Victoria Coren-Mitchell - oh dear. Why did she wear that dress on the tv last night?

I am mystified as to why anyone with her money, and presumably access to advice, would wear that awful dress! It simply didn’t fit. She could not do it up and even DH noticed the very obvious VPL. Doesn’t anyone on Only Connect just say “No”?

She has had a long career of hosting TV
She probably doesn't give a shit if people know she wears knickers (shock horror)
She knows she's the thinking man's crumpet.

Oh ok. Thanks.

wherearemypeople · 01/09/2026 16:31

Why is VPL such a problem? I'd rather VPL than thinking she's worrying about what type of pants to wear in case, shock horror, people can see the outline.

hourspassed · 01/09/2026 16:31

I agree - I mean it's not really a thread that many can comment on without the picture ...

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 01/09/2026 16:31

Oh dear.

bababamama · 01/09/2026 16:35

She used to wear very safe options but this last couple of years she’s wearing more variety and some are definitely misses, I’m wondering if she has a different person sorting out her clothes for broadcast, remember they film multiple episodes a day and she changes each time, they arent her clothes i suspect. There was a particularly iffy jumpsuit a few episodes back, I’ve yet to watch last night’s yet, it’s on my sky box to watch

Yep...DH has a crush on her and so do other men I know. She's got boobs and brains...sadly I don't measure up on either level.
Although...I was chuffed I got a couple of them right last night 😁

Starlight7080 · 01/09/2026 16:38

What a depressing thread. Have we not moved forward at all as women.
Op maybe be less judgemental going forward and worry less about seeing the outline of people's underwear. Or the fit of a dress.

BirthdayTrash · 01/09/2026 16:38

Having been to a couple of recordings of her radio show in the last year I can tell you that she doesn’t take any shit from anyone and does it the way she wants to. Even the need for small retakes had to be explained to her before she agreed to do them. She came out with her third glass of wine, recorded a 30 min show in a little over 45 mins (others take HOURS), controlled the proceedings and had everyone laughing. Master of her craft.

(David was in the audience too and clearly completely enchanted with her.)

Lottapianos · 01/09/2026 16:38

She's got a difficult figure to dress because she's short and very curvaceous. I've seen the offending dress and I wouldn't describe it as flattering. I don't know whether she just isn't interested in clothes at all, or just likes what she likes and doesn't really care how many style boxes it ticks. Good for her either way 🤷🏻

nomas · 01/09/2026 16:38

I'm not a fan of VCM but her dress was fine.

She has a bottom so you will see the shape of her bottom, it's not necessarily VPL.

And even if it's her knicker line, so what? When did a knicker line become offensive?

HorseandHeron · 01/09/2026 16:38

Because I'm sad and avoiding work (self-employed) I just checked it out on i-player. Meh. It's a bit tight and she is a little bit plump. So what? She likes wearing figure hugging clothes - she doesn't go for Kirsty-style shirtwaisters and clearly refuses to wedge herself into painful shaper underwear.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2026 16:39

I watch this programme every week and I can't even remotely recall what she was wearing. Often, I do notice as she is built a bit like me but yesterday nothing registered.

She's bright, funny, somewhat eccentric, warm - and looks like a real person.

Master of her craft Grin

No way.

Elfbeth · 01/09/2026 16:40

I was watching and can’t remember what she wore or noticed any VPL. I just aim to get one or two correct- and bonus points for me if I get one that the contestants didn’t! 😀

Any male presenters you want to critique..

LilloLil · 01/09/2026 16:40

Did you know your husband prefers the knickerless in his quiz show hosts?

Ah this is great to read 😁 love her and David together. I've got a big crush on him but I'm not even jealous coz him and Victoria are such a good match!

Citronella321 · 01/09/2026 16:40

I can't imagine she gives many fucks.
Good for her.

Scout2016 · 01/09/2026 16:41

None of us are likely to know how she came to wear said dress or what conversations were had in advance so the "why?" part of your OP is just a lever in to slag her appearance off.

Why have you gone to the time and effort of starting a thread to slag off another woman's appearance? Is there not enough of that happening already?

TooOrangey · 01/09/2026 16:41

She always looks like she’s squeezed herself into something a size or 2 too small. Must be uncomfortable.

Having said that, my (male) colleague thinks she’s gorgeous. He’s also been known to lust after Nigella. He likes a curvy type.

This would have been a much better thread with pictures.

This would have been a much better thread without being posted simply to criticise the appearance of another woman.

Westfacing · 01/09/2026 16:43

If you start such a thread on Style & Beauty shouldn't you post a photo so we can have a look?

Agree!

Leave to woman alone - although I doubt she gives a fig - rightly so.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 01/09/2026 16:44

What a bitchy thread, nothing worse than women attacking women for their clothes and as for the comment she knows what she’s doing, how utterly disturbing,

ChelseaBagger · 01/09/2026 16:45

Victoria Core Mitchell is a goddess among women, and there's nothing she could wear or you could say that would convince me otherwise.

GlensHutchisonsRobertsonsStephek · 01/09/2026 16:45

I don't think it's that awful to critique a dress. It's not criticising a person's face or figure. I've commented on a poorly fitting suit on a man - not to them obviously.

What is awful is starting the thread without a picture of the dress.
