Starts tonight at 9pm on ITV, apparently. I had no idea it was back!

And who was the dead chap Jenny was talking to on the bench? ( I missed the last series)

aleC4 · 20/01/2020 22:16

I think Adam and Rachel were due to adopt the girl but then she found out she was pregnant.
From what I remember, the social worker put a stop to the adoption because if the impact a baby might have on the little girl.

Delatron · 20/01/2020 22:17

He was a lovely fellow cancer patient who she struck up a close friendship with and then he sadly died.

That’s it! It was really sad as they were desperate to adopt her, we’re going to go to court etc but only agreed not to when the foster mother told them it wasn’t in Laura’s best interests.
The man on the bench was someone Jenbg met whilst having chemo, except he died.

Nanna50 · 20/01/2020 22:19

@aleC4 is right, that is what happened, they were planning to adopt the young girl in the flashback, not a baby.

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/01/2020 22:20

Adam and Rachel were on the verge of adopting, and then Rachel found out she was pregnant so the social workers put a stop on the adoption (despite A&R wanting it to go ahead).

I'm not sure potential adoptive parents would have known her full name though?

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/01/2020 22:20

X-post!

BodenGate · 20/01/2020 22:28

I think Adam just recognised her face. In their head she was already their daughter and they thought they could still go ahead with the adoption but they couldn’t because Rachel was unexpectedly pregnant. I can remember crying and thinking it was one of the saddest things I’d watched on television. I also cried when Rachel died.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2020 00:01

Tonight's episode was really good. It was funny. And I cried with Jenny.
And the boy about the daughter flashbacks was powerful. I don't remember that I was 12 when Cold Feet came out so I wasn't a big watcher . But I felt it

TheFastandTheCurious · 21/01/2020 08:24

Adam was friends with Pete as kids, and then obviously met Jenny. P&J's son was named after Adam. Rachel was Karen's friend from university, Rachel introduced Adam to Karen & David and David was particularly pompous to Adam.

I watched the first 5 original series many, many times

thecatsthecats · 21/01/2020 08:40

Wow, that's the first time in a couple of series this has really had my jaw dropping. Adam will go spare that Laura didn't get her happy ending. Pete said that she'd been in and out of the foster care system, didn't he?

I'm not a cryer at TV, and Laura was one of the few things that got me. (Plus oddly, the joy and surprise of everyone when Rachel turned out to be pregnant after all.)

Plus a very special mention to this bit of dialogue:

David: "My other ex wife"
Karen: "I prefer first wife"
David: "Yes, first ex wife"

The cancer story with Jenny is very well done. I’ve had breast cancer and recognise completely how she feels post treatment. Everyone expects you to be happy and move on and it’s actually the worse time.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2020 12:16

I can actually imagine feeling like that

WellGoshDarnIt · 21/01/2020 13:04

Loved the flashbacks last night - it particularly tickled me to see how beautifully James Nesbitt's hair has, ahem, regenerated in the intervening years Wink. It's quite astonishing.

VanGoghsDog · 21/01/2020 14:10

They made jokes about his hair at the start of this new tranche of series (is that series 8 or 7?). So it's in the show that he's had plugs.

MaddieElla · 21/01/2020 14:11

Where can I watch the first series?

I watched it as a teen but can only vaguely remember now that I'm very old

mnahmnah · 21/01/2020 19:24

@MaddieElla

They’re all on Netflix

MaddieElla · 21/01/2020 19:34

I've searched and can't find them. Confused

mnahmnah · 21/01/2020 19:42

Just checked myself and yes, they’ve gone! Looks like amazon prime has them

MaddieElla · 21/01/2020 20:23

Bugger. Sure they'll appear again at some point. Thanks! Smile

MsLumley · 21/01/2020 22:24

Anyone else see Sunetra Sarker in last night's show and remember her from series 2? She was a one-night stand of Adam's who discovered his swollen testicle that turned out to be cancer. Assume she's a totally new character now.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/01/2020 22:36

Oh yes I remember that now! Wonder if the show runners do too? It's blasts from the past all round for Adam.

Haven't seen this weeks yet but I loved Karen's shirt she was wearing last week when she met Adam in a restaurant - cream I think with pictures of boots on it

I need that shirt!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/01/2020 23:23

Yeah I met James Nesbitt - he was very standoffish and came across as very arrogant.

When I was at uni a few of us spotted in a nightclub in the city. He was very much ‘holding court’. He started giving a girl I knew the eye, so she went up to him and asked if she knew him from somewhere. He said ‘Yeah, I’m an actor - do you know Cold Feet?’ She said ‘Oh, yeah... I never watch that’ and walked off. My hero Grin

TheFastandTheCurious · 22/01/2020 09:45

Karen has some stunning clothes and I loved the dress Jenny wore to the pub quiz, really flattering.

It was nice to see Gemma Jones as Karen's mum, completely different person playing her but GJ played it well.
