I thought that "need you tonight" was out years before he even met Paula?

Todaythiscouldbe · 05/01/2020 21:45

It was diddl, I think pp was confused

BusterGonad · 06/01/2020 04:50

Does anyone know where I can stream this for free?

Trews2019 · 06/01/2020 05:09

BBC iPlayer

BusterGonad · 06/01/2020 06:19

I can't get that as I'm overseas (no vpn) but thank you.

I remember Paula on the The Big Breakfast Show - 1992-1994, (interviewing celebs on the bed) and she looked fit and fabulous then. Her decline appeared to coincide with MH. I can believe she was teetotal before she paired up with him.

Me too. I have a friend who didn't start taking drugs til she was in her forties (which also coincided with a destructive relationship). It's not unheard of.

Puppylucky · 06/01/2020 08:37

Oh, I stand corrected about Stuck in A Moment. I always thought that Bono wrote it for Paula Yates, as the lyrics, to me, speak to her situation more than MH's plus he refers to the subject of the song as Darling, Love and Baby.
Need You Tonight, was claimed by Paula Yates as for her, and was based on the on off flirtation/ relationship she had with Michael Hutchens, after they first met in 1985 - 2 years before the song was written.

PaprikaPringle · 06/01/2020 09:07

interesting interview with Paula Yates after MH's death. She wouldn't accept the suicide verdict.

diddl · 06/01/2020 09:25

If Paula first met MH in 1985, wasn't that before she married BG?

And only had the eldest daughter?

So not really anything to stop them getting together then?

BusterGonad · 06/01/2020 11:04

I've watched lots of you tube clips today, many with Paula in, you can tell that they liked each other, even on the interview on The Tube. She had gorgeous skin.

KatherineJaneway · 07/01/2020 08:14

I do remember the papers day after day having articles about MH and PY, it was endless

Me too, they were utterly hounded.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/01/2020 11:54

I think the issue with Paula Yates was that she set herself up as a combined earth mother/domestic goddess type. It was almost as if journalists were waiting for her to fall off her pedestal which she so spectacularly did when she met MH.

lolaflores · 07/01/2020 14:42

Being with BG, was a help and a hindrance to her. Vile things were said when their 1st child was born. Along the lines of"who needs another Geldof Bastard!"
Imagine
She was the 1st tv presenter I remember seeing hosting a show whilst pregnant. Not sure if a Blue Peter woman had done so as well but PY in a red satin dress, pregnant and on THE Tube.
She was gobby bright and got up some noses

PaprikaPringle · 07/01/2020 14:48

I'm not defending the media but PY was constantly selling stories to them during her time with MH and afterwards. They were her source of income.

noodlenosefraggle · 07/01/2020 18:16

I might be misremembering but wasnt Janet Ellis pregnant with Sophie Ellus-Bextor whenbshe did blue Peter?

IfThingsComeInThreesWhyThisNow · 07/01/2020 18:31

Tina Heath certainly was 79-80 with baby Gemma. One show included her scan. Viewers sent her loads of baby clothes.

IfThingsComeInThreesWhyThisNow · 07/01/2020 18:33

Ah, here you go: It is commonly believed that Ellis was sacked from the programme in 87 for being unmarried and pregnant with son Jackson, but in recent years Ellis has stated that she was fully supported by the Blue Peter production team and the decision to leave the programme was her own. [wiki]

I remember watching the show with baby Gemma and the scan ,I was 8 or 9.
