I wouldn’t be happy if you wore this to my wedding or child’s christening as it is beach wear and not at all formal. But it would look okay on the beach.

Agree you will stick out like a sore thumb on all the photos

Movinghouseatlast · 07/03/2025 12:10

It's beautiful. Because it's great quality you coukd easily dress it up with a pair of wedges, a clutch bad and maybe a hat.

I am 6’ tall and a size 10. Admittedly not as willowy or young as the model in the photo. I guess I do dress in a slightly unconventional way a lot of the time. It’s expensive, but it’s for three events this year at least…

I see it’s silk so you might find it clings in all the wrong places. It’s very distinctive so if there’s any overlap in guest list people will probably remember you have worn it before.
Maybe you love it so much you are using the calculation of 3 events to justify the expense?
How about finding more formal outfits on vinted or even the back of your own wardrobe and then buying this just because you love it- but promise me you won’t keep it if it doesn’t flatter you

Yes fine for a christening and fine for a wedding with buttonhoke, hat/fascinator.

It really isn't nice though.

purplecorkheart · 07/03/2025 12:12

I thought it was quirky when I first saw it but think it looks very beachy when she is moving around.

treesandsun · 07/03/2025 12:12

If I invited you to a wedding or christening - it would be because I wanted your presence and wouldn't mind what you wore. I'm guessing this outfit isn't you deciding to go for an unusually bold choice when you normally wear conservative things so wouldn't be surprised by a more quirky option of clothing.

Richiewoo · 07/03/2025 12:13

I think the dress is horrible. Not inappropriate.

JRorBobby · 07/03/2025 12:13

It's a silk dress, I'm not in the habit of wearing them to the beach!

It's definitely appropriate, IMO.

But I would change the belt, and obviously no flip flops!

Weirdly, rarely, whatever, I don't think it suits the model. It looks nice in the photo, but when she starts moving in it, I had an "oh, oh no!" reaction! I went from like to dislike. I think that's down to the model though! She is not pulling it off.

llovemermaidgin · 07/03/2025 12:14

Going against the grain but I really do not like this for so many reasons.

lalaloopyhead · 07/03/2025 12:17

I think its lovely - you can tell its expensive before looking at the price tag.

I think it looks stylish and a bit different but without being too out there.

I'm not sure in which world anyone chucks a £650 silk dress over a bikini for lunch - definitely not mine!

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/03/2025 12:17

People on here are very weird, and frankly old-fashioned, about wedding attire op, hence the range of views. It’s 2025 and people wear what they like in my view, surely it’s your presence at a lovely event that should important. I love this dress and if you came to my wedding in it I’d be asking where you got it. Dressed up with, eg gold sandals, jewellery and a great bag, that would look really stunning.

I would think you’re stylish with good taste
Invitation is all about you, and what you bring as a guest

Megifer · 07/03/2025 12:20

I've worn jeans to every christening I've been to since about 2015 😂 It's fine for either, it really is only on MN in my experience that grown adults have stories of when they mean-girled about another guests outfit, or are so self important they think someones attire should be pleasing to them.

I love it tbh, its just my quirky style and would buy it but it's way too ££££ for me!!

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 07/03/2025 12:22

It is interesting to see the extent to which we have lost a basic understanding of what goes into making a garment, and how much it needs to cost for the makers at each point of the production process to be paid a living wage (which this manufacturer does).

Not only is the dress 100% silk and of a length which requires a lot of fabric, it has a very specific pattern placement which will require skilled pattern cutting and matching.

But sure. Boggle at the price if it makes you feel good and then buy something from Shein before it goes into landfill.

Edited to add that it's lovely and very suitable for your occasions, OP.

Thindog · 07/03/2025 12:22

It’s fabulous, quirky and fun. Maybe not conventional wedding or christening attire but so what? Wear what you love and be happy.❤️

Printedword · 07/03/2025 12:23

I like it, but the price is £££ and it's a bit too much for what it is

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/03/2025 12:24

OMG, it’s awful!

those who like it - whyyyyy?!

DislocatedHoohaa · 07/03/2025 12:25

Christening, yes, formal wedding, no ( too beachy and droopy ) casual wedding, think beach, barn, field type, then yes. I’d only wear it round a pool tbh, and I’m not 6ft tall and size 4 so I honestly wouldn’t wear it at all.

@Thindog

“so what?”

so you can’t just wear what you want to a wedding.

Wishboneswishes · 07/03/2025 12:28

There’s nothing inappropriate about it at all. It’s quirky and different but unconventional as you’ve said you like to dress OP. Go for it!

People can wear exactly what they want to a wedding 😃 unless there's a dress code but even then unless it's a celebrity with security it's unlikely you'd get chucked out.

Last wedding I went to I wore a neon green leopard print maxi dress with neon pink accessories and bright red hair and looked fabulous if I say so myself.

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/03/2025 12:36

I love it, like others u didn't care what people wore to my wedding. You know the bride and groom best so make a decision based on your knowledge of them.

notacooldad · 07/03/2025 12:37

What's your thoughts on it @sideeyes ?

iamnotalemon · 07/03/2025 12:40

The price too, bloody hell.

Viviennemary · 07/03/2025 12:41

It would be ok for a yoga type retreat holiday.
