What to wear to Wimbledon in your mid fifties

ForBusyOliveBear · 12/06/2026 21:19

I’m looking for suggestions of what to wear to Wimbledon, I’m trying to move away from my previous few summer’s uniform of midi dresses.
I am mid 50’s, need petite range and want to look as nice as I can as it’s a special day for my DH and I.

I can’t think of anything nicer than a dress - whatever length, for long hours of sitting in warm weather. Much nicer than most summer trousers.

I like this very much:

https://roandzo.com/collections/petite/products/petite-green-stripe-racer-neck-tie-back-dress-with-linen

Or this, if you prefer a different shape:

https://roandzo.com/collections/petite/products/petite-green-stripe-linen-wrap-dress

And this is excellent:

https://roandzo.com/collections/all/products/raya-blue-gingham-square-neck-dress

(I haven’t bought from this brand but the clothes seem well designed, in nice fabrics. You could probably find good separates here too, if you’d really prefer them.)

I think the second one would suit me.

Most people I know who've been wear normal everyday clothes.
Trousers, jeans, dresses etc.

When I went the weather was awful - rain and cold- and I wore trousers, a shirt and a trench coat.

I'd decide on the day. It needs to be practical. It's not always warm.

If you want to do 'posh' look at Me&Em, but Boden has some nice dresses if you ignore all the garish patterns, and you can filter them by pattern, colour etc.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 13/06/2026 13:52

If I was going to Wimbledon and wanted to treat myself to a dress I'd buy one or other of these probably. Not hugely expensive but I like them, one's cotton and one's cotton/linen, both come in petite.

They are lovely and both available in petite, thank you.

You need to watch the weather forecast. You won't want bare legs and floaty dresses if it's 12C and heavy rain.

cookbookjunkie · 13/06/2026 13:57

Some wide legged linen trousers, some nice trainers or chunky flattish sandals depending on the weather, a smart T shirt or soft blouse, a blazer or loose jumper over your shoulders, in case needed. A casual hat. Sunglasses. Pack -up raincoat. Sunblock for your nose.

WimbyAce · 13/06/2026 14:34

You can wear what you want tbh, it ranges from super casual to dressed up. I have worn a multitude of things depending on the weather, could be anything from gloves and scarf to a flimsy summer dress 😂

Woodfiresareamazing2 · 13/06/2026 14:44

Depending which day you're going, there could be play until late in the evening, so do take some layers if that's the case.

You did say you wanted to look beyond a midi dress, in which case I would look for a linen mix trouser suit.
Depending on your colouring, chocolate brown would be a good colour choice, and it's a trending colour this season so should be widely available.
Buy a reasonable quality, as it will hold it's shape better.
Choose more of a statement piece blouse or top, or go classic with a white shirt.
Choose either classic jewelry, or maybe a statement piece with the white shirt option.
Take a really smart leather tote bag for a light jumper or wrap, some kind of head wear, sunglasses, umbrella and sunscreen (as weather demands).
Have a great day!

Thank you and good point I really don’t want to resort back to my midi dress look.

What is wrong with wearing a dress?

hallenbad · 13/06/2026 15:15

Assuming you’re in a debenture or members’ area - particular on centre - I’d say midi or maxi rather than short. Linen separates look good too. Flat shoes advisable as suggested. Especially if you are in the Rosewater pavilion or whatever they are calling the one across the road these days! Hat (against the sun not formal!) light jacket/blazer or woollen as it can get cool in the evenings. Since it all picked up on the socials I’ve found it is a bit smarter as even youngsters queuing are dressing up for photos etc. There was a noticeable trend last year of guests in the smarter areas (particularly women) wearing white or light colours too. I’ve been embracing this a bit (it was hot last year) with dresses from rails, maje etc. If the weather is good I expect that might continue this year.
pretty much all the above is optional as outside the members/debentures areas you will still see plenty of the hardcore with backpack and hiking trainers and a raincoat!

gianfrancogorgonzola · 13/06/2026 15:20

have different options ready for different weather! it can be raining and cold, windy, crazy hot

I've worn:
floral miniskirt with silk top / blazer plus trainers
rixo maxi dress with sandals and a big basket bag
white jeans with silk top, blazer and tote
navy linen dress from me and em and a wide brimmed hat (for moving around the grounds NOT when seated - that was last year, it was high 30s and almost unbearable we were so glad to be in the shade of the roof people in the full sun were fainting)

nothing looks out of place. do you have a deb ticket / hospitality?

Yes a hospitality ticket and lunch etc at The Lawn Club.

lovely! you will have such a fab day. Depending on your budget I would look and me and em and the NaP sale / the outnet. both have lovely occasion dresses. flat shoes are fine, you don't need to wear heels, but I would go for slightly demure over overtly sexy / flashy.

That makes a difference to your question.
I though you meant you were one of the crowd , not going to the Club.

Thatfattrollop · 13/06/2026 16:03

I don’t have anything to suggest beyond the lovely dresses mentioned already - I love the roandzo 2nd and 3rd links, the plain white Reiss/next one and the love and roses dresses. I’ve not been to Wimbledon for many years (I saw Agassi win in the 90s then Sampras came on the scene and the tennis turned dull) but we always dressed up and I think/hope the majority still do. Different perhaps if it’s raining and you’re on the outside courts. Have a wonderful time!

Bookloveruk · 13/06/2026 18:54

Have a wonderful time. My advice is wear something that is comfortable as it can be a long day. Its great to go early and soak up the atmosphere. Then you could have 3 matches with play late into evening so have something to wear if it get chilly. I took a flat pair of shoes with me when I went to see the museum and shop so you may want to consider. Enjoy

What type of outfits do ladies wear when you do the corporate thing?

I linked the dress I’m wearing above.

I’m going this year for the first time. We have an early and long train down on the morning so didn’t want to go too dressy. I have feet issues so need to wear comfy flats so that’s lots of dresses out. I also hate my legs sticking together in heat.
Eventually I stumbled on a nice soft knee length pair of white shorts, chunky belt and a blue blazer. It has that Wimbledon feel but not too try hard. Can wear so many shoe styles. For reference I’m 38 but it would work in many age brackets, see the below for example

How to Wear a Blazer With Shorts

Here's a modern way to wear a blazer with shorts that will take you to a baby shower, dinner out, graduation, or a wedding shower.

FlipFlopVibe · 13/06/2026 19:32

Just seen you are in hospitality…may want to go for a linen trouser suit in pale colour then or a jumpsuit if not wanting a dress

Sulgari · 13/06/2026 21:16

Annabel Croft was looking lovely today on the Queen’s coverage

Honestly you do not need to dress up for Wimbledon! It depends on court and where you are sitting. If you are going to be exposed to sun do not wear a sundress - cover your shoulders or you will fry!! I’d wear thin comfy trousers and a top/t-shirt with trainers. And a sunhat that is not to wide brimmed or you’ll annoy everyone around you. I am lucky enough to go every year and honestly hardly anyone dresses up!! If you want a simple summer dress then great but nothing too smart or you’ll look totally over the top!!

Does it matter if she looks over-the-top, though? I'd much rather be overdressed than underdressed! (And have been, on numerous occasions over the years!)

Nothing wrong with wearing something lovely that you feel & look great in. And it's a "special day" for the OP, so I think that definitely merits a special outfit ...

Agreed!

I don’t know why those with no interest in dressing up or dressing well frequent style and beauty tbh

I found some of the answers a bit strange too. I’m on the right board asking for advice about something that is important to me. I’m not someone who would wear an Ascot outfit to a school sports day.
