Victoria Coren-Mitchell - oh dear. Why did she wear that dress on the tv last night?

I am mystified as to why anyone with her money, and presumably access to advice, would wear that awful dress! It simply didn’t fit. She could not do it up and even DH noticed the very obvious VPL. Doesn’t anyone on Only Connect just say “No”?

I saw vc at a radio recording of Room 101 and she bought her handbag onto the stage with her which I thought was sweet. 😄

There will be crown fixing any minute now

I didn’t see it but she probably doesn’t care what anyone thinks about the way she looks or how she dresses. Even your husband.

She’s a clever and successful women and I cant imagine her being told what she can or can’t wear.

Absolutely!

I stopped believing this in my teens😂😂

Yes-I don’t believe @TooOrangeywill go and kill herself because she’s been exposed to the concept of feminism either.

I agree - I mean it's not really a thread that many can comment on without the picture ...

Then OP would have been lambasted for posting a picture AND criticising her. Let’s face it TV programmes do have hair, make up,wardrobe managers and although this isn’t Strictly someone will be responsible for the ‘look” of the presenter. Im sure she felt perfectly happy and thats fine but it did look an ill-fitting and crumpled mess to me. OP isnt saying she’s a bad person as a result

She can be this thinking woman's crumpet if she fancies.

She had a top on underneath. I thought she looked fine. Then again, I think she'd turn a straight woman so I'm not entirely unbiased.

Most people on telly wear things more fitted than say 20 years ago when VPL or a visible stomach silhouette was not done. Look at Sophie Willan on Sewing Bee, for example.

I'm not surprised Sophie Willan has a visible stomach silhouette on Sewing Bee. She was hugely pregnant when it was filmed 🤣. That might explain the Crocs as well. I think she's wonderful snyway.

'No idea who she is or what show she is on, and really don't care'

Well why did you bother clicking the thread then, let alone commenting, if it's all such a colossal waste of time 🤦🏻‍♂️

Because I wanted to.

OMG guess there's no accounting for taste!

It's the eyes. The eyes. 🥹 I think he and Miranda Hart have the loveliest eyes on television at the moment...

EYYYESSS! 😍

Much more importantly, one of the Connecting Walls was WAY harder than the other one. DH and I were up in arms.

Was it lion? It’s always harder than water I think! Not watched it yet.

I don’t really look at presenters and think about their clothes unless I want to find out where to buy something - I doubt VCM give a tiny rats wank to be fair. - she’s a smart, accomplished woman. And no one better come for Sophie!

RaininSummer · 01/09/2026 18:35

She wears some ghastly unflattering garments. Maybe she doesn't care.

A woman in the public eye isn’t going to please all of the people all of the time, so she might as well please herself

Definitely! Totally distracted from any other element of that round such as which contestants are surprisingly tall or who made bad knicker choices.

I had to give myself a crash course on Who The Hell Is Victoria Coren-Mitchell.

Answer: Presenter, author, married to David Mitchell. Extremely curvaceous, top heavy. Intelligent. Witty. Takes no shit. Feminist. Often wears tight dresses.

I like her 🙂

There are many reasons to admire VCM, and one of those is that she clearly wears what she wants. Some outfits I like, some I don't, but she likes them and thats what's important.

I cant believe I'm even answering this post. Such an unnecessary comment.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/09/2026 19:07

@AppropriateAdult Yes it was! However the VPL got in the way.

Yes, appearance does matter on tv in front of a huge audience. Why wear a dress that’s obviously too small? Does everyone honestly think that’s “being yourself” or just a bit self absorbed?

I'd suggest that people genuinely don't give a toss.

i can watch a woman on tv doing an excellent job doing what's she's paid to do and notice that her dress is tight/ or is a style I don't like/or is a colour I don't think suits her and that is literally that. I think no more about it.

Flinderskleepers · 01/09/2026 19:21

She did have fabulous shoes on though!

SheilaFentiman · 01/09/2026 19:37

I’’ll take an N for neither, please, Bob.

I’d like to take not-so-secret option 3: she likes the dress. It’s not that deep.

ThreadGuardDog · 01/09/2026 19:38

Victoria’s dad was Alan Coren. He was witty and intelligent. He took part in game shows and on one occasion he was asked about his favourite supermarkets. His answer was that he loved Sainsburys. ‘Because it kept the ‘riff raff’ out of Waitrose’. That was my favourite ever response on a game show - probably because it was tongue in cheek and wouldn’t be understood by many now. I love Victoria. She’s funny and intelligent - she has her dads’ wit. And I don’t understand why OP has started this thread.

vincettenoir · 01/09/2026 19:38

VCM likely has a huge amount of editorial control on that show. That’s clear from her end of show monologues and the fact she wore crazy outfits for a whole series as a tribute to Moira Rose. She doesn’t change her knickers or her dress on ‘advice’ from wardrobe. She’s absolutely the lifeblood of that show, a show which is unashamedly a place for misfits, and is calling the shots.

Vallies · 01/09/2026 19:44

I haven't seen these pictures and think she usually looks lovely but I have often thought female weather presenters have made very odd choices that don't fit properly and wondered why they are 'allowed to go on TV like that.

I always thought anyone in those kinds of roles had the benefit of stylists and am surprised if that's not the case.
