What to wear to Wimbledon in your mid fifties

I’m looking for suggestions of what to wear to Wimbledon, I’m trying to move away from my previous few summer’s uniform of midi dresses.
I am mid 50’s, need petite range and want to look as nice as I can as it’s a special day for my DH and I.

Glad you agree they have many of them and as it’s summer a lot of them are short, so what?. And Sezane is for women around 30. Not for babies. You’re spouting utter nonsense.

Sezane jumpsuit for babies...

The feminist in you should buy it!

I'm glad that people have commented on the fans. They're such useful things if you run hot - which I always did, long before menopause! And there are absolutely loads around now.

Absolutely. Some very sensible people had them at a wedding I went to during the recent hot spell, I only had the order of service. A fan would have been much more elegant.

@sohard Nowhere near as many as 10 years ago! You just don’t see smarter people wearing them now. Definitely past their sell by date. I cannot remember the last time I saw a fashion article advising one - mainly because we all know the loo is a faff!

I don't think it's "peak jumpsuit" anymore, so it might well be the case that there are fewer in the shops - I've no idea. But if so, I think that's because they're seen as quite a classic piece of clothing now, rather than high fashion?

Me+Em are well-known for theirs, as are Reiss, & there are plenty on websites like COS, Toast, Whistles, Boden, M&S etc. There were lots to be seen in Milan fashion week. And at Victoria Beckham, MaxMara, The Frankie Shop, Farm Rio, Zimmermann ...

I don't really wear them these days as I have too much weight around my middle, & I dislike the children's TV presenter styles ... but I do like the elegant 70s-ish ones! If I lose some weight, I might even try on this VB for Gap version!! But I do also need to get past my fear of the zip getting stuck when I'm in the loo & dying for a pee ... 😶

Just the thought of wearing a jumpsuit makes me need the loo ...

Which dress are you going with, OP? I think you might need this fan ... (how much?!!)

This fan is gorgeous, but a wee bit pricey for something I could accidentally leave on the train.

I know - it's ridiculously priced - but so lovely I just had to post it!

I quite like the glitter version and it almost looks like a bargain compared to the leopard print.

One of the first threads I ever read on Mumsnet, must be 18 years ago , was about the dreaded plastic seat + thin man-made fibre dress = wet patch shame at hot outdoors school speech days. Just tossing that in there.

as a result, I always wore silk jersey DVF which I am delighted to report gave me no issues. And the creases dropped right out as well

I always sat on my cardi.😁 Good problem solving skills.

Also useful-ish for the Minnack if you forget a rug.

I have seen people turned away from the Members Enclosure for wearing trainers so just be aware of that if the weather is looking dodgy and you need to change footwear. Also seen men refused entry for not wearing socks (with loafers) on a hot day (even if in blazers and ties).

I thoroughly approve of anywhere that refuses entry to men wearing loafers and no socks. Go AELTC 😂

I know it's a bit of a Eurotrash look but it was a very hot day and women get away with bare feet/legs in sandals.

What is it with MN & jumpsuits?

Are you on a show court (ie one with a roof)? It makes a huge difference, because for outside courts you need practicality, layers and a roomy bag.
For Centre or Number One, you can be a bit more dressed up, but do factor in the 15 minute walk to/from the Tube station.
Comfortable shoes, always.
Most people are not particularly dressed up (unless the corporates, and they are buried away) - if anything, don't overdress, or you will just look foolish.
It's a long day, if you arrive for gates opening, which I recommend - you could easily be there for 9 or 10 hours so comfort needs to be the absolute top priority.

I agree with this OP: too dressed up looks a bit awkward.

Increasingly I feel midi dresses are looking a bit dated and all the fluid trouser options look more polished. Teamed with smart trainers you will be comfortable - and will look it, in both sense of the word.

There are not many people they suit. They all too often resemble boiler suit rather than anything chic.

I was in hospitality last year, in the Treehouse which i think was above The Lawn. I wore a jumpsuit, with flat ballet pumps. Wimbledon can be a long day - so dress for comfort and well as looking nice.
I'd say wear flats or wedges not heels.
There was a mixture of nice summer dresses/trousers & tops/jumpsuits etc.
Nothing especially fancy.
Enjoy x

Wedges are a good suggestion. They give a bit of formality but without that tottery look.

Well it would have helped if OP had first mentioned in post 1 rather than post 11 that she is in a VIP hospitality suite.

Oh is she? That would have been helpful!

Exactly.

This is yet another thread on what to wear for Wimbledon.

I'm going to Wimbledon but I'm going to watch the tennis for heaven's sake.

Why do people have to turn every thing into a fashion show?

I don't know - is there a big deal made of them here? In what way - pro-jumpsuit or anti-jumpsuit?!!!

I can't say they're a clothing item I think about much - I only replied to the PP above because they said that jumpsuits were well past their sell-by date, when I think it's just that they've become more mainstream. I think I will always prefer a dress ...

I think you might have inadvertently taken a wrong turn, & wandered from the Sports section into the Style & Beauty forum by mistake ...
