For those who have seen all five episodes and binged it all.
Thought it was ok, very funny at times.

It was just a silly interlude I guess.
She wanted a bit of attention and just made up a fantasy about her big love affair with another man! I agree that if he had done something nice for her ( other than giving her the spare tap from the back of his van ) or rescued her from having a flooded house or something that showed kindness , then it might have been more believable maybe?
I guess it's only half hour so they have to make us imagine some of what's happened before
Her lust for Lee mead was a bit more justified as he wasn't around and it just was a fantasy of hers to run into him in town etc!

I think it was his usefulness. Because her husband wasn't the handy type. He got stuff done didn't he, seemed capable

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 11:05

Yes, he got the bathroom done then over charged her and ignored her too ( mostly)
( my usual dealings with any trades people lol)

Someone I know is so smug as her own dh can tackle anything and everything and they never have the humiliation of waiting in for builders who don't show up or paying loads to get it sorted. He will not pay out for anything.
I wished I'd married a builder sometimes..

selfieelf · 13/05/2021 11:21

DIY skills are firmly on my list for my next partner

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 11:25

My dh will tackle some things but the bigger jobs its always ' don't have the tools , need the experts ' etc which is all true .. but just annoying! ( I can't do these jobs either to be fair to him )

I loved the meta moments that reflect the reality we're all living in right now. The nit episode, Meg getting her all clear by telephone, Amandas shop moving online etc. Nice little things that won't date it too much, but keep it relatable.

Last year I had BC and I had many face to face appointments with consultants and the like. The 'all clear by telephone' was a step too far imo. Anyway it was a great series apart from that. As you were.
NotQuiteUsual · 13/05/2021 13:03

derxa I'm really sorry to hear that, what an awful time to go through that. I hope you're doing better now.

I can only speak from personal experience, but my DFs appointments for his heart troubles were over the phone as much as possible, including when he finally got a diagnosis. So it did hit a nerve for me. But I totally get where you're coming from, especially with you going through BC yourself.

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 13:14

I know they take poetic license with these things but they could have had a shot of Meg coming out of the hospital with her Dh all happy or something.
Plus she wouldn't have been on the school trip in the first place I assume?

I'm fine. The NHS transferred BC surgery to a private hospital and all was good. Sorry for the derail
wewereliars · 13/05/2021 13:46

I didn't understand the thing with the builder at all, I don't think it worked.

Cocolapew · 13/05/2021 14:13

I think it was just Julia going a bit mad 😃 her mum was moving in, her DH is always absent from family life, it was an escape for her. My friend acted the same over a tree surgeon Hmm

AprilShowerThoughts · 13/05/2021 14:33

I think it's little things that tipped her into being a fruitcake - like getting told the tea she made was lovely and being given the spare tap - to quote Call the Midwife from the other week when you are starved of kindness you seek it out in strange places -anywhere - any crumb of someone not being a dick feels amazing and Julia seems to crave kindness despite being a total user! Isn't it great that every character is so multifaceted. Julia would drive me mad as a friend but I feel sorry for her - likewise Amanda. Kevin seems wet but he's got a steeliness to him, I love Anne's periodic sweary outbursts at Amanda and how Amanda actually takes it in her stride... And Liz is lonely even though she's tough... They feel like real people!

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 15:10

Liz is my favorite as she is kind to them , but in a non showy way. She also says things that are actually true ( mostly about Amanda)
In series one she gave Julia lots of advice about kids parties and the breakfast club because she knew that her mum had done it all for her and she was at sea about how to cope with the childcare problems when her mum left her to it. Im glad Sam shepherd has stuck around.

I also like Kevin as he isn't the pushover people thinks he might be despite letting his wife walk all over him! (He knows she treats him like poo deep down. ) He also managed to look ok in Lycra!
They do feel real people ( even if Julia's obsession with Garry Builder was a tad odd .)
It's marmite isn't it Motherland? Read a few negative reviews and comments online. Writing comedy can't be easy though.

Julia's reaction to Kevin and Amanda shagging was priceless. And Mrs Lamb heard them talking about it in the toilets 😱

Maireas · 13/05/2021 17:01

Also, Kevin was nice to Amanda in the loo, but not needy "it was good, but not that great, let's move on". Kind but not silly.
Liz is kind and thoughtful, she likes to wear a hard carapace and appear tough.

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2021 18:46

Love Mrs Lamb! Great character

The actress who plays Mrs Lamb has triplets in real life so she was fine on the school trip by herself Grin

Mrs Lamb is ace.
I saw Paul play Oberon in Midsummers Night Dream opposite Gwendoline Christie and he was so fit.
It's weird to see him as useless Paul.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 13/05/2021 23:35

Jackie Clune, who plays Mrs Lamb, has the most incredible CV - she's an astonishing, multi talented singer, writer and actor. She's played the lead roles in Mamma Mia and Billy Elliot. And yes, she has four children, including triplets!

One of my favourite parts in this series was Anne finally losing her shit and calling Amanda a 'big blonde cow'. GrinGrin
And Kevin reversing - that was amazing. And Anne's lovely mammy. It was all fab really, but I'd like at least 10 episodes, not just 5!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/05/2021 23:41

I've just googled Jackie Clune - here she is with her children as young kids 😱 I wonder if she marks them down as late when they leave the house Grin

We binged it all tonight. WBD had me absolutely hooting with laughter. Julia’s answerphone message at the end really touched a nerve. Even though the infatuation didn’t ring entirely true, what she said in the voicemail really did. Great show.

EvilOnion · 14/05/2021 00:25

I only discovered this show yesterday and have just finished bingeing S3, I really enjoyed it - I think my favourite episode has been sports day with them just perching on a blanket with the tins of Gordon's 🤣

Also loved Kevin's reverse scream and the fact that having "not great" sex with Amanda seems to have snapped him out of his fantasy. I honestly thought he might end up with Liz!
