When will people stop tucking their tops in at the front of jeans etc

I thought this would be one of those things that wouldn’t last long because people would realise how stupid it looks, but it showing no signs of stopping. Like the woman in this photo. I can’t be the only one who thinks this half tucking thing looks really, really silly. Can I?

I think the woman in the photo looks fine.

Seen so many threads about this French tuck thing. I get your point.
It's how my toddler sons end up looking when their shirt comes undone at a party 😂

Me too

I do it and I’m not going to stop. It doesn’t look silly. I don’t want to tuck a big jumper in all the way around like I’m five years old 🤣.

But tucking slightly at the front (I believe it’s called a French tuck) adds a bit of shape/drape to the lines of my outfit and allows for easier pocket access.

I do hear it’s not fashionable anymore and very “millennial” but luckily I don’t care about that.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 27/09/2025 08:59

It’s a French tuck isn’t it? It’s been around for a long time, it might go back out of fashion but I remember people doing it back in the 80s so bcwill never vanish. practically it’s so you don’t get holes in tops from leaning against jeans button.

RandomUsernameHere · 27/09/2025 08:59

She looks good.

She does and i really like that shirt

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/09/2025 09:00

I’m sure we used to do it in the nineties too. Don’t do it if you don’t like it, I can’t believe anyone actually gets upset about what’s in fashion if they don’t like it- just don’t do it! No one cares Confused

Enough4me · 27/09/2025 09:01

Why does it bother you so much OP?
Is it something you have tried but your too kept falling out or reminds you of someone who was unpleasant?

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 27/09/2025 09:03

I like it.

If you don’t like it, I don’t understand why you’d care if anyone else does it?

Nitgel · 27/09/2025 09:04

I've always done it. Makes me look less fat

Onelifeonly · 27/09/2025 09:06

It certainly doesn't "look silly" in that photo. I don't 'tuck' as I'm short in the body but I do tie the two front ends of loose shirts sometimes just below my waist when I want to look more stylish / shapely from the front. And I like the bum coverage behind!

GingerBeverage · 27/09/2025 09:06

People can like things.

Each to their own - I think it looks really silly and very unoriginal.it's such an over done look.

MagicalMystical · 27/09/2025 09:08

I must be so behind the times. I did this for the very first time this week after buying a jumper in Vinted that was that that bit too oversized and I thought ‘oh I know, I could try that new tuck in at the front’ 🤣🤣

Clearly I’ve missed the memo that it’s been and gone, but it made the jumper wearable and I felt ‘modern’ and stylish for following fashion. 😂😂

But clearly people like you were judging me harshly for it…!

MaryBeardsShoes · 27/09/2025 09:08

It looks stylish but I don’t like it because it always comes across to me as forced and deliberate. I sometimes try it and then feel like a fool and untuck before I leave the house. I don’t see it in real life very often to be honest.

Gettingbysomehow · 27/09/2025 09:08

I never do it because its too much faff retucking properly every time you go to the loo. I just want to put clothes on without having go rearrange them every 5 minutes in a complicated way. I currently have on jeans and a tight fitting longer length jumper. It looks fine.
I've seen people tuck whole thick jumpers into their trousers. They must be very skinny it would make me look like a teletubby.

Definitely in the 90s. It was one of the few things I got in trouble for at school.

I like it.

Iamafricalikebono · 27/09/2025 09:09

I’ve been a fan for years, I used to try and do something similar with my school shirt.

PuppyMonkey · 27/09/2025 09:09

I’m not really upset, there’s no need to worry about me. I just don’t understand it.

In what way does it make someone look less fat?

It just looks very wrong and unbalanced to me.

I do it, looks great

LaurieFairyCake · 27/09/2025 09:11

It makes people look ‘less fat’ as it gives definition to the waist.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/09/2025 09:13

I don't think it looks stupid but if you don't like it don't do it. Why do you care what other people look like?

AzurePanda · 27/09/2025 09:14

I like it and do it all the time. For me the shirt in the photo is a bit too voluminous but I still think she looks great.

I have a small waist but am pear shaped so need to highlight it or looks much bigger but dislike the look a completely tucked in casual shirt.
