When will people stop tucking their tops in at the front of jeans etc

I thought this would be one of those things that wouldn’t last long because people would realise how stupid it looks, but it showing no signs of stopping. Like the woman in this photo. I can’t be the only one who thinks this half tucking thing looks really, really silly. Can I?

Why on earth does it matter if it looks “unoriginal”. I wear clothes that I like the look of, fit well and style it in a way that suits my shape. I don’t care if everyone or no one is doing it.

I do a French tuck as I’m super short so it draws attention to my slimmest part and allows the length of the jeans to be visible to elongate my shape.

If the woman in that photo looks "bad" to the MN hive mind, then what hope is there for the rest of us 😭

Well it’s pretty clear from this thread I’m NOT the MN hive mind. So you’re all right for a bit. Grin

See to me, it doesn’t draw attention to the slim waist, it draws attention to the tummy/crotch area. Even on that lovely model in my pic, I just think it looks awful showing off the crotch of her jeans.

Well, that's high rise for you. However, having some billow behind her draws attention to that too, so overall, it's the flattering waist and some interesting detail behind that make the look.

flippyflopss · 27/09/2025 09:48

Its not a new thing we use to do it in the late 80s and 90s.
I still do.

hotpot444 · 27/09/2025 09:49

I really like that look. Sadly, I’m nowhere near as lovely-looking as that model, I have a short torso and a c-section overhang. I’m looking for ways to cover that area and for body shaping garments that don’t squeeze the life out of me.

Each to their own - I think it looks really silly and very unoriginal.it's such an over done look.

Surely all tucks or non tucks are over done. There cant be that many options!

mirrorsandlights · 27/09/2025 09:55

I prefer the half tuck myself. It stops everything looking so blocky around my middle.

nameobsessed · 27/09/2025 09:56

The tuck takes an outfit from un-styled and frumpy to polished and flattering. I will never stop 😄.

Lanva · 27/09/2025 09:58

If I looked like the woman in that picture I would be delighted. I'd be completely untroubled by your tuck-related commentary! 😂

orangejacketlamp · 27/09/2025 09:59

I tuck it in now because I lost weight on Mounjaro and now I’m confident and it feels good

OdeToTheNorthWestWind · 27/09/2025 10:02

I think, like most fashions, it looks great on some people but would make me look as though I got dressed from a skip.😬 It does remind me of a phrase my grandma used to use back in the dark ages though:

"Youll never be a Scout with your shirt hanging out!"

If the jeans fit properly it shouldn’t be a problem. Or do you mean that the area between waist and thighs should never be on view? Then tunics and dresses are your friend. Other people may feel differently.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 27/09/2025 10:12

I'll stop doing it exactly the moment I feel like it.

Jojoanna · 27/09/2025 10:13

I like it 💁‍♀️

Tucking is your thing all round judging by your name. Grin

So would you tuck this shirt in all the way round or leave it out?

EatMoreChocolate44 · 27/09/2025 10:21

I like it. I think it shows off your waist. I always do a little french tuck

Lotsofsnacks · 27/09/2025 10:26

Who cares? Some people like tucking in jumpers, some don’t, do what you want and let others do their thing. This look is in fashion at the moment but sure it will be old hat in a few years like everything. But at the moment it looks really current and stylish

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/09/2025 10:27

I like it, and I do it. Each to their own.

whatsit84 · 27/09/2025 10:27

Oh I’d not seen the half tuck! I do a full tuck in with some items because I like the silhouette better. Does the hanging back not get all creased when you sit?

AmyDuPlantier · 27/09/2025 10:28

Why do people wander into S&B and berate a poster for starting a discussion about style?!

If you just want to be snide and bicker, AIBU is over that way 👉

queenMab99 · 27/09/2025 10:32

I have never liked it, it looks too elaborately casual, and gives a self obsessed look.
I always think 'look at her with her shirt half tucked, who does she think she is' I am a bitter old boomer, with no tolerance for French tucks, or trench fucks either 🤣

PersephonePomegranate · 27/09/2025 10:35

Nitgel · 27/09/2025 09:04

I've always done it. Makes me look less fat

Edited

Exactly what I was going to say. It gives definition.

Well you might not like it as a look, but you must realise it's not a moral failing.

GeorgeMichaelsMicStand · 27/09/2025 10:35

Of all the things to get in a stew about :)) French tucking wasn’t compulsory last time I looked and what people wear is none of your business :))
