Summer shoes to replace white trainers

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

single sole sandals that are more delicate looking?

MiniCoopers · 28/03/2025 23:06

I bought an amazing pair of Saltwater Fisherman sandals last year and I love them.

Monty27 · 28/03/2025 23:20

Birkenstocks and fisherman sandals is what I'm doing

Thoughtsonstuff · 29/03/2025 13:07

If you didn't want to wear sandals eg you were flying somewhere? Or going somewhere where you didn't want to get your toes out. Ive always loved the white trainers look with a dress or something but apparently that's too middle aged now (which I am). I just can't think of an alternative.

I did. It was my staple look. Very depressed now it's no longer acceptable.

I also wear sandals if flying. Ballet flats?

PrimalLass · 29/03/2025 13:17

Acceptable to whom? Just wear what you love.

hookeywole · 29/03/2025 13:17

If it's your style & it's practical for your lifestyle why not wear it? I wore fisherman sandals before they were a thing, I didn't wear trainers & dresses when they were a thing because that's just not my style

RosesAndHellebores · 29/03/2025 13:17

I don't own a pair of trainers.

I prefer loafers, a structured ballerina or comfortable sandals. I also like clogs and birkie styles but more comfy ones.

Yes you're right of course.

But any ideas of alternatives? That don't mean sandals? Ballet flats seem to be the only suggestion so far. Someone needs to invent something I think..

Slip on trainers with no back. Like these, and Skechers have similar but without the laces.

I use them on hot days, slip on, very comfortable and no sweaty feet either. It's just a suggestion, they are not for everyone!

Fisherman's sandals are too jelly sandal memory-like for me. Plus I just don't get toes out at work (for boring reasons).

I quite like the idea of a backless slip on shoe like that actually! Maybe not with the laces etc. But good!

I live in sandals as soon as it's warm enough so can't be much help really.

Hattysbackpack · 29/03/2025 13:27

My trainers will need to be prised off my cold, dead feet. I hate sandals of all descriptions. I don’t want my toes exposed, it’s not practical if it starts raining and I don’t find toes attractive, plus I have really cold feet. Ballet flats gave me plantar fasciitis in the 00s. So I am team trainers all the way and I don’t care if they are in fashion or not.

I class fisherman as toes in 😆

I had to look to see what they are - ugly as sin and what we used to wear 65 years ago as toddlers (by Start-Rite?)

Deck shoes?

You can't have good taste without bad 😜

Moier · 29/03/2025 15:27

Fisherman's sandals are bloody ugly things.. like shoes l had as a kid .. ( I'm 66) l wear my skecker biker trainers or Clarks cloudsteppers.
I wear what l feel comfy in..

Oh who cares if it's 'middle aged'. I can't bear this nonsense. All this fickle fashion rules are just to make us feel 'old fashioned' and buy more clothes.

I'll be wearing my white trainer type shoes (not Superga as I find them really uncomfortable) and I don't care- they are for comfort.

hookeywole · 29/03/2025 15:31

Why because you wore something as a kid means it's bad? I had some lovely shoes as a child.

SoftPlaySaturdays · 29/03/2025 15:34

I prefer colourful trainers rather than white. I work with a lot of students and this is what they tend to wear - their outfit is neutral but with red trainers for example. Gazelle type things.

squashyhat · 29/03/2025 15:45

I was late to the white trainer party and only bought some last summer. I'm not trashing a perfectly good pair of shoes because someone decides they are "too middle aged". I think the current youth fashion of track suit bottoms tucked into socks with sliders looks absolutely idiotic but I can leave them alone if they leave me alone
