What to wear to Wimbledon in your mid fifties

I’m looking for suggestions of what to wear to Wimbledon, I’m trying to move away from my previous few summer’s uniform of midi dresses.
I am mid 50’s, need petite range and want to look as nice as I can as it’s a special day for my DH and I.

Are you in Debentures? Tends to be a bit more dressy but anything goes really. Flowery dress or tailored trousers with blouse is perfect.

Sounds like you totally deserve it!! Lucky you. You'll totally smash it 😉

I don't equate people who get dressed ip at a sporting event with drunkeness and bad behaviour.

There is a lot of drinking at the tennis which is a nuisance, especially when the drinkers are forever having go out to the toilets and disrupting other spectators. And also being nosy.

The peole who treat a sporting even just as an opportunity to dress up and show themselves off are a different issue altogether. Why go to a sporting event if its just another social occasion where you can show off? Why not leave it for people who are actually interested in the sport? I dont understand their inflated egos and self absorption.

Have you seen what some people wear to the F1? Yeesh! But tennis has always had a social side. Join a country club, meet for couples tennis or a ladies round robin, then have lunch and gossip about who’s getting a divorce.

I really dislike everything about F1 - when the Christian Horner saga was in the news it was difficult to avoid hearing about it The sport itself plus the life style is something alien to me , so it's something I would never ever contemplate attending.

I understand what you say about the social side of tennis clubs . Same for cricket clubs and rugby clubs.

I just feel that Wimbledon is the opportunity to watch some of the most talented and greatest exponents of the sport. And it seems like a total lack of respect for the sports people if the most important thing about attending the event for a spectator is what they themselves are wearing. It just smacks of self importance and ego.

@AnonymityAnonymity you are so determined to keep digging yourself into that hole! No-one, literally no-one has said or implied that what they wear to Wimbledon is more important than the tennis. That's really something you've made up. It's just that - repeating obvious information here - this is the STYLE AND BEAUTY board. So someone going to Wimbledon who may well absolutely bloody adore and revere tennis and ALSO want to wear a nice frock when they go is going to come along here TO DISCUSS THE CHOICE OF CLOTHING. Not to discuss how important the tennis is because it's not the place for that. Can you really not see that this doesn't mean the clothing is being held up as more important than the tennis? Really? REALLY?
Or are you just incapable of gracefully backing down?

It would seem so @PhaedraTwo . I feel sad that @ForBusyOliveBear 's thread was hijacked, except I think some of the debate is actually worthwhile.

Of course it's a woman, not a "bloke" - a very beautiful woman at that, with enviable cheekbones.

And I wasn't recommending something that you think is "hideous" - that wasn't the point of my post. I was replying to another poster saying that I think jumpsuits are considered fairly normal pieces of clothing these days.

I realised the model was a woman when I zoomed in on the photo.
I’m free to comment as much as you are. Don’t be so tetchy. 🙄

AnonymityAnonymity · 18/06/2026 13:32

@TemporarilyCantDoMyself

I totally stand by my view point but I will agree to differ because I really don't think there is any point saying anything else when the difference is basically about values and attitudes to life and I don't embrace the same ones as the majority of posters in Style and Beauty seem to.

It also confirms her insecurities.

She’s had to invent a position whereby well-dressed tennis lovers - ie, all the players as well as many of the spectators - must be about appearance. Because that’s all she can cope with.

Aluna · 18/06/2026 13:57

It’s a shame that someone is trying trash a support thread for a fellow tennis lover.

Please explain how saying I have different values and approach to life equate to arrogance, inflated ego and complete lack of self - awareness. ???

It patently obvious from my posts v other posters that I have a very different approach to life from.the usually one displayed on this board. If I had no self awareness I would not recognise the fact. And having a different point of view doesn't equate to arrogance. I am exercising my right to come to my own conclusions.

This thread has turned into something quite bonkers. I really wish people not interest in Style and Beauty would stop feeling it necessary to post on this board.

It is possible to go to Wimbledon to enjoy the tennis whilst thinking about what to wear. We’ve been gifted debenture tickets by a client of my husband’s. This includes restaurant access. You bet your bottom dollar we’re going to dress up - we’d stick out a mile if we didn’t. It’s a complete treat and it would just be rude not to. It doesn’t devalue us as people who like tennis but realise there’s a dress code for this sort of thing. We’re also really excited to see some great tennis.

Quite.

Do you know yet what you're going to wear?

80smonster · 18/06/2026 17:12

Polo t-shirt dress in cotton. Smart and comfortable.

I do, I think. I posted it upthread. It’s from Me & Em. I bought it a while ago but haven’t had anywhere to wear it. This one

The only thing that puts me off is that it’s quite likely to not be the only one. I wore a Me & Em dress to my son’s graduation and someone else (thinner, so looked better) had the same one. 🤨

That is lovely. I'm still undecided and watching the weather like a hawk. We're going on the 29th and weather a bit more mixed now.
It will be fun whatever the weather.

I’m totally with you! I actually think people on this thread have been quite nasty to you for expressing a different opinion to theirs. Which kind of backs up the point you’ve been making!! Interestingly, I’ve been at Queens today so had a good look at people’s clothes! The one or two very dressed up people (even in corporate seats) looked very over dressed. A simple every day summer dress or loose wide leg trousers where definitely the way to go….

AnonymityAnonymity · 19/06/2026 19:24

Thanks @noidea02

Gosh lucky you being at Queen's today!

I didn't get chance to watch it on TV but I was following Arthur Fery's match with great interest. He did so well beating Mannarino in his previous match. Pity he didn't manage a win to day but well done him!

It was a lovely day but very hot!! Arthur Fery played really well
and could easily have won!
