people suggesting it's "just kids being kids" and the mother of the racist child calling the other child a liar and generally being a total dick. I've dealt with this so often and sadly I only have so much power, far too often nothing gets done SadI did like the moment where mrs Lamb told Meg she'd take her complaints seriously from now on

Amanda needs to get herself on MN and we can tell her that as the RP she has a legal right to stay in the family home Grin
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 12/05/2021 13:47

Oh and I laughed my head off at Liz giving dirty looks to the mum of the racist baby, then shitting herself when she got up Grin

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2021 14:39

Mannus is only 10 I think so yes, Amanda should stay in that lovely house ? My legal knowledge is scant though.
It's good she got herself that store full of useless tat. It is a positive move to be fair to her! ( I still would never be friends with her or her beautiful hair though )

It's the little things like that which makes it funny! Liz isn't as hard as she makes out is she?

My favourite lines are when Julia is talking about her house and says it will be " like living on a cross channel ferry" with all the ramps and handrails and her bathroom "a geriatric sheep dip" 😂

MinnieJackson · 12/05/2021 16:08

I loved it! Really hope there's more to come! And get the Xmas episode up on the iPlayer.

I loved the scene in Hygge Tygge..."keep the driving gloves on!"

GreenClock · 12/05/2021 22:24

I thought that this series was superb - nuanced and funny - but yes, the cancer storyline was a little thin. I agree with the pp about Jane the Virgin (what a good show that was btw).

Julia’s crush on the builder was realistic. He was the antithesis of her useless (albeit hot) husband. I suspect that her mum noticed and had a discreet word with her husband.

I was expecting to find out that Tamara had been the OW of the other hot husband. Amanda is in a bad way, I feel for her.

And the other hot husband thinking that Henry VIII was named that because he had eight wives 😆

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 12/05/2021 22:28

I love Julia's husband, to look at anyway.

TheChosenTwo · 12/05/2021 22:45

Amanda reminds me of David Brent Grin

southeastdweller · 13/05/2021 08:31

I agree the cancer storyline felt a bit underdeveloped but I did like seeing another side to Meg. The characterisation this series was better and made it for me the best of the three so far although I'd have liked a bit more Liz (and her sexy ex!).

I couldn't see what the hell Julia saw in that builder.

I was welling up when Julia said what she did about herself and a bit later when Paul said he loved her.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 13/05/2021 08:39

I loved Julia in the church trying to impress the nun with her prayers and chanting Agnys ...Deyn Grin

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 09:54

The builder was an odd storyline for Julia who doesn't strike me as the type to become infatuated by anyone much. Especially someone who clearly wasn't impressed by her or at all interested
I suppose if it had been the hunky six pack diet cola type builder it would have been too much of a cliche or a builder who was lusting after her or something a bit creepy , but this was a bit odd.
Maybe she just does it to people as she lacks a bit of love herself? It was her fantasy that he would be interested in her ? She is needy but not with her own husband?

I've been infatuated with someone when I was married and it was bizzare in retrospect. Similarly zero interest from him and he was completely boring and not even very attractive! I thought that storyline was actually quite accurate. I cringe when I think of how close I came to making myself look like a total tit.

This made me laugh too 😂
the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 10:02

It's odd isn't it how sometimes we like people who don't show any interest back?
I sort of got it , but it was just out of character for Julia! Plus you would think she'd be too busy with the kids and work and her mum really to worry about him.

I confess this happened to me too. A time of absolute madness. This was the most accurate part of the whole series.
southeastdweller · 13/05/2021 10:23

It would have been believable if the builder was more attractive or (especially) he'd been kind to her and, as unlovable as she views herself, she'd misread his kindness as something more but Julia's obsession depicted here just didn't ring true for me.
