would you think this were inappropriate (minus the flip flops)?

Yes.

It' s too informal and the lobster is a bit 'in your face'. It's actually an ugly design IMO for any occasion.

I don't know how companies can sell such trashy stuff and asking £650?

MeganM3 · 07/03/2025 11:42

I do not like it. Very ugly. But I don't think it's inappropriate. Fine to wear to whatever, if you like it. Some strong sunglasses with it would be good.

MeganM3 · 07/03/2025 11:42

But deffo not for three events. Two maximum. Get another outfit.

kellionette · 07/03/2025 11:45

I do like it, and when I saw the first photo I thought it would be OK for a wedding or christening with the right shoes/bag. A bit "out there," but in a good way.

But then I looked through the other photos and saw the side slits and... no. Not suitable. Taken as a whole, that's a beach cover-up.

Onlycoffee · 07/03/2025 11:45

What country? Have attended a mix of events in both UK and Australia and there is a difference in styles. Even amongst states in Australia I would say there a difference.

People are so weird about “wedding attire” on here. Nearly every thread regarding what to wear to a wedding has poster upon poster declaring the chosen garment “not formal enough”. I wonder if they’ve actually been to a wedding in the last 30 years.

Thank god it's not just me who thinks that I often wonder what kind of weddings/christening/funerals do people on here attend.
OP if you were tall enough and thin enough to look good in it then I'd probably be very envious.
It absolutely wouldn't be to everyone's taste (I wouldn’t personally choose it) but it has an edgy look to it and I'd assume the person wearing it would usually dress in that style anyway so this dress wouldn't be a shocker

GreenGherkin · 07/03/2025 11:46

It screams, “Look at me!!” which I think is inappropriate for a wedding. It’s understood that the most striking dress should be the bride’s and this is a dress that would draw a lot of attention at a wedding. I wouldn’t wear it to a Christening either, but those are generally more casual. It doesn’t feel formal enough for either occasion to me

Lighttodark · 07/03/2025 11:47

the print and colours make it suitable for a causal summer day/event

Idontgiveashitanymore · 07/03/2025 11:47

No no no!
that’s hideous 🤢

TheBewleySisters · 07/03/2025 11:47

If you are 6' tall and a size 10 - what makes you think you aren't "willowy" as you say?

But deffo not for three events. Two maximum. Get another outfit.

Why on Earth can it only be used for 2 events, not 3?
I go to plenty of events that don't have any crossover guests. It's a memorable dress so you probably wouldn't want to wheel it out repeatedly in front of the same people but it's a fabulous dress that's reasonably expensive that ought to be used.
I think you should get it and wear it as often as possible OP. It's gorgeous.

StElse · 07/03/2025 11:49

No I think it's beautiful!
I think proper fine jewellery and decent shoes would be important.

OnePerkyRedDog · 07/03/2025 11:50

It depends on the wedding. We stipulated formal on our invitations and I wouldn’t class this as formal.

NaneePolly · 07/03/2025 11:54

Maybe for a very informal do. Is it the type of style you would normally wear or will people be surprised to see you in it? . It would certainly attract attention

biggreenapple24 · 07/03/2025 11:55

Looks like beachwear to me, wouldn't wear to a wedding

Chuchoter · 07/03/2025 11:55

I love it but as an informal wear only.

Certainly not to wear at a wedding or a christening.

Kbroughton · 07/03/2025 11:57

It's gorgeous and TBH I never care what anyone wears to anything i put on including my wedding, but you know what the person is like. £650 is a bit steep for me though!

rosydreams · 07/03/2025 11:57

i can peoples point 650 is not very good value for money you can get just as flamboyant dresses for much less ,if thats your cup of tea

CautiousLurker01 · 07/03/2025 11:59

Also think this is fun - wouldn’t wear with flip flops as that would give a holiday/beach vibe, would wear with heels.

SometimesCalmPerson · 07/03/2025 11:59

I’d think you got lost on your way to the beach.

MrsMitford3 · 07/03/2025 12:01

It looks like a kaftan you'd be wearing in Ibiza.

Very "look at me" for a christening

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/03/2025 12:06

I'm just thinking of that cringey thread from a few days ago with the OP imploring posters not to infiltate S&B and post nasty, judgemental comments... She must be fair weeping into her coffee if she's seen this thread.

I've never seen this board be anything else.

Katiesaidthat · 07/03/2025 12:07

Very underdressed for a wedding and out there for a christening.

Sherararara · 07/03/2025 12:07

No. Just no.

CheeseFiend40 · 07/03/2025 12:07

If I saw someone wearing this at a wedding I’d immediately poke my DH and say “what the f*ck is she wearing?!!”
I think it’s absolutely hideous!
