Anyone going to watch Michael Hutchence Mystify?

Im really looking forward to it. I was a huge fan back in my teens.

I felt quite sorry for Kylie, from the footage shown of her video love messages to MH she was clearly utterly besotted with him, I wonder if he ever sent any back to her? None were shown. What stood out to me is that when he ended it with Kylie, he was the one sobbing on the floor in distress, to me that’s a mark of a really selfish man, he wants to break up with her but it’s all about him, his pain, how he feels, Kylie left broken hearted and still none the wiser as to why it ended and bewildered to his behaviour. I don’t think he was the sensitive soul people think he was at all, he was sensitive for his feelings only I think.

I cant say I’m particularly keen on Bob Geldof either but I did notice in the credits it said “with thanks to Tiger Hutchence-Geldof” I know BG adopted her so his name would become hers also, but she has obviously decided to keep it in adulthood so I’m guessing she thinks he is ok.

@bettyboo, I described him as sensitive earlier as well as unfaithful and I think he was gorgeous but I too thought along similar lines to you about his behaviour when he split up with Kylie. I read an extract from a book the other day that claimed MH had already been seeing HC for 3 months when Kylie had that final meet up with him. The author claimed Kylie had heard he was cheating and they met up to discuss things!

Yes a fascinating and intriguing man.To me though his behaviours were narcissistic the way he 'loved' women - and then could leave them without obvious warning. He operated from full on needy, clinging seduction to devastating discard, and didn't appear to look back. Could mess you up I expect. Can't help but wonder if his intention was to discard Paula and move on, and maybe his attempt was thwarted.

Not the kind of person I admire. Fascinating all the same. Feel sorry for the women.

@BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo the notes they showed were ones he had sent to her. She said he called her by her mothers maiden name or the dogs name I think.
Publicity-wise he was much more famous than her. She was not long out of neigbours, from memory.

I was really talking more about the video messages not the handwritten notes, Kylie must have spent ages getting all those people to appear in her home movies of love declarations, no smartphones back then. To me, on what I saw, it appears that she made a huge effort to show her love for him. I think Kylie was as big, possibly a bigger star than MH, neighbours was huge, and she was the darling of the pop world, particularly in the U.K.

Kylie was definitely the woman of the moment, and she completely changed her image after they became an item. She really did want the world to know about her love for Michael Hutchence. Check out her "Better the Devil You Know" video where she constantly flashes the M ring that Michael gave her.

That makes sense especially as he went straight on to Helene Christensen who was also model of the moment and had a very high profile.

Kylie was huge when she was with MH but very much girl next door,this shine a different light on her especially the shagging on the plane etc.

I read a book written by a friend of Paula, called something like 'Paula, Michael & Me' or something. She was derogatory about Bob Geldof, saying he was lazy and expected Paula to earn the family money through her writing and presenting work. Apparently Paula was always stressed about making enough money. When she got with Michael she realised he wasn't a wealthy rock star at all. His management gave him a small stipend each month of just a few thousand which was just small change in rock star terms. But Michael had become used to a much more extravagant lifestyle whilst with HC because she was a multi millionaire of course. There was an anecdote about HC presenting Michael with half a dozen, custom made Hugo Boss suits. Paula felt under pressure to provide him with the same luxuries, but couldn't.

Well I used to be very anti- Geldof. The more I think about it - MH wasn't fit to parent - with the serious drug and alcohol taking lifestyle. There were real responsibility issues, and although I expect Geldof could be an overbearing bore, - I think he was more your dependable regular bloke. MH was 100% seduction in a relationship but didn't have the substance or reliability - or the integrity in my opinion.

Reading that, I assumed that might have been because he didn't write any of the songs but, just looked, and sees he was a co-writer. Was that just another notoriously bad contract?

I can't remember the details, but yes I think INXS were stuck in a really shitty contract. I seem to remember Paula Yates was shocked that he only 'earned' about 4000 per month.

I didn't know PY but read lots of her books & interviews, as well as stuff written about her by very close friends (eg Jo Fairley who found her after she OD'd & who was Tiger's godmother). She was famously teetotal & didn't even smoke dope before MH. I think she felt hounded by the media due to divorcing 'Saint Bob' and anxious about money & her waning media presence & maybe taking drugs gave her some respite as well as a bond with MH. It's very, very sad.

I can almost guarantee that wasn't the case. The Earth Mother and the tea total roles would've been just that,roles to deflect what was really going on. Quite common with addicts.

Peaches did the same. There was a huge long thread on here when she died with people refusing to believe she used drugs as she portrayed herself as such a good mother.

Yes, Peaches was an earth mother, didn't touch anything, and unfortunately that proved not to be true.

Not true. She took drugs and drank as a teen.

She may have tried substances as a teen but it was not significant and her real drug abuse began after being involved with MH fro what I have read.

Very odd to start doing hard drugs as a 30 something whilst caring for 3 children, just because your new boyfriend does.

age does not make you impervious to addiction or drug use. It can happen to anyone. At anytime. The mistake is thinking because you are an adult with responsibility you can handle it and see all the pitfalls...what harm can it cause. Then throw in all the pressure and drama with a man that make you feel insecure. Tje world hates you. All the conditions are there for disaster
