Schitts Creek gets better, right?...

Hi,

So we've only watched the first episode, but so far I'm not feeling it.

The (grown up) children are a bit "try hard" in their comedy, but I'm really hoping it gets better, as everyone else seems to love it and I was really looking forward to it.

Definitely @Saucery, she had biggest arc I think. I loved Alexis- just wanted to give her a cuddle. And Ted!

HedgieHog · 02/01/2021 17:46

Never fancied it when I saw it on my suggestions on Netflix but I gave it a go around Lockdown 2.
Took me a good 5 episodes to really get it, I cried when I got to the very last episode
Moiras voice sometimes gets on my nerves but love the rest of them. Moiras wardrobe is epic
Will check out the otger recommendations on here as I also love parks and rec (again took me a while to get into it) and Arrested Development
Saw this recently which made me smile twitter.com/schittscreek/status/1270036935604609026?s=21

I was hooked from the moment the Roses arrived in Schitts Creek and saw the sign to the town. Loved that the sign was again revisited in the very last program.

fluffyugg · 02/01/2021 18:15

Agree re Mrs Browns Boys, utterly awful! Yes, Mutt was the weakest character for me

PuppyMonkey · 02/01/2021 18:49

I’d just like to clarify that just because I don’t care for Schitt’s Creek so far, that does not mean I like Mrs Brown’s Boys. Grin

The Puppy doth protest too much, methinks.
eyesbiggerthanstomach · 02/01/2021 19:23

Yes stick with it! It's not just funny but very heart warming. It's just lovely without being cheesy.

The family don't come across very well initially but honestly, they are my favourite tv family now.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 02/01/2021 19:26

Ok then, I'm willing to give it another go. I've loved Moira ever since I first saw her as the mom in Home Alone Smile

WellThankyouAJPTaylor · 02/01/2021 21:27

I like it, but it's not top tier comedy for me.

I kind of went off it a bit around season 4 (I think), which is funny, cos lots of perople are saying that's when it's best. I found the Simply The Best epsiode horribly cringey and cloying (sorry fans Blush) to the point I would skip it on a rewatch. And I felt it became a bit too much the David-and-Patrick show for a while, to the detriment of Alexis and Stevie in particular. But they fixed that a bit in the last season.

Despite all that, I do like it Grin but I save my love for the likes of Community, Parks, The Office, Archer and Arrested Development, all way better IMO.

My friend told me that I had to watch it months ago, I watched first couple of episodes and thought that it couldn’t be the same programme that we were watching. Anyway it popped up on my recorded shows over Christmas and I binge watched it and I too fell in love with it. It is a bit of a slow starter but when it really gets going. I was crying and laughing it is heartwarming. Such clever writing and Moira is totally brilliant, her strange way of pronouncing words is addictive, I’ve started to do it. Going to watch it again and again.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 02/01/2021 22:02

I'm actually jealous of all the people who get to watch Season 4 for the first time.

Agree with all those who gave up after a couple of episodes, then gave it another go and fell in love.

Alexis is my favourite.

NoToMisogyny · 02/01/2021 22:55

There’s no reason why everyone would like it - a lot of comedies other people like leave me totally cold. But I love Schitt’s Creek.

TheChosenTwo · 02/01/2021 23:19

Oh no, my brother recommended this to me. Struggled through the first series and then a couple of episodes of the second series so I gave it a really good go but just found it all incredibly unfunny and blah. I didn’t laugh once.
Won’t attempt it again. Very lacklustre.

PringlesForBreakfast · 02/01/2021 23:29

Think we got to episode 6 in the end. Sorry SC fans, but still not feeling it.

I really want to love Moiras character, in particular...but I just don't Confused

I really love the concept. It's a genuis idea and it keeps almost getting there, but then just misses the mark for me.

I still want yo love it though Grin

Please stick with it.

I didn’t start enjoying it until half way through season 2.

Then, straight after the very last episode, I went back to Season 1 and rewatched it all.

It was quite funny seeing the beginning of their new life once you know how it all will unfold.

It’s now one of my favourite shows ever.

247SylviaPlath · 02/01/2021 23:46

Yes - stick with it. Just finished the last season and cried buckets. It gets better and better...

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/01/2021 01:05

Reading these comments is making my eyes water in a way that's similar to sharing stories of a very beloved character at their funeral/ wake. I miss them but I was blessed to have known them.

Yes ,it's a good show Grin.

Yeahnahmum · 03/01/2021 01:14

The first episode is the worst. But its only uphil from there. Its genius 😊

Kseason · 03/01/2021 03:06

Everyone, just skip S1 and start with S2. It’s the best thing I have seen in quarantine and it’s just so.. wholesome! But hated S1 though.

TuxedoPantherSheHer · 03/01/2021 03:18

Oh good yes. I watched the first episode about four years ago and gave up. We’ve binge watched it over Xmas, halfway through penultimate season ow. I love it!

lynsey91 · 03/01/2021 09:00

I watched series 1 and 2 and still thought it was pathetic and awful

PuppyMonkey · 03/01/2021 09:06

So I tried again last night and I think I’m no on episode 10 now. I just found myself getting distracted, didn’t hold my attention. Can I just skip to season 2 do you think? I believe there are 13 eps in the first season.

EngineeringFix · 03/01/2021 09:16

I watched the "little bit Alexis" scene on YouTube and found it cringy. I don't think it's for me.

TheChosenTwo · 03/01/2021 17:37

Blimey I don’t want to have to work so hard to enjoy a tv programme Grin
It has a massive following though, it’s loved by many, they won’t mind me not enjoying it!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/01/2021 17:55

@EngineeringFix

I watched the "little bit Alexis" scene on YouTube and found it cringy. I don't think it's for me.
It's supposed to be cringey. There is so much going on there. Jocelyn teaching Moira how to be a mother and Moira learning but also being honest. Alexis having been told she's awesome her whole nothingy life and now having a small glimpse into actually needing talent to do something. She eventually learns a great deal from school, Stevie, Ted, life and works really hard.

It's a small, funny scene that builds character. That's why we quote Schitts Creek, not because the quote is funny in itself. But because the quotes signify something. Like, all the best comedy, it's actually a tragedy. With laughs.
