Hi,

So we've only watched the first episode, but so far I'm not feeling it.

The (grown up) children are a bit "try hard" in their comedy, but I'm really hoping it gets better, as everyone else seems to love it and I was really looking forward to it.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.

Sheesh.

PollyGray · 03/01/2021 20:08

Oh I've just watched the 'simply the best' episodes. What a joy!!!

PimlicoJo · 03/01/2021 21:22

I didnt love it at first but persevered. I realised how much I loved it in the last episode of series 2 when they were all at a barn dance and the series ended with them dancing. I suddenly felt very engaged.

I love Moira. I want to be her. Not giving a shit about what she wears, says or does.

StartupRepair · 03/01/2021 21:37

I start d it and drifted away at about episode 4. My sister persuaded me to try again and it was the best thing during two weeks hotel quarantine. Just loved it. Now pushing young adult dc to give it a go. DS is named David and some of the sibling arguments are eerily familiar..

OutComeTheWolves · 03/01/2021 21:53

I think it gets better once Patrick makes an appearance.

Disgruntledpelicans · 03/01/2021 22:10

Please stick with it! It's my favourite show of all time. I cried my eyes out at the very end.

AnnieRich · 03/01/2021 22:55

Yet another one who took a few episodes to get into it and then cried when it ended.

PringlesForBreakfast · 03/01/2021 22:59

Just finished the episode with Carl's funeral.

Slightly picking up 🙂

Oooooo Dannnnnnnny Boooooooooooy

Glad you're persevering

Deadringer · 05/01/2021 19:30

I am giving it another go. On episode 3 and it seems better than the first time round.

Ilovetea33 · 10/01/2021 04:35

Also found the first episode totally underwhelming. There are so many other things I want to watch, I don't want to invest so much time until I might like it - or not.

PringlesForBreakfast · 10/01/2021 11:49

Update:

Coming to the end of series 2 and it's definitely picked up. Actually have LOL at several moments now.

"It's memory foam, John" when Moira realises the mattress has been tried out by the Schitts.

Also Moiras "audition" with the Jazzagals Grin

The raw milk episode is definitely the funniest one so far!

Could do with less ".......I don't know what you're saying" s from David though.

I finished the series last night and I'm not ashamed to say I cried, it was such a fitting ending.
I have loved the characters have been allowed to develop over time so we get to see them in all their complexities. It's been just the job in these difficult times and now I'll have to find something else as good!

LetMeGoohooohooho · 10/01/2021 16:50

I thought the first episode was atrocious, David was the main problem for me. Unwatchable?

PollyGray · 10/01/2021 16:54

I disliked them ALL in the first episode, especially David (and Alexis).

But they kind of grew on me as their characters fleshed out. It was like getting to know people who you initially think "ew! noooooooo"! and then you get to know them a bit and like them despite their flaws (sorry for the borrowed Schittism there)

teezletangler · 10/01/2021 18:13

Moira car shopping was my favourite.

Best moment of the entire show, apart from the first kiss. That accent! Grin

OP, I think seasons 3 and 4 are the best. For me it flagged a little towards the end.

I love it, but you really have to suspend disbelief with the show because absolutely nothing actually makes sense. I used to keep a running list of SC irritations on my phone. Chiefly, why do they still live in the motel once they all have jobs???!!!

Crinkle77 · 10/01/2021 23:49

I struggled with it too and I'm currently on season 4. It has got better but I still something it lives up to the hype. I watch cos they're only 20 minute episodes and I'm desperate for Ted and Alexis to get back together. I have to say I'm not liking Patrick. I find him very passive aggressive particularly after watching the episode where him and Stevie accuse David of not compromising.

Crinkle77 · 10/01/2021 23:50

Gah stupid autocorrect. It should say it doesn't live up to the hype.

I don't get it either why don't get their own place. Even once they get the 40,000 dollars why didn't they use some of it as a deposit on a rental? Does not make sense at all.
PerpetualStudent · 11/01/2021 00:04

“ I kind of went off it a bit around season 4 (I think), which is funny, cos lots of perople are saying that's when it's best. I found the Simply The Best epsiode horribly cringey and cloying (sorry fans blush) to the point I would skip it on a rewatch”

I feel the same! I actually like the earlier series better, when there is more contrast between the Roses and the town, I think it gets a bit too soppy and self-referential towards the end.

But then I like the 1st series of Parks and Rec best, so I might be an outlier!

TrashPanda · 11/01/2021 00:09

I much preferred Olive Branch to Simply the Best

Veryverycalmnow · 11/01/2021 00:14

Yes, stick with it.

esselllx · 11/01/2021 00:20

Don't watch it then .... why watch something you don't like. As for the children that's how they are. It does not change so if it irritates you then 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/01/2021 00:38

They would have to cook, clean, pay bills... not skills they have.
