What are you wearing for your Christmas parties this year? I’m in need of some inspiration. I’ve got a couple of things coming up – both are more “going out” than formal, so nothing too dressy. I’m 50 and trying to find the right balance!

Any ideas welcome! :-)

I’ve just planned my outfits this morning - I only have 3 nights out -I’ve turned down a lot this year as I’ve decided not to run myself into the ground so no more than one a week - last year I had 3 nights out in a row and I can’t do that anymore in my 50s!

My most dressy event, fancy hotel type Xmas meal, I’m wearing a chocolate brown velvet midi dress with feather sandals and a fur jacket.

I also have a midi sequin skirt to wear with an assymetric lace cami and blazer for a pub type night out.

Then the least formal event, I’ve got some huge oversized distressed jeans with knee high suude brown slouchy boots and a fitted waist wool blazer with a velvet cami.

Will use the same oversized chocolate brown suede clutch bag for all 3 outfits I think.

Feather sandals?
Or was it a typo?

I’m near your age and had my first one on Friday night. Wore white wide leg tailored trousers and a black lacy silk cami.

In answer to @Foxy200 I have just one do this year and will wear my Dancing Leopard Dove navy blue dress with white stars on. I bought it three years ago and have only worn it a handful of times.

I am only on this thread to see what everyone else is wearing and to see the feather sandals. I am going nowhere glamorous but love to look at the clothes.

A 1960s cocktail dress. Probably overkill for the dos I'm going to but I've not been out late at night all year.

I'm planning on either:

a silver sequin mini skirt with black jumper, black tights and heeled suede ankle boots (I have some of the latter on order to replace my much loved but ancient ones, which have had to be binned)

a black knee length dress with gold print with black tights and either the boots above, if they're decent, or black over the knee suede heeled boots

black jeans and a bronze sequin jacket with boots as above

I'm not going to many parties, but I'd be happy to wear any of this just down the local pub too, maybe replacing heels with DMs.

the feather sandals are like these but in a brown shade. I can’t link mine as they’re a few years old.

I am wearing a gold sequin dress with red velvet block heel shoes to my work party with a fake fur jacket on top. I will be way overdressed but I don't care.

My only other outing is a date night at a Michelin star restaurant and Ib

Both the dress and skirt are last year's M and S bought cheap BNWT from Vinted.

Are those fake leather trousers still in? If so, I’ll probably wear those.

Depends on the occasion, but I bought a beautiful Chanel-style sequin dress from Albaray (bought on offer) - this is the dressier of my options and I plan to wear on Christmas Day.

For low key Christmas dinner at the pub with work team, I bought a black sequin blouse from George Asda of all places!

I also have a red Chinti & Parker Christmas jumper for various things like Christmas arts and crafts evening out, Christmas jumper day, Christmas lights evening etc…

I'm a bit of a traditionalist so for Christmas it's always 'swaddling clothes' for me.

Thank you. They're all old favourites. None of them will set the world on fire, fashion-wise, but I like them and they suit me.

Long sleeve sequin top Just got this in the sale for £22 to go with M&S aubergine wide leg trousers.
For the pub I will wear bronze sequin midi skirt with black jumper and boots that got lots of compliments last year.
And also a gold lurex victorian style blouse with dark denim jeans.
For the My Life Story gig coming up in December I will wear a gold sequin mini dress and DMs - because I will sparkle!

Actually for the first do, which will be pretty low key, I'll probably stick to velvet flares and lurex top, which was the original plan. But after that, I'm upping the ante.

I'm nearly 50 and know what you mean OP. I've just got this top which I think will be useful for festive occasions. I don't normally wear polyester/nylon but make an exception for eveningy wear. It'll go with various trousers and jeans I've got.

I dont have any parties although I'll be seeing my dad and probably going out for a meal.and seeing my son and his family too.

I have 3 pairs of black.velvet trousers and a teal velvet tshirt, I.also have a number of Christmas tops so I'll wear one of these

This green dress/belt from last year from Boden and a pink version from 2023 for another party.

I am wearing this M&S waistcoat with a pair of black jeans that have a shimmer through them from Massimo Dutti. I have plain black jeans if it looks too much. Both sale buys last year.
