I thought this would be one of those things that wouldn’t last long because people would realise how stupid it looks, but it showing no signs of stopping. Like the woman in this photo. I can’t be the only one who thinks this half tucking thing looks really, really silly. Can I?

Because very often just covering areas does not equate flattering. Just makes you look bigger

So I tried tucking in the front of my top. I can see what you mean by the front. More shape. But side? I feel like it accentuated the belly area.

Most clothes now are not as tailored as they used to be and are often baggy and saggy, so tucking in can bring your waist back.
Agree with PP that body shape plays a massive part- for an apple a tuck is adding volume where you don't need or likely want it. For an hourglass or petite frame, it's a way to stop the big saggy clothes wearing you and making you look big all over.
OP maybe you're just not a body shape this would suit.

AutumnColour89 · 02/10/2025 02:39

Also eye-rolling at some of the comments on this thread sneering at others looking to flatter the body they have, rather than just act as a clothes horse for quirky or fashionable clothes. I'll never understand this 'aesthetic' thing- just screams teen on TikTok to me. We're people not brands.
What happened to just wearing what you're comfortable in and what gives you confidence, rather than judging others for the reasons behind their personal style choices? Rant over.

Well, the model who is half tucked looks pretty cool.

DrowningInSyrup · 02/10/2025 03:34

When they want to. Since when do we get to police how a woman dresses.

There is no single definitive way to tuck. Peope tuck everything all the way or just the very front or front and sides or just slightly off centre

whatever suits. Young’uns do a reverse French where they tuck the back and have the front loose

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 02/10/2025 13:53

Sorry I meant the front tuck but viewed from the side doesn’t give me a good shape.

I’m not really upset, there’s no need to worry about me. I just don’t understand it.

In what way does it make someone look less fat?

It just looks very wrong and unbalanced to me.

Because it shows the waist....and as pp said, you can get into your pockets. Also, stops things getting wet when washing up/washing hands etc.

MargotMoon · 03/10/2025 14:24

It stops middle aged people (me) looking frumpy so it’s got my vote!

I always just feel abit awkward when I try any kind of tuck on a casual top.
I especially don't get that style of tucking your tee or jumper under your bra, or twisting it up around the back.
Although TBF I like to wear XL oversized t shirts that swamp me. It's probably not flattering but I'm more concerned with what my clothes feel like to me rather then how they look to other people.

I kind of agree with this, they can meals a lot of people look frumpy / dumpy and heavier than they actually are

Yep, they do that to me!
