would you think this were inappropriate (minus the flip flops)?

It reminds me of teatowels bought as souvenirs in Scarborough.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 07/03/2025 12:43

I'm sorry but that's hideous. I would maybe wear it on holiday in the hope I wouldn't bump into anyone I knew.😂

Havenshow · 07/03/2025 12:46

I like it, but I don’t think I’d dare wear flip flops.

memyselfi · 07/03/2025 12:46

It's absolutely beautiful , I bet you look amazing in it .
Is it in the summer ?
I'm just thinking you might be cold in a church .

TSMWEL · 07/03/2025 12:47

I think it's more suited to an evening meal in Ibiza or Marbella, it's a holiday dress not an event dress in my opinion. I don't hate it at all, in fact I keep going back to look at the video as I read pp comments and noticing different details every time.

It does look like the lobster is pinching her nipple though 😳

Zone2NorthLondon · 07/03/2025 12:48

MN has quite a staid and conservative view on what one should wear to a wedding and the advice is always get a bolero and something that looks like a frock.

sideeyes · 07/03/2025 12:49

notacooldad · 07/03/2025 12:37

What's your thoughts on it @sideeyes ?

I absolutely love it, and wonder now how many times people have been laughing at what I’ve worn to stuff. I wouldn’t have asked if these ceremonies were of close friends of mine (cos they all know and love me), but as the weddings are of more distant friends, and the christening family are very tweedy, I have hesitated. I am to be godmother if that makes any difference. I also have an issue with clothes actually fitting because of my length, and this dress looks like it would.

This is very true. This thread has also popped up in Active so there will be a lot of posters who don’t usually spend much time on Style and Beauty.

Floisme · 07/03/2025 12:51

Just to add to my previous post, I'd be more cautious about a Christening because I haven't been to one since I was 5 so I don't know what the dress codes are like.

rosemarble · 07/03/2025 12:52

How tall are you OP? The model is 5' 11".
In answer to your question - I would be happy for my guests to wear whatever they wished to my wedding, as long as if it was in a church they were respectful of that. For a Christening, I'm not so sure - the massive lobster on the chest seems a bit frivolous for a religious ceremony. But I wouldn't mind - it's not like you're showing your arse!

BlackSwan · 07/03/2025 12:53

Alemais quality is not worth £650. Not for the fabric or its construction. It will be massively reduced before long.

Onelifeonly · 07/03/2025 12:54

TheBossOfMe · 07/03/2025 10:38

It's a holiday dress to be thrown on over a bikini for lunch, IMO.

This

AprilF00L · 07/03/2025 12:54

unless it were a casual beach wedding or christening on the caribbean then YABU. It looks like loungwear/nightwear and is a shocking price.

Case in point: this isn’t AIBU but because it’s made it into Active you are getting a lot of responses as if it were.

Hayley1256 · 07/03/2025 12:56

I'd ask what time your flight was!

It depends on the group of friends you have

Zone2NorthLondon · 07/03/2025 12:57

And now we have entered into the realms of competitive underspending were people will claim that they only spend tuppence on going to wedding and the shoes, the bag and the bolero will be out of a skip

Is it not good quality? I’ve never bought the label before

How old are you?

There's something very liberating about being quite young, and being older, I honestly couldn't give a tiny rats fanny whether people laugh at me or my outfits.

The weird bit in the middle where I was desperate to "conform" and would have worn the standard very plain shift dress and MN pashmina I look back on now with a fair bit of regret. I think it's because I would have been a dick and mean girl towards anyone who stood out, I realise this was just plain jealousy now tbh and I'm not proud of it 😔

Doggymummar · 07/03/2025 12:58

I mean, it's not a nice dress, although expensive. I might pick it up in Hotel foyer type boutique in the Caribbean and wear it on holiday. But not in the UK and not at final occasions, but I am unadventurous

desperatedaysareover · 07/03/2025 13:00

I think unless you’re wearing white to a wedding or a basque beside the font you’re fine. Could style it up to be more dressy without a problem, I don’t see it as overly beachy, it’s quite individual, I like it.

friendlycat · 07/03/2025 13:01

I like it.

JazzyBazzy79 · 07/03/2025 13:01

I'm so sorry but it's horrific 😢

Sadly not. I really wanted a long green dress of theirs last year. But when I saw it in person I was disappointed. Just not great quality silk... didn't hang well...

'Tiny rats fanny' will be used in a sentence by me shortly and I agree - I dont care. While i dont want to upset people, I couldnt care less what they wear and I dont understand why anyone gets concerned about it. I like seeing how people express their individuality. I have never really cared TBH, but care much less at 48 than I did at 28.
