would you think this were inappropriate (minus the flip flops)?

Sorry it looks like a nightie to me, I would not think this appropriate.

GreenCandleWax · 07/03/2025 11:25

I wouldn't be offended as such, but would probably question your judgement and even motives. Would you be trying to distract the main players at the ceremony? I don't understand the POV that it might be OK for a christening (a solemn though joyful occasion) but not for a wedding. Its not appropriate for either.

GreenCandleWax · 07/03/2025 11:26

Meant to say - distract attention from main players.

sideeyes · 07/03/2025 11:26

I am 6’ tall and a size 10. Admittedly not as willowy or young as the model in the photo. I guess I do dress in a slightly unconventional way a lot of the time. It’s expensive, but it’s for three events this year at least…

i've been to weddings where this would fit right in.

Ihopeyouhavent · 07/03/2025 11:28

I think its beautiful.

I'll be honest i didnt even notice what anyone wore to my wedding or the boys christening.

Unless theres a specific dress code wear whatever you feel good in, but obv. nothing to revealing!

£650 🙄

pinkdelight · 07/03/2025 11:29

I don't dislike it but it's giving me funky nightie vibes more than wedding.

TaggieO · 07/03/2025 11:30

I mean, I LOVE it!

brothyrice · 07/03/2025 11:31

Alemais have some really nice things but that isn't one of them

£650 🙄

People pay a lot more for tiny little bags.

It’s like it and think it’s good for both wedding and christening.

Abracadabra12 · 07/03/2025 11:32

I love it!

Who are all these MNetters who wear silk dresses to the beach?!

Ivyiris · 07/03/2025 11:32

I think it's hideous sorry op not my taste

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 07/03/2025 11:34

It covers the shoulders so wouldn’t mind it at all (lobster is interesting haha).

What’s the eye roll for?

cardibach · 07/03/2025 11:34

TheBossOfMe · 07/03/2025 10:38

It's a holiday dress to be thrown on over a bikini for lunch, IMO.

At £650? Blimey

notacooldad · 07/03/2025 11:34

I would think that your dress sense is completely different to mine!
Whether it was suitable for the events would depend on location and country i suppose.

ediepop · 07/03/2025 11:35

I love it! It's pure silk so definitely not for the beach. If you wore it to my wedding, OP, I would be exclaiming over how gorgeous it is and asking you where you got it. The cut is a bit informal, but could be easily dressed up with the right shoes and some chunky gold jewellery perhaps. Ok yes, the vibe is a bit eccentric aunt/art teacher. Personally, I happen to absolutely love that, and I think with your height and figure, you'll look brilliant and far more interesting than if you wore some dull polyester shift dress from Coast.

Justhere65 · 07/03/2025 11:35

I wouldn’t be happy if you wore this to my wedding or child’s christening as it is beach wear and not at all formal. But it would look okay on the beach.

Two wrongs don't make a right as my nan used to say!

How formal was your christening?!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/03/2025 11:38

It's a silk dress. That's dressy enough but obviously with better shoes, maybe some plain accessories.

I thought those were dragons in the middle of it, enlarged it to find they were only fish.

... and how ill-mannered you would be to express any hint of that.

pinkdelight · 07/03/2025 11:39

it’s for three events this year at least…

I'd hope there's no overlap between the people at the three events. It's so distinctive, it could feel a bit "here comes the lobster dress again!"/Year of the Lobster Dress!
