Good MOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRNNNNNIIIINNNNNGGG!
Firstly I'd like to say, and I KNOW this will come as a bit of a surprise, but I fucking fucking fucking FUCKING LOVE Peter Capaldi! He's just my absolutely most favourite actor ever and I thought I'd be feeling a bit of a downer knowing he won't be back next year in his glorious fully formed Richelieu presence, but I all honesty I'm actually just getting progressively more excited about him being The Doctor. He's going to nail that part and blow people's minds.
I think the ending was good for several reasons...obviously they didn't realise about Capladi leaving at that point so he's still part of the story in a big way which is actually good. Although we all know real cardinal Richelieu did die eventually in his late 50s I guess there is this possibly to written into the next series. It would be a big story and quite a clever way of writing him out, but I am hopeful he might make an actual appearance. He will be a hard act to follow. Generally for me each week he's really stood out, but it have to say they were all equally as brilliant yesterday! Even Aramis and his too perfect beard and his slightly permanent state of smugness.
The ending stayed so true to how it's always been, no complex relationships, no ridiculous story arcs, no bigger picture. Purely just what you see in front of you and it was clearly written in a way that they could conclude the story, but also leave it open...in other words they didn't know they were coming back for another series.
The production has been consistently stunning. Some really beautiful breath taking moments. The archway scene really did it for me last night even DH was staring in awe! The fight scene before it was fantastic. Those Musketeers really kick ass. I think Dog has definitely gone from feathery strokes into "over that coop NOW" and that is a bigger honour than any leather sleeve.
He is the only one missing a hat! I hope he has a hat for the next series. Yes his hair is lovely, but HE NEEDS A HAT.
I love Treville. He's been a great leader and all round good egg, but we haven't got to know hum too well. I wonder perhaps if this might change next series? He must have a history and a few stories behind him.
I thought Pertwee played a blinder. He's another fabulous actor, it's a shame he got it, but I guess we all knew that was coming no matter how hopeful I was he might stay!
Very glad Milady lived to heave her bosom another day! I thought the hatred Athos has for her is very believable. Their dynamics together really has been intense. He is superb and is very good at becoming really rather dark, sinister and uncontrolled. He's also very good at looking INCREDIBLY FUCKING SEXY!
I've just loved it. I've never had so much fun quite like this watching something before. I still say it's no Sherlock or Doctor Who, but it's so brilliant for what it is, which is just a good old RIDE! I really am so delighted there's more to follow.
